Chapter 12 The Unworthy Suitor

  • Pierre had just departed from the bank when he received a call from Old Mr. Mills, who requested him to come back for lunch, so Pierre could only replicate the earring in the afternoon to return to Wendy.
  • When he returned to the Mills Family, he found Wendy waiting for him at the door; she was dressed casually and she looked cute and playful.
  • "Stop there, Mr. Cook. Tell me frankly, where were you this morning?" Wendy asked as she blocked his way.
  • Pierre walked past Wendy without giving her a second look and Wendy felt aggrieved by his dismissive attitude.
  • Sally had called her earlier and claimed that she saw Pierre at the bank, where he received unique treatment from the general manager of Switz International Bank. This seemed peculiar to Wendy, as the bank was well known for their arrogance.
  • "Why should I tell you?" Pierre answered Wendy's question in a strange tone.
  • "Because we're married and I'm your wife. Isn't that a good enough reason?" Wendy refuted as she reminded him of their legal status. She felt gleeful as she was proud of her point.
  • It's normal for a wife to ask about her husband's whereabouts. What kind of excuses can you give?
  • After he gave it some thought, Pierre suggested, "We're not an actual couple. Sure, you could find out about my whereabouts, but only after we consummate our marriage tonight. How about that?"
  • "Y-you…"
  • Wendy was speechless after she heard what Pierre suggested. But she was still stubborn and refused to let Pierre through.
  • At that moment, Winnie interrupted them and informed Pierre, "Mr. Pierre, Mr. Mills would like to see you in his study."
  • Reluctantly, Wendy stepped aside as Pierre followed Winnie.
  • Pierre smirked at Wendy before he turned and left.
  • Wendy was furious when she saw that evil smirk, but she couldn't seem to do anything about it.
  • Winnie quickly brought Pierre to a simple and cozy study, where they saw Jerry looking out the window with a gloomy expression.
  • Pierre entered the study, and Winnie turned to leave and closed the door behind her.
  • "I heard that you were looking for me, my dear father-in-law," Pierre said.
  • "Pierre Cook, worked as a Doctor in the Riverdon Hospital eight years ago, earning 30 thousand dollars a month; by contributing two-thirds of your salary to help the poor; you gained fame and was a hero in everyone's eyes. However, you assaulted seven college students five years ago and was sentenced to 10 years of prison, hence your medical license was revoked, and your engagement was called off. You were released from prison early due to good behavior."
  • "Did I miss anything out?"
  • Jerry turned toward Pierre and recounted his past actions.
  • "That's all true, you did very thorough investigation. What are you trying to imply, Mr. Mills?"
  • Pierre calmly acknowledged the information without offering any explanation for his past.
  • He no longer addressed Mr. Mills as his father-in-law.
  • As the atmosphere turned cold, Pierre's attitude changed and he no longer felt the need to please them.
  • After all, their marriage was merely a facade that would soon come to an end.
  • "I am grateful to you for saving my father and you can put a price on that. However, my daughter is not a match for an evil man like you who went to prison. I don't know how you made my father comply with you, but I advise you not to have any imaginations about my daughter. You cannot bear the fury of the Mills Family!"
  • When he saw that Pierre did not deny the information he found, Jerry pushed a blank check toward him on the table.
  • Jerry warned him sternly and he was prepared to give Pierre any amount of money he wanted.
  • "I have no feelings for your daughter at all. It was your father who forced me to marry your daughter. After three months, my agreement with your father will end, and I will divorce her and leave!"
  • Pierre stood firm on his ground.
  • "If you have nothing else to say, Mr. Mills, I'll make a move."
  • Pierre turned and intended to leave as he still had to go to the jewelry store in the afternoon to make a pair of gold earrings for Wendy after he finished his meal. He didn't have time to argue about these dull issues with Jerry.
  • "Stop!"
  • "You used sorcery to control my father, making him obey you, pretending to force you to marry for three months. During these three months, you will impregnate my daughter. With a child tying you down, my daughter will not agree to divorce you. By then, you will benefit both financially and personally!"
  • "I, Jerry Mills, have more life experiences than you. Don't think I can't see through your tricks."
  • "If you know the better of it, take the money and leave quickly. Otherwise, don't blame me for being impolite to you. By then, you won't get a single penny from me!"
  • Jerry thought he had seen through Pierre's plans, so he called out to Pierre, who had already reached the door and coldly exposed his schemes.
  • "Ha!"
  • Pierre had no words after he heard Jerry's speech.
  • He inherited the assets of tens of trillions of dollars from the Dragon Burial Palace, and there was one billion dollars in his black card. The assets of the Mills Family were really insignificant to him.
  • Moreover, if he truly cherished money so much and would do anything for it, he wouldn't have donated most of his salary to charity and helped poor students.
  • However, his selfless dedication only brought barbarous betrayal, which made him see the cruelty of human relationships in this world and also made him become disenchanted with women.
  • "If I asked you to give me everything in the Mills Family, would you comply?"
  • Pierre knew that he couldn't reason with such a smug person, so he had to find another way to keep him quiet.
  • "You're wishing for death!" Jerry was enraged.
  • His eyes emitted a strong killing intent toward Pierre.
  • He had people investigate Pierre's past last night, and he received the information this morning.
  • After he looked at Pierre's background, he, like everyone else, thought that Pierre was a demon in human form.
  • This demon was released from prison and targeted the Mills Family, surely because he had his eyes on his daughter as one of Riverdon's Top Four Beauty.
  • Now, according to Pierre's words, he wasn't only targeting his daughter, Wendy, but he also wanted to conquer the entire Mills Family.
