Chapter 3 The Emerald Dragon Pendant!

  • At that moment, Hudson Miller, who had been eavesdropping behind the door, suddenly pushed it open. He rushed to Claire's side, grabbing her arm and urging anxiously, "Mom, when that broke loser Timothy signed the divorce papers with Hannah, he didn't ask for anything, except that emerald dragon pendant. I'm afraid that thing is worth more than all of this combined. We need to get it back right now!"
  • Beside him, Clement glanced nervously at Claire. "There's no way a pauper like Timothy could own something so valuable. I think he probably stole it. If the police get involved and track it down, we'll be dragged into a lawsuit!"
  • Claire reached out and smacked Clement on the head, scolding him with frustration. "Coward! These things were gifts from Timothy, what does that have to do with us? Even if the police get involved, they'll only hold him responsible. These treasures are priceless, they stay with us! We'll pin all the blame on Timothy if it comes to that. Do you understand?"
  • She then turned to Hudson. "Hudson, go find out where that worthless loser is right now! That emerald dragon pendant is definitely not an ordinary item. Even after the divorce, he's still trying to take things from the Miller family. How shameless! We have to get it back!"
  • Hudson, suddenly excited, nodded quickly and rushed out to make a call.
  • In Claire's mind, anything that entered the Miller family's possession automatically belonged to them. She had already decided that the emerald dragon pendant, whether real or fake, was now the family heirloom. The thought of Timothy taking it away made her furious, and she was determined to reclaim it.
  • "Congratulations, Mr. Clement, Madam Claire," Jonathan chimed in flatteringly. "With these treasures, the Miller family's foundation has grown even stronger. It won't be long before you secure your place among Southonville's top four families!"
  • Jonathan wasn't foolish. He could tell Claire held considerable influence in the family, and she seemed pleased with him as Hannah's future husband. Once they married, all those treasures would eventually be his.
  • "Jonathan, we really have you to thank this time. Otherwise, our family heirloom would've been stolen from us!"
  • With that, Claire stormed out, cursing under her breath. "Shameless leech! Taking and eating from us! This isn't over, you lowlife!"
  • Her words instantly caught the attention of everyone in the hall. One by one, they turned to look at Hudson and Claire, assuming Hudson had done something to upset her. Murmurs of criticism spread quickly.
  • Hudson felt completely wronged.
  • Luckily, after Claire explained the situation, the crowd understood what had happened.
  • "Timothy is really a piece of work. After living off Hannah, now he's trying to sneak away with the Miller family's heirloom? What a snake!"
  • "Exactly! I thought he was a decent guy, but this just proves how shameless he really is."
  • "I always knew Timothy had a two-faced nature. Who knows how long he's been scheming behind everyone's backs? Now that his plans have failed, he's trying to snatch something on his way out. The world really has no shortage of sc*m..."
  • The guests quickly joined in denouncing Timothy, and even Hannah's aunts and distant relatives joined the chorus of insults, nearly cursing his entire family tree.
  • "Mom, I found out where that loser is! Timothy's at Grace Kindergarten right now!" Hudson ran back, his face lit up with excitement.
  • "Let's go! We're going to block him off. We can't let him escape with our family's treasure. People like him don't deserve to live!" Claire grabbed Hudson and rushed out, determined not to let the pendant slip away.
  • Watching their figures disappear, Jonathan and Clement exchanged expectant glances.
  • "Mr. Clement, keep these treasures safe. Don't let anyone know about them," Jonathan warned kindly. "You know the saying, ‘A man's wealth is his own downfall.' Especially with Timothy. If he finds out where these things are, I'm afraid he'll try to steal them after he loses the pendant. A heartless, backstabbing monster like him could do anything."
  • Clement nodded firmly, sobering up fast. He clutched the Azure Chalice tightly in his hand, afraid someone might try to snatch it away.
  • "Don't worry. Not only will we take back that emerald dragon pendant, but I'll also expose that b*stard's true colors, ruin his reputation across all of Southonville, and leave him with nowhere to turn!"
  • Meanwhile, at the Grace Kindergarten.
  • Timothy didn't take a cab. Instead, he walked, letting his thoughts drift back over the six years of marriage with Hannah.
  • Memories of their time together replayed over and over in his mind.
  • His heart felt both heavy with emotion and strangely at ease.
  • Back then, he had given up everything, throwing himself completely into winning over the Miller family. He had believed that his devotion would bring Hannah back, that she would choose to live peacefully with him and their daughter. But in the end, this was all he got in return.
  • Sometimes, Timothy wondered if Hannah would have turned out differently had he never secretly used his connections to help her career.
  • But no matter what, the ending was already set.
  • He and the Miller family were never truly one family. Now that the divorce was final, all his focus would go to Laurel. He would make sure she never suffered again.
  • As for Hannah, from now on, she would be nothing more than a familiar stranger.
  • He could only blame himself for being blind from the start, choosing the wrong beginning had only led him to this bitter, quiet exit.
  • Beep! Beep! Beep!
  • Suddenly, the sharp sound of a car horn rang out behind him.
  • Timothy turned instinctively and saw his brother-in-law, Hudson, stepping out of a car with Claire right behind him.
  • The two rushed over, their faces dark with anger. Without a word, they thrust out their hands, demanding, "Hand over the emerald dragon pendant!"
  • Timothy let out a cold laugh. "And why should I?"
  • Claire's face twisted in rage. She jabbed a finger at Timothy's nose and shouted, "You worthless sc*m! You lived off the Miller family! Now that you're divorced, you still want to steal our family heirloom? You ungrateful b*stard! Give me the pendant right now!"
  • Her sharp eyes quickly caught sight of the pendant tucked in Timothy's pocket, and she lunged forward to snatch it.
  • "Don't you dare!" Timothy growled, shielding the pendant protectively.
  • "You filthy nobody, how dare you lay a hand on my mom? You've really lost your mind!" Hudson roared, furious at Timothy's resistance. Without hesitation, he lunged forward and grabbed Timothy's arm.
  • In the chaos of their struggle, the emerald dragon pendant slipped from Timothy's pocket.
  • The three of them watched in horror as it tumbled to the ground.
  • Crack!
