Chapter 10 Dust Lung Disease

  • "Eric, showing up empty-handed on your first visit as a leader isn't the best look.
  • "I heard your dad has lung disease, so I brought along some herbal medicines that are good for the lungs and spleen. See if there's anything useful in there," Alice said, shooting Eric a playful wink.
  • "Ms. Hilton, you really went all out this time!"
  • Ever since Alice walked through the door, David hadn't stopped smiling.
  • He was surprised by how highly Alice seemed to regard his son. This was her first visit, and she'd already put so much thought into bringing gifts.
  • With a boss who appreciated his son this much, Eric was bound to get promoted and earn a raise at Hilton Group in no time!
  • Seeing Alice effortlessly charm his dad into smiling ear to ear, Eric couldn't help but chuckle and shake his head.
  • Then, his eyes landed on the box of herbs.
  • Even without opening it, his background in holistic medicine and needle therapy told him the herbs inside were all for nourishing the lungs and clearing the mind. Coincidentally, many of those herbs were exactly what he needed at the moment.
  • Eric had originally planned to visit his parents first and then go out to buy some herbs.
  • But Alice had taken care of everything for him.
  • Eric looked over at Alice again.
  • Eric's purpose for returning this time was very simple, he just wanted to make amends to his parents and be there for them in their old ages.
  • Not only was Alice doing her best to keep his parents happy, but she'd also put in the effort to get the herbs Eric needed.
  • People have feelings too.
  • Eric thought. Alice had done so much already, if he kept dragging his feet on treating Silas, it would make him look inconsiderate.
  • "Dad, I've picked up some needle therapy skills over the past five years from an old holistic medicine doctor.
  • "Ms. Hilton has also got many useful herbs ready, let me start by giving you a treatment.
  • "Dad, the needles might sting a bit, but hang in there. It'll be over quickly."
  • Eric took out the silver needles from his pocket and helped his father lie down on the bed.
  • David had planned to say no.
  • But seeing how serious and genuine his son looked, he decided to keep his objections to himself.
  • To David, his son's efforts felt like a sincere gesture of care. But he didn't believe that his son could fix something as serious as dust lung disease—a condition that top doctors in major hospitals had given up on.
  • After years of pain, David had lost all hope for his condition.
  • But Eric was insistent, so they might as well give it a try even though it seemed unlikely to work.
  • While David was lost in thought, Eric gently took off his father's shirt, revealing his gaunt, skeletal upper body.
  • Eric felt a lump in his throat.
  • He couldn't bear to think about all the pain his dad had gone through over the past five years while he was away, or the misery caused by the scheming pair, Monica and Damian.
  • This grudge must be avenged!
  • Eric took a deep breath to steady himself and started thinking about how to treat his father's disease.
  • Dust lung disease, or pneumoconiosis, is a condition where dust builds up in the lungs from long-term exposure, causing widespread scarring in the lung tissue.
  • To fix his dad's lungs, Eric needed to stop and reverse the lung fibrosis first.
  • While he was deep in thought about the treatment, Alice watched with wide eyes, holding her breath.
  • As people say, seeing something for yourself is way better than just hearing about it.
  • Even though Silas praised Eric like he was some kind of miracle worker on the phone, Alice hadn't seen any of it for herself.
  • No matter how amazing Silas made him sound, she was still unsure about his skills.
  • But ...
  • But if Eric could cure something as tough as dust lung disease, then he'd definitely have what it takes to treat Silas' condition.
  • With that in mind, Alice couldn't help but clench her fists, her palms sweating with nervousness.
  • As Alice watched with a mix of anxiety and hope, Eric focused all his vitality energy into the silver needles.
  • Then, he carefully inserted them into key pressure points on David's center of chest, between shoulder blades, and on top of head.
  • "Hiss ... "
  • As Eric's needles went into the pressure point on his chest, David couldn't help but gasp.
  • A mix of pain and relief came out as groans.
  • "It's working!"
  • Seeing this, Alice couldn't help but stand up from her chair, her eyes locked on the scene with intense focus.
  • David's chest was dotted with six silver needles of different lengths, arranged in a complex pattern.
  • The needles were glowing with a golden light, and you could see white steam rising from their tips.
  • "Huff ... "
  • Eric let out a deep breath. He then picked up another needle, carefully positioned it, and inserted it with precision.
  • As Eric carefully inserted the last needle into the pressure point on the upper left side of David's chest, sweat started to bead on his forehead and trickled down his face.
  • Eric's gaze grew sharper and his expression more focused, exuding the demeanor of a needle therapy master.
  • Seeing this, Alice's heart raced. She pressed her hands tightly against her mouth, worried that she might somehow disturb Eric while he worked.
  • The whole needle therapy session took about an hour and a half, and Eric finally pulled out all the needles from his dad's chest.
  • "Wow!"
  • As he took out the last needle, David's dark face turned bright red.
  • Eric quickly grabbed the spittoon from under the bed.
  • "Cough, cough, cough ... "
  • David covered his chest and spat out a mouthful of blood into the spittoon.
  • The blood was really dark and murky, with some visible white particles mixed in—those were the dust particles from all those years of mining.
  • "Dad, is it still hard for you to breathe?"
  • Seeing his father coughed up the long-held, dirty blood, Eric patted his back and asked, "How's your breathing now?"
  • "Huff, huff, huff ... "
  • David took deep breaths, pushing himself with each inhale.
  • He felt like he was using every bit of strength he had.
  • Even so, it was a huge improvement from how hard it used to be to breathe.
  • Back then, just talking a bit faster or saying a lot would led to nonstop coughing. Now, his lungs felt so much better!
