Chapter 7 The Doll Comes To Life

  • "He was falsely accused by the seven underprivileged female college students he sponsored and ended with ten years in jail?" Harold muttered to himself, then turned to Charmaine.
  • After thinking for a moment, he told her what was on his mind, "That's right, Old Mr. Mills and I were classmates. Charmaine, aren't you planning a birthday celebration for me in three days? Let's book the Laurel Hotel in Riverdon as the venue and invite the Mills Family to join us. I would like to personally thank Pierre Cook for his kindness."
  • At his age, he knew that he didn't have many days left. Once he passed away, the Lawson Family would face threats that could ruin them.
  • If Pierre was truly the heir of the Dragon Burial Ring, it would be beneficial to befriend him. Those who wanted to harm the Lawson Family would have to consider the consequences before trying anything!
  • Throughout history, whether it was the unification of various factions, the rise of a great empire, or the march of an army into a capital city, the heir of the Dragon Burial Ring was always involved in these significant events.
  • "Very well, Grandpa! I will arrange for the invitation to be sent to the Miller Family!"
  • Seeing that her grandfather had agreed to host a birthday celebration, Charmaine smiled happily as she answered Harold's request.
  • Meanwhile, shock washed over Felix's face as he listened to the conversation between Harold and Charmaine.
  • Although Harold was the Narandelle War God and had retired from the battlefield decades ago, his influence remained undiminished.
  • The fact that he was throwing a birthday celebration just to thank Pierre showed how much regard he held for Pierre!
  • "Dr. Felix, you're invited as well!"
  • Noticing Felix's reaction, Harold invited him, too.
  • "It is my honor to receive an invitation from you, Old Mr. Lawson. I will be sure to show up punctually!" Felix accepted the invitation politely.
  • Next, he prepared some medicine for internal injuries for Harold so he could take them at home. Only then did Harold leave the traditional medicine store with Charmaine.
  • Upon returning to the car, Charmaine asked in confusion, "Grandpa, that guy is merely knowledgeable in medicine but incredibly haughty. Why are you looking up to Jim and even throwing a birthday celebration, especially because of him?"
  • Before this, she was planning a spectacular birthday celebration for Harold, but he had shot down the idea, saying that he disliked extravagance.
  • Now, Harold suddenly changed his mind so that he could invite Pierre to the birthday party as the pretext.
  • "You silly girl. When will you learn to see deeper? When I was at the prime of my physical powers, I didn't even have the confidence to take down James with one strike. Do you think he is anything but ordinary?" Harold questioned Charmaine gently.
  • "So… Do you think that he is a recluse's student?" Charmaine asked doubtfully after Harold's reminder.
  • "Not as simple as that. Did you see the ring he's wearing? I saw it once when I was young, and that looks like the legendary Dragon Burial Ring!"
  • Charmaine was shocked. "What? Is he the ninth heir of the Dragon Burial Ring?"
  • Since she was a kid, Harold had always told her that his success was all due to spending time with the heir of the Dragon Burial Ring when he was young. The heir had taught Harold a set of martial arts, which led him to his current success and status.
  • The heir even refused to take Harold as his student because he deemed Harold unfit.
  • If Pierre really was the heir of the Dragon Burial Ring, then Harold's actions no longer seemed odd.
  • "We'll find out whether he is the real deal or not on the day of the party. Make the arrangements after you get back later and invite all the prestigious people in Roberson to the party. I plan to absolve and clear Pierre's name from the false accusations!
  • "Alright, let's go home!" Harold said, and the driver started the car before driving away.
  • In the meantime, Pierre returned to the Mills' just in time for dinner.
  • "Ah, my dear grandson-in-law is back. Let's get the food ready!"
  • Upon seeing Pierre coming home, Donald happily instructed for the meal to be served.
  • After he had given his order, the Mills Family prepared a grand meal to welcome Pierre, a new addition to the family.
  • Despite the disgruntlement in Wendy and her parents' hearts, they didn't dare to go against Donald because he had just awakened and had yet to fully recover. So, they merely regarded it as a celebration of his miraculous recovery.
  • During dinner, Wendy hurriedly left after receiving a call from her best friend.
  • After dinner, Pierre passed the prescription he had purchased to the house helper so that someone would prepare it for Donald.
  • Then, Winnie, the servant, led Pierre to a room. "Sir, this is your room from now on," she said, opening the door with a key and handing it to him before leaving.
  • Pierre stepped into the room curiously and was greeted by a faint, relaxing fragrance.
  • The room was about 320 square feet in size and was mainly decorated in light pink. Attached was a spacious bathroom and various branded cosmetics could be found on the dressing table. On the huge, white bed lay a doll the size of a person and the headboard was adorned with a wedding decoration.
  • This was clearly Wendy's bedroom, which Donald had decided that Pierre would be staying in from now on.
  • However, when Pierre recalled how Donald had forced him to marry Wendy, it struck him as no surprise that he would share Wendy's room.
  • As Wendy had yet to return, Pierre felt no need for formality, grabbing a towel and going into the bathroom for a relaxing, warm bath.
  • From the beginning, he didn't plan to be Wendy's husband for long and would divorce her after three months as agreed. Hence, he didn't care to keep a good image.
  • After he came out of the bathroom, he put on a pair of shorts as he'd usually do and tossed the life-sized doll onto the couch.
  • Then, he plopped onto Wendy's white bed, which had a light fragrance of a young lady.
  • It had been some time since he had such a comfortable bed to sleep on. In addition, the scent was so relaxing that he fell asleep in no time.
  • After some time, Wendy came home, at long last, in exhaustion. Opening her bedroom door, she went directly to her cozy bed without even turning on the lights. She kicked off her shoes and dived right into the bed with her stockings still on. Out of reflex, she turned over and hugged her large stuffed doll.
  • "Huh? Why is the surface so smooth? What happened to the fur of the stuffed doll? Why am I feeling a heartbeat on my doll, and why does it feel warm? Did my doll come to life?" Wendy mumbled to herself, sensing something was amiss.
  • All of a sudden, something came into her mind, and she quickly turned on the bedside lamp.
  • "Ah!" she shrieked the next second, realizing that her stuffed doll was missing.
  • Instead of her doll, she was hugging a topless man clad only in boxers!
