Chapter 3 A Forcibly Picked Melon May Not Be Sweet, but It Quenches Thirst
- As the saying went, 'Seeing is believing. '
- Donald said nothing more and simply pulled Wendy toward Pierre.
- "This is my granddaughter, Wendy. I'll let you be the judge of whether she is hideous or not."
- Pierre's eyes widened when he saw the woman standing before him.
- Wendy was in her early twenties. She had no makeup on but still looked stunningly beautiful. Her lips were as red as a rose, and she wore a small golden round earring on each ear. Despite still being in mourning attire, her figure was curvy and tall. Her skin was delicate and fair, too. She was the definition of a goddess!
- Pierre had dated beautiful women before. However, none of them could compare against Wendy, whether it was temperament, facial features, or figure.
- If his ex-girlfriend, Stella, were a third-tier level beauty, Wendy would be at the first-tier level. Even without makeup, Wendy still looked like an angel.
- Looking at her, Pierre was confused again.
- After all, with a granddaughter like Wendy and a family rising in prominence in Riverdon, many talented young men should be lining up to pursue her. Thus, it would be impossible for her not to find a husband. However, Donald wanted Wendy to marry him without any hesitation. Therefore, he sensed that something was off!
- On the other hand, Donald noticed the admiration in Pierre's eyes and saw an opportunity.
- "How about it? Does Wendy catch your eye? All you have to do is agree to my condition, and she will be your wife!" said Donald as he tried to interlock their hands together.
- "I won't marry her!"
- "I won't marry him!"
- Noticing Donald's actions, Pierre and Wendy instinctively pulled their hands back and refused in unison. Then, they were stunned, as neither of them had expected to be so in sync with each other.
- "Dad, they don't even know each other's names yet. How can you allow them to get married when they didn't even get a chance to get to know each other? Even if they were to get married, they wouldn't be happy. I won't allow this to happen!" Wendy's father, Jerry, returned to his senses and quickly voiced his opinion.
- "That's not a problem. They will have lots of time to get to know each other once they are married. Back then, your mother and I didn't know each other until we got married. We only met for the first time on our wedding night, and we've been happily married ever since. Compared to us, they are fortunate to have met each other before their wedding night. As long as he agrees to it, this matter is settled. No one is allowed to object, nor will their objection be acknowledged. As long as I'm alive, I have the final say in this family!" Donald scolded Wendy and Jerry before he began coughing uncontrollably.
- Jerry and Wendy initially wanted to resist. However, seeing that Donald had a pale complexion and looked like he was about to faint, they said nothing because they were worried about his health.
- Other family members rushed to pat Donald's back, helping him to catch his breath.
- "Old Mr. Mills, even if your granddaughter is willing to marry me, I will not marry her. Please reconsider your conditions!"
- After Donald caught his breath, Pierre expressed his stance.
- In that split second, Donald's and Wendy's faces turned grim when they heard his words.
- "What do you mean by that? Do you think I'm not good enough for you?" Wendy confronted Pierre unhappily. She felt a deep sense of discomfort when Pierre had refused her in public. It was as if she had been the one who proposed but was being rejected.
- "Wendy, watch your mouth!" Donald scolded Wendy when he saw her questioning Pierre in such a manner.
- "Grandpa, why are you taking his side? I am your grandchild, not him!" Wendy pouted unhappily after being scolded by Donald.
- However, the latter ignored her and turned his attention back to Pierre.
- "Let's make a deal. I'll change my condition slightly. If you agree to marry her for three months but still find her unsuitable as a wife, you can divorce her. How about that?" Donald compromised, only requesting that Pierre marry Wendy for three months.
- He believed Wendy's beauty and abilities would make Pierre accept her within three months. He wasn't worried about whether Wendy would fall in love with Pierre during this period.
- According to his knowledge, every successor of the Dragon Burial Ring practiced the Phoenix Dominion Art. Not only did this technique have various miraculous effects, but it also had a special allure for women. Donald possessed a golden needle inscribed with the Phoenix Dominion Art. If the two were to marry, he would give this needle to Pierre, and this technique would significantly enhance the attraction between them. Even if they wanted to divorce, Donald doubted that Wendy would agree! Furthermore, every successor of the Dragon Burial Ring had the potential for great success. Thus, the marriage of Wendy with Pierre would greatly benefit both her and the Mills Family. Hence, this was why Donald was eager to tie Wendy and Pierre together.
- "As the saying goes, a forcibly picked melon won't be sweet. Why go through all this trouble?" Pierre sighed.
- "A forcibly picked melon may not be sweet, but it quenches thirst!" Donald replied and winked at Pierre.
- His reaction shocked everyone. After all, Donald had spoken such ridiculous words in order to have Wendy marry a stranger, which was something they didn't expect him to do. They wondered if he was truly Donald or someone had taken over his body.
- The Mills' family members and servants all stared at Donald in astonishment.
- "Hah! Since you have gone to such lengths, I had no choice but to agree. However, I must make it clear. You cannot intervene if I decide to divorce your granddaughter three months later!" said Pierre after he had pondered for a moment.
- Although he felt that Wendy was no ordinary woman, he still agreed to Donald’s request to get the two gold needles from Donald. After all, he could divorce her immediately after three months!
- "Very well, it's settled then. To put your mind at ease, we can draft a written agreement, and you can write your conditions on it. Sounds nice, right? Jerry, fetch me a pen and paper! The rest of you take off what you are wearing and replace all these white silks with red lanterns. This is a celebration!"
- Seeing that Pierre had finally agreed, Donald eagerly instructed Jerry to bring a pen and paper to write the agreement on the spot.
