Chapter 8 Apologize to My Parents

  • "Tsk, tsk, tsk ...
  • "Well, my dear nephew!
  • "Do you still think you're still running Goodwell Corporation, huh?"
  • "Exactly"
  • Lucille joined in, with a hint of sarcasm, "Come on. You're not the big boss anymore.
  • "Even your wife, Monica, has left you."
  • "Oh, by the way!
  • "I forgot to mention, Monica is getting engaged to Damian tonight.
  • "It's at the Grandline Suites Hotel. It's going to be a big, lavish party!
  • "Are you sure you don't want to take your parents to see it?
  • "You might even get to enjoy wine and dinner sorted for tonight!"
  • Edmund and his wife's comments kept getting more harsh and nasty.
  • Watching their disgusting expressions made Eric's frown deepen.
  • If Edmund wasn't his uncle, he might have been tempted to kill him. But doing that would be way too much of a shock for his already unstable mother.
  • Otherwise, Eric would've had their heads off and used them as chamber pots by now!
  • David, standing nearby, was visibly shaking with anger, his face darkened.
  • After all these years, Edmund and Lucille had made at least hundred thousands by trailing behind their family.
  • Yet instead of showing any gratitude or family loyalty, they were now insulting and humiliating them in every way possible!
  • "We owe you 15,000, right?
  • "Just give me your account number, and I'll transfer it."
  • Eric then pointed to the floor. "We're done talking about the money.
  • "Now, get down and apologize to my parents.
  • "Otherwise, don't blame me for ignoring family ties. I will make sure you pay for every way you've wronged my parents over the past five years.
  • "I'll make you regret your choices!"
  • Eric's eyes flashed with cold fury, and a murderous aura began to rise around him.
  • The temperature in the room seemed to drop suddenly, and the mocking laughter of Edmund and Lucille abruptly stopped.
  • Moments later, a burst of laughter filled the room.
  • It wasn't just Edmund—everyone in Lucille's courtyard was laughing.
  • Lucille, in particular, laughed the loudest, almost to the point of tears.
  • "Oh my!
  • "While you've been gone these five years, the company's gone, your mother has gone insane, and your father's become a waste.
  • "You and your family are barely surviving in a dump!
  • "A broke guy like you thinks you can threaten us, make us get down to apologize, and make us regret?"
  • Lucille said this with a smug attitude, then looked Eric up and down, clicking her tongue. "You're in your twenties and still talk like a kid. You think 15,000-dollar is such a big deal?
  • "I'm asking you.
  • "How are you planning to pay us back?
  • "With your sorry state?
  • "Or with your cheap clothes?
  • "Or maybe by selling a kidney?"
  • After saying this, Lucille glanced at the money bag she'd knocked over and snickered. "No wonder your parents are such deadbeats, always dragging their feet and refusing to pay.
  • "Probably worried that when you come back, you won't have the cash to get a wife, huh?"
  • "Hahaha ... "
  • As soon as Lucille said this, everyone else burst into laughter too.
  • "Honestly, though.
  • "You're nothing but a stray dog kicked out by the Duncans. Your father is half-disabled, and your mother is a madwoman.
  • "Someone must be pretty desperate to marry off their daughter to a loser like you. Hahaha ... "
  • "Exactly!"
  • "I'd never let my daughter marry someone like that!"
  • Meanwhile, Edmund and Lucille's lackeys in the courtyard were laughing so hard they were clutching their stomachs.
  • Eric took a deep breath, as if making a big decision, and his face went back to calm.
  • As he lowered his arms from his chest, his whole attitude turned suddenly fierce and determined.
  • He was set on teaching Edmund and Lucille a serious lesson!
  • Just as Eric was about to make his move, a cold, clear female voice cut through.
  • "Who says no one wants him?"
  • Who spoke so gracefully?
  • Eric turned toward the voice.
  • He saw a stunning figure approaching with graceful steps.
  • Her beauty was extraordinary, like she was a divine masterpiece. With her curvaceous and full figure, she seemed like a fairy who had stepped out of a painting.
  • The woman had stunning, expressive eyes that could totally mesmerize anyone. When she moved her dark eyes, they gave off a dazzling sparkle. Her lips were gently curved, and her smile made all the guys around her fall head over heels.
  • She was the definition of a peerless beauty, the kind who could make anyone swoon.
  • Every glance, smile, and look was both graceful and elegant.
  • It was none other than Alice!
  • Her striking and graceful presence seemed to light up the whole courtyard.
  • Everyone's eyes followed her as she moved.
  • After getting Silas' strict order to make things right with Eric, she reviewed all the information she had gathered and made preparations before showing up at his place.
  • But what Alice didn't expect was that as soon as she walked in, she saw Eric surrounded and mocked by these clowns.
  • Who is Eric?
  • Even my grandpa, Silas, the richest man in Ciderbrook, has to suck up to him!
  • How dare they!
  • Eric was taken aback. He thought that with Alice's princess temper, she would have left the moment he made his point clear.
  • He didn't expect her to be so stubborn, following him like an annoying, stuck-on plaster all the way to his own home.
  • Edmund and Lucille were just as shocked!
  • To them, Eric was nothing more than a pathetic guy who'd been cheated on, a total loser.
  • And on top of that, he was broke, flat-out poor!
  • Who would've thought that such a stunning girl would show up at their door?
  • She had a proud and confident vibe, and her presence was strong.
  • She seemed to radiate like a goddess from the heavens.
  • Walking into the courtyard, Alice gave Lucille a frosty look and said, "How much does Mr. David's family owe you?"
  • She cut straight to the chase.
  • "Twenty thousand!"
  • "Sis-in-law, are you just making things up?
  • "Your family gave us 15,000 when your sister was in the hospital two years ago!"
  • "What's this 20,000 about?"
  • David stood up in a rush.
  • "Seriously?
  • "In this day and age, who lends money for free?
  • "Do you think the bank doesn't charge interest?
  • "If they didn't, they'd be out of business!
  • "You, you ... "
  • David was so mad he couldn't even speak, just stammering.
  • "Don't get worked up. I've got this!"
  • Alice quickly helped David back into his seat, calming him down before turning to her bodyguards with a cool, composed command. "Bring the money."
  • "Yes, Miss!"
  • The bodyguard nodded and went outside, coming back with a black suitcase.
  • When he unzipped it, stacks of neatly organized, brand-new hundred-dollar bills were laid out right in front of Edmund, Lucille, and the others.
  • "My goodness ... "
  • Lucille's eyes widened as she saw the neatly arranged stacks of cash. She couldn't stop swallowing as she stared at the money.
  • She couldn't understand how Eric had such luck to get this girl to do all this for him.
  • After a long silence, Lucille swallowed and asked, "So ... this has to be more than a hundred thousand, right?"
  • "There's a total of 112,500 here."
  • Seeing Lucille's greedy eyes glued to the suitcase, Alice simply pulled out 30 bundles of cash and set them in front of her. "This is a total of 30,000."
  • "Thirty thousand?
  • "Why do you give us so much?"
  • Even though Edmund and Lucille were saying this, they wasted no time stuffing the money into their pockets.
  • But before they could get too excited, Alice's cold voice said, "The extra 10,000 is to cover your medical expenses."
