Chapter 6

  • The morning sun pierced through the window, casting a warm glow over Riley's face. As he slowly opened his eyes, a gentle knock echoed from his door.
  • "Mr Alexander..." A voice called out from the other side of the door.
  • "It wouldn't be wise to be late, sir." Albert's voice carried a hint of warning. "You know how Mr Richard gets..."
  • Riley groaned softly, "Yeah, yeah, Albert. I'll be out in a sec."
  • Stretching his arms and legs, he climbed out of bed, his chest feeling heavy. "Ugh, school," he yawned. "I guess this guy didn't like school either."
  • Their dislike for school was one thing Riley and Alexander shared in common. Riley was always the target for bullying, and his academic strength was not really much to brag about.
  • "It's a good thing he's in his final year. At least I'll be done with high school in a month or two," Riley muttered.
  • While he struggled with bullying, the source of Alexander's distaste for school remained a mystery to him. Those were part of the memories Riley had not seen yet.
  • "A rich kid not liking school," he thought. "Well, I guess spoilt kids really wouldn't like any stress—"
  • Riley's thoughts were interrupted by a sudden surge of images flooding his mind, accompanied by a sharp pain. He clutched his head as snippets of Alexander being bullied flickered through his thoughts.
  • "Oh, fucking come on!" he groaned. "Can't these memories just take a chill pill and come in all at once?"
  • Since waking up in Alexander's body, Riley had been receiving his memories in fragmented bursts. Sometimes these bursts are accompanied with pain and disorient him, and sometimes they come in mere flashes, like catching a quick glimpse of something.
  • Riley however was surprised by the memories he got this time. "Of all the things... Bullying. The kids who bullied this guy must've had balls of steel," he chuckled.
  • Shaking off the fading pain in his head he prepared for the day ahead.
  • As he stepped out of the house, he saw a black car waiting. His sister Sarah was already inside, her eyes glued to her phone and Albert standing by the door, holding it for him.
  • Entering the car, Riley couldn't help but notice Sarah's indifference. "Aw, she's giving me the silent treatment, cute," he mused sarcastically. "Guess she's still shocked from yesterday."
  • Riley's eyes wandered to the window, taking in his new environment. "I didn't pay much attention yesterday, this place is actually... Wow," he murmured, admiring the estate.
  • The perfectly trimmed and well tended gardens, the stunning architecture, and other luxurious details—like a fountain—seemed like a dream come true for Riley. These were all things Riley had wished for in his previous life. To him, seeing this now was more like a dream come true.
  • But then, there was a lingering sadness in his eyes. "If only..." He sighed heavily. "If only I could've achieved this and shared this view with them," his mind flashed back to his mother, and daughter.
  • He sighed heavily once again, closing his eyes.
  • Soon, they arrived at the school. As they walked through the gates, the waved at them with gentle smiles on their faces.
  • Uncertain of his destination, Riley decided to slowly follow Sarah, keeping a discreet distance. The last thing he wanted was her noticing him and beginning her wave of insults about how he wasn't fit do inherit their father's Legacy.
  • Sarah had always outshined Alexander. She was intelligent, always coming out at the top of their class, giving her a favored position in the eyes of her parents.
  • Alexander on the other hand always had average results in every field, be it sports or academics. He was an eyesore and a stain on his family's reputation, hence, why they chose to get rid of him.
  • Their plan however, laid the foundation for the rebirth of an instrument of their downfall. Riley.
  • Luckily for Riley he shared a class with his twin sister, so following her saved him the trouble of figuring it out.
  • After entering the classroom, he scanned the space, attempting to locate his seat. From the fragmented memories, Riley was able to gather that Alexander was the kind who tended to keep to himself, and his seat was at the far end of the class.
  • He made his way to the back of the room, settling into a seat by the window. Just as he got comfortable, the door open slowly, and a tall slim man with blonde hair entered, his steps echoing in the quiet space.
  • "I'm guessing that's the teacher," Riley thought as he watched the man position himself at the center of the class.
  • "Good morning class," The teacher cleared his throat, his voice lacking energy.
  • "Before we move to today's lesson, we have received news that the school's database was hacked... Again."
  • "And they believe it was an internal operation."
  • "If you are responsible, please raise your hand."
  • The classroom was immediately filled with murmurs and whispers.
  • "Let's just skip the detective game, we all know there's only one student in the entire school who can do that," a student remarked.
  • Riley's brow furrowed in surprise. "The school's database? Like where they store records and stuff? Shouldn't that be highly secure for a rich school like this?"
  • "Isn't this guy's school Riverview high?"
  • "I saw it in a magazine once in my previous life. Wasn't one of the things that stood out about the school it's high cyber security?"
  • "What high schooler would have the skills—"
  • His thoughts were interrupted as a short, bald man burst into the room, his voice booming. "Naaaaathan!"
  • A relaxed laugh came from beside Riley as a boy with short blonde hair responded, "Heyyy Director, what brings you to our lovely classroom this morning?"
  • Undeterred, the Director stormed towards Nathan, his face flushed with anger. "Don't give me that you fucking brat! I know you did this!"
  • Nathan smirked, maintaining his nonchalant demeanor. "I have no idea what you're talking about."
  • "I admit I did it the last time, but this time—
  • The Director's voice rose, echoing off the walls as he slammed his hand on Nathan's desk. "I don't care if you're a rare talent or not; this is the freaking last time—"
  • The teacher gently interrupted the Director's tirade, clearing his throat. "Uhm, sir... Please, mind your language... The children..."
  • "How can I stay calm! This brat uploaded a porn video... What if any of us accidentally played that at a presentation, or at the assembly?!"
  • Silent laughters erupted from different corners of the classroom, as each student tried their best to keep their mouths shut.
  • "Mr Director," Sarah's gentle voice caught the director's attention. "While Nathan's actions are unforgivable, I believe his punishment should come after class. Embarrassing a child doesn't really have a great effect on their self-esteem." She said, her voice carrying a sense of warmth with it.
  • Riley however, knew this warmth was just a pretense. It was just Sarah taking advantage of the situation to boost her image again.
  • The Director took a deep breath, trying to regain control. "Uhm... Yes, I understand. Impressive reminder. I expect no less from Miss Sinclair herself," he said, complimenting Sarah.
  • He straightened up, shooting a warning glance at Nathan. "See me after class, young man."
  • Riley turned his attention to Nathan, surprise written all over his face. "That boy managed to bypass their cyber security?"
  • With a final glare, the Director stormed out of the classroom, his footsteps fading down the hall.
  • The teacher stepped forward exhaling heavily before addressing the class. "Now that we've addressed that, let's return to today's lesson."
  • "Everyone, please open your textbooks to page 58..."
  • He paused, directing a stern look towards Nathan. "And please, Nathan, refrain from causing any more trouble."
