Chapter 7 Wasn't Tammy Someone Remus Disliked?

  • "Master, don't forget your stockpiling mission," the sprite's reminder annoyed Tammy.
  • "We're in the middle of being exiled! The officers won't let anyone wander off, and we're stuck in the middle of nowhere. Where am I supposed to find anything?"
  • Tammy felt helpless, but the sprite kept pushing. "Wouldn't it be great to have a place where you can grow crops and raise animals?
  • "Imagine having everything you want right at your fingertips."
  • "Enough!"
  • Tammy cut off the sprite's chatter. "Fine, I'll see what I can do."
  • She decided to look for a chance to gather supplies later.
  • The journey continued, and although Tammy didn't intentionally lag behind, everyone else was too exhausted to argue. Their legs felt heavy, and Tammy could feel blisters forming on her feet. She wished she could use her powers to make walking easier, but that wasn't possible.
  • It wasn't just her; everyone was struggling, especially Gloria, who was getting more and more frustrated. Seeing Ryan was ahead, she got an idea. She dramatically collapsed to the ground.
  • "Ouch!" Gloria cried out, hitting the dirt.
  • "It hurts! Honey, I can't walk anymore."
  • Her sobs got everyone's attention. Most figured Ryan would rush to her side and carry her, but instead, he frowned.
  • "Get up and keep walking. I'm exhausted too."
  • Ryan's legs were aching, and he wasn't in the mood to coddle his new wife.
  • Even the mistresses traveling with them knew better than to act helpless.
  • Gloria was stunned, tears still in her eyes, clearly not expecting such coldness. "Honey ... "
  • Seeing they were falling behind, Ryan quickened his pace and walked ahead.
  • "Are you coming or not?"
  • An officer cracked his whip across Gloria's back, making her yelp in pain as she scrambled to her feet.
  • "I'm coming! I'm coming!" she cried, terrified.
  • Though the officer had taken the opportunity to grope her a bit, the whip wasn't that hard.
  • But the shock of being hit was enough to scare Gloria into not slacking off again. She gritted her teeth and trudged on, not daring to complain.
  • Seeing what happened to Gloria, everyone else quickly realized how harsh the officers could be. No one dared to pretend to be weak anymore.
  • Some even tried bribing the officers with silver, buying themselves a brief break.
  • During the short rest, Tammy carried a water pouch over to Remus. Even though Daniel didn't like her, he wisely turned his head away, not making a fuss.
  • "Drink some water," Tammy said as she roughly tilted Remus' chin, her movements ungraceful.
  • Though Remus frowned slightly, he obediently opened his mouth and took a sip.
  • Being sharp, Remus immediately noticed that this water was different—sweeter than the rest. He knew if Lara had tasted it, she would have made a scene.
  • "Thank you," Remus said.
  • Although he had been forced into this marriage, at that moment, he began to view Tammy in a different light.
  • She seemed to genuinely care for him. Even while following him into exile, she still looked out for him. If he recovered, even if love wasn't possible, he would at least treat her with respect.
  • Tammy had no idea where his thoughts were heading. She tucked the water pouch away and leaned close to whisper in his ear.
  • "If you can shake off those leeches, I'll find a way to get better food for your family."
  • Leeches?
  • Was she talking about my uncles?
  • Remus glanced at his second and third uncles, who hadn't shown him the slightest concern this entire time.
  • Tammy's words hit the mark—they were like parasites, feeding off him. He should've seen it sooner.
  • Remus lowered his eyes and whispered, "I'll think about it."
  • Getting rid of them would take the right timing, but more importantly, he needed his family to see them for who they truly were.
  • Though their conversation was brief, it sent shockwaves through Heywards. Wasn't Tammy someone Remus disliked?
  • Why were they acting so close now?
  • Everyone was confused, but Tammy paid no attention. She handed the water pouch to Ivy, and this time, only she and Tammy drank.
  • Lara wanted to ask for some but felt too embarrassed after what Tammy had said earlier. Daniel also couldn't swallow his pride enough to ask.
  • Tammy wasn't about to offer them any help. She pretended not to notice their cracked, dry lips.
  • She had expected Remus to need time to think, but fate had other plans. By the time they reached the cave for the night, Remus had developed a fever.
  • "This is bad!"
  • Daniel was the first to notice something was wrong. Feeling the heat radiating from Remus' body, he urgently turned to the lead officer.
  • "Mr. Reed, my brother is burning up!"
  • "There's no doctor out here in the wilderness. Whether he survives or not is up to his own strength," Beau replied, showing little surprise.
  • He had seen this happen many times before. He suspected the king's men might still be watching from the shadows.
  • After all, the king would rather see Remus dead. They weren't far from the capital, and Beau wasn't about to risk showing sympathy.
  • His words shocked the entire group, especially Remus' immediate family, who were panicking.
  • "Remus ... "
  • Ivy gently touched her son's forehead, finding it scorching hot, like boiling water. Her heart raced with fear.
  • "Tammy, what do we do?"
  • She was lost and turned to Tammy, pleading for guidance.
  • Tammy also felt Remus' forehead. His consciousness was slipping, and he looked like he was trapped in a nightmare.
  • Thinking quickly, Tammy said, "Mom, there's no clinic nearby, but these officers are used to escorting prisoners. They're strong and quick on their feet.
  • "Just look at how lively they are right now. Maybe if we offer them some money, they could go to the nearest village and get a doctor."
  • "That's a good idea, but ... "
  • Tears welled up in Ivy's eyes. "I don't have anything valuable left. I don't even have any money."
  • When their property was confiscated, all their jewelry had been taken, leaving them with nothing.
  • "I don't have anything either," Lara said.
  • Being young and naive, she had no foresight to hide money. Daniel was the same.
  • Tammy glanced toward Lucian and Mark's family, who were watching from a distance, clearly amused by the situation. "Mom, Remus has supported them for years.
  • "Now, it's time for them to repay that kindness. We could ask to borrow some money."
  • Knowing their nature, Tammy expected them to refuse. This would be the perfect opportunity to bring up splitting the family.
  • "Alright, I'll go!"
  • Ivy gritted her teeth. For the sake of Remus, she would humble herself before them if necessary.
  • Her biggest fear was that she would lose him for good.
  • They waited for the officers to gather at the cave entrance for their own meal.
  • Ivy, still clutching her uneaten bread, approached the others, her eyes filled with tears. "Lucian, Mark ...
  • "Remus is burning up with fever. If we don't get a doctor soon, I'm afraid he won't make it. Please, could you help us?"
