Chapter 3 He Can't Speak
- Turning around, Mia noticed a delicate, tender child frowning anxiously, hiding behind her as if avoiding someone.
- Upon seeing the child, Mia's heart trembled violently. She felt an indescribable sense of familiarity, compelling her to approach. If the child Marie took away back then was still with her, he would be around the same age as this one.
- "Hey, kiddo. Why are you holding onto my mom? Let her go!"
- However, before she could say a word, her son, Caspar, scolded discontentedly, not allowing anyone else to get close to his mom except his sister.
- After being scolded, the little kid's big eyes welled up with tears. He clung to Mia's skirt even tighter.
- He appeared very upset.
- "Mom, I think he can't speak," her daughter Carol noticed.
- Mia also sensed something peculiar about this child.
- Suddenly, Caspar, who had previously been fierce, seemed somewhat guilty. Biting his lip, he whispered, "I'm sorry, I didn't know you couldn't speak. I didn't mean to be so harsh."
- The little child pursed his lips, his clear eyes filled with caution. Seeing this, Caspar could only offer his beloved Transformers toy as an apology.
- "This toy is my way of saying sorry, but you can't keep holding onto my mom all the time…"
- The little child's eyes suddenly brightened as he gazed at the toy in his hand. Surprisingly, he didn't reject it. Instead, he showed fondness for it.
- In his home, countless toys were either dismantled by him or covered in dust. But this Transformers toy seemed different to him.
- In a short time, the two children quickly formed a friendship.
- Mia patted her son's hair, pleased with his apology. She squatted down, asking gently, "Kiddo, are you lost? Where is your family? Do you know their phone number?"
- The little kid shook his head.
- This is going to be troublesome. How are we supposed to find his family in a big city like Neuss? Mia thought to herself.
- "Mom, how about we take him to a police officer?" Carol suggested.
- "Seems like that is our only option."
- At that moment, a group of uniformed men hurried over from a distance.
- Among them was an older man with almost entirely gray hair. As he caught sight of the little boy, his eyes brimmed with tears.
- "Joey, finally find you! Come back with us. Your father is worried."
- The little boy stubbornly took two steps back.
- "If you don't come back with us, your father will personally come and get you. And when you get back, you'll be grounded!"
- These words suddenly angered the previously cheerful little boy. He shoved the butler away, his face puffed up with resistance.
- The butler was at a loss for a moment. Once this little master's temper flared up, nobody could calm him down.
- Seeing this, Mia couldn't help saying, "Let me talk to him."
- "You?!"
- The butler looked at Mia suspiciously, assuming she was just another person trying to get close to his little master for their advantage, likely with ill intentions.
- Just as he was about to refuse, in the next second, Mia said a few words to the little boy. He immediately smiled and obediently walked over to the butler.
- The butler's eyes widened in disbelief. He couldn't believe what he was seeing. This scene almost shattered all his understanding of the little master's behavior over the years.
- Joey had a challenging fate. When Marie brought him in, he was on the brink of death and spent two whole months in the hospital before finally recovering.
- As he grew older, they discovered that he couldn't speak, disliked communication, and immersed himself in his own world.
- The doctors diagnosed it as autism resulting from psychological barriers, a condition difficult to treat.
- It took the Simpsons several years to establish a subtle connection with Joey. He never expected that a woman he had just met could make Joey so obedient.
- The butler couldn't help but pay attention to Mia.
- "Let's go, Caspar, Carol. We're leaving." Mia gave a nod at the butler and then turned to leave with her two kids.
- Mia waved goodbye to the little boy, "Kiddo, goodbye. We're leaving now."
- After walking a few steps, Carol instinctively turned back and noticed the little boy still standing there, expressing apparent reluctance as he watched them go.
