Chapter 2 Only A Matter Of Time
- If this guy really is the head of a criminal organization, then I'll just skip the matchmaking and arrest him on the spot!
- Helena's eyes turned cold at the thought of that.
- Christopher flashed her a confident smile as he replied, “I'm not exaggerating in the slightest. You see, I was an orphan. My mentor took me in and began teaching me all that since I was three. It is indeed uncommon for people to be so talented, which is why tons of people come to me asking me to be their mentor. I've only recently returned to the country, though, so I'm still unsure of what I'm going to do here.”
- Helena shot him a suspicious glare before nodding as she said, “All right, the truth will come to light after we spend more time together anyway. I believe in first impressions, and since we're both sincere about this, how about we...”
- Thinking she was interested in becoming his girlfriend, Christopher suggested with a smile, “How about we just start dating immediately?”
- Helena shook her head. “Now that we've come as far as going on blind dates, we might as well skip the formalities altogether. What I meant to say was... How about we get married first and start dating after?”
- Christopher stared wide-eyed at her in surprise. “What? Are you sure about that?”
- Helena replied with a smile beautiful enough to win the hearts of an entire nation, “Of course I am! I'm not an idiot, Christopher. I know you're here because you desperately need that marriage certificate, and I'm no different. Since we both have a similar goal and have taken a liking to each other, why not get married right away? Should we end up getting along well afterward, we can remain married for the rest of our lives. Of course, we can agree to have a probationary period whereby we can get divorced if either one of us is unsatisfied with the marriage. I think the probationary period should last at least three months. What do you think?”
- Christopher could find no reason to reject a proposal from the beauty in front of him.
- Given how direct and straightforward she has been with me, I can't hesitate any further or I won't be able to call myself a man!
- Just like that, the two of them made their way to Tayhaven City Hall with all the necessary documents and left an hour later with their marriage certificates in hand.
- Christopher was still in shock and disbelief when he stared at the marriage certificate in his hand.
- Helena, on the other hand, had a pleased smile on her face as she looked at hers.
- That was when Christopher realized something was off and snapped out of his daze.
- No, this can't be right... There's no way a fine woman like her would be so pushy and aggressive about getting married to a guy she barely knows! She might have some kind of ulterior motive, so I should probably keep my distance from her... I have a very special identity and a huge amount of wealth, so I can't let her con me into handing it over!
- With that in mind, Christopher flashed her a smile as he said, “Helena, I think we're going a little too fast here! I'm not ready to embrace married life just yet, so how about we both take some time to calm down and meet up tomorrow instead?”
- He then ran off immediately while Helena stared at him with a smug grin on her face.
- I'm abandoning my house and family just so I can marry you, so there's no way I'd let you run away from me!
- Helena chuckled to herself at the thought of that and quickly chased after Christopher.
- It was already evening by the time Christopher returned to his rented apartment.
- The apartment building was really old and located behind some beauty salons. The location is perfect for Christopher because he was hiding from his mentor and all the clingy women he had gone on blind dates with.
- He had confidently believed that his mentor would never think to find him there when he chose that place.
- After opening the door, he was about to enter when a familiar voice came from behind him.
- “Is this where you live, Darling?”
- He quickly turned around upon hearing that, and his jaw dropped when he saw Helena standing there grinning from ear to ear.
- Her smile was sincere and pure, but it nearly gave Christopher a heart attack.
- “Y-Y-You...”
- While he was stammering from speechlessness, Helena made her way past him and entered his apartment.
- “Hmm... It's a nice place. Two bedrooms and a living room, perfect for the two of us! You're a lot better than I thought, Darling! Most men don't bother to keep their houses clean and tidy, but you've done a great job at it! Very impressive!” Helena commented as she explored the apartment like it was some kind of tourist attraction.
- After taking a long time to regain his composure, Christopher eyed Helena cautiously as he thought to himself, It'd probably take me over five minutes just to fully introduce myself, and yet this ordinary-looking woman managed to follow me all the way here? How did she keep herself from being seen the whole time?
- “What are you doing here, Honey? We agreed to meet up tomorrow, didn't we?” Christopher asked after calming down completely.
- “I've thought it through. Since we're married, it's only a matter of time before we move in together. Man, you have no idea how tiring it was for me to chase after you!” Helena replied with a chuckle before taking her sneakers off and slumping lazily on the couch.
- The sweat on her forehead flowed down her cheeks while her long hair fell over her shoulders casually.
- Damn, she looks really hot like this!
- After taking a brief moment to recollect himself, Christopher asked, “Helena, are you sure that you want to stay here with me? We've only just known each other, remember?”
- Helena replied casually, “So? We're already married, so our relationship is protected by the law! While it's only natural that a married couple live together, I do agree that it may be a little inappropriate in our case. How about we lay down some ground rules, then?”
- This woman really is something else! She's sophisticated, beautiful, intelligent, brave... Most importantly, she isn't afraid of me in the slightest! Heh, interesting... Very well, then. You want to play? I'll be more than happy to oblige! There's no reason for me to fear a mere woman like you!
- Thus, Christopher agreed, “All right, Helena. What rules do you have in mind?”
- Helena sat up straight and said with a faint smile, “First of all, I can tell that you're kind of strapped for cash, so I'll cover for all the expenses in this household from now on. On top of that, I'll also give you an allowance of twenty thousand each month. Secondly, we agreed to a probationary period of three months. Should we choose to stay married after that, I'll purchase a house and list you as its owner. Thirdly, as we are still unfamiliar with each other at the moment, you can make use of this time to take care of any existing relationship issues you may have. Should you find a better woman during this time, you are free to date her as well. However, you must not divorce me within these three months. Those are the only requests I have. What do you think, Darling?”
