Chapter 10 A Delightful Evening
- Christopher fled the scene.
- Marina showed up from around the corner and secretly applauded Nancy.
- “That was beautiful! I knew it. No one on Earth can handle that mouth of yours.”
- Nancy chuckled. “Aw, don't flatter me. Anyway, is he really Ms. York's husband?”
- Marina looked around before replying, “Yeah, he is. You know how things are for Ms. York. Her family was pushing her too hard, so she got married in a flash. That guy is a money-minded pervert. You should be careful around him. Don't let him take advantage of you.”
- “Got it. Oh, there's one more thing. Ms. York came back earlier and said that her mission tonight is very crucial. She asked me to tell you that you must not let that man disrupt her plan.”
- Marina responded gleefully, “Oh, don't worry about that. There's no way he'd return after the session you gave him.”
- At this moment, Christopher was sitting in a cafe in Silicone Tower and was enjoying the silence and his coffee.
- He scratched his ear and muttered to himself, “I can't believe my wife hired an expert who gets her paycheck by talking nonstop. That being said, those girls are obviously trying to get me to stay away. The fact that they worked so hard on that means there must be something off. Hmph, I'm going to get to the bottom of it all and figure out what my wife is up to!”
- That evening, when it was time to clock off, Christopher saw Ulric park his Ferrari at the side of the road.
- Ulric then hopped out of the car, all smiles, and waited nervously at the entrance of the tower.
- The look he had on his face annoyed Christopher.
- In an epic lightbulb of a moment, Christopher circled around and snuck up to the side of the Ferrari while the owner was distracted.
- Hah, lucky me. That guy is so excited that he forgot to close the windows. That makes things so much easier.
- He looked into the car and saw a rectangular box in the backseat and at the side was another delicate and beautiful gift box.
- He reached for the rectangular box and opened it to see that there were over ten blue roses in there.
- Blue roses? If I remember correctly, the flower signifies the purest of love. Oh please, a playboy like you is not even capable of loving genuinely, Christopher sneered inwardly before reaching into the box and messing with the gift.
- Then he shifted his attention to the gift box.
- It contained a purple crystal the size of an egg.
- Wow, this guy is going all out. This must've cost him a fortune.
- With a wicked grin, Christopher cracked the crystal with his bare hand.
- “Here's to a... delightful evening.”
- He then slipped away, got into a taxi, and waited patiently.
- Shortly after, Helena exited the building and Ulric rushed over excitedly to greet her.
- Once in the car, Ulric hit the gas and sped off, leaving every passerby staring in jealousy.
- Thirty minutes later, they arrived at a restaurant that served exquisite cuisine.
- It was the most famous restaurant in the city, and naturally, its prices were over the roof.
- Ulric acted like a regular customer and led Helena inside.
- Christopher scanned his surroundings, put on the mask he had prepared beforehand, and walked inside as well.
- Inside the private room, Ulric picked up the rectangular box and gushed, “I am so glad that you agreed to come out with me, Helena. This is the first of many gifts I'd like to give you. I hope you like it.”
- When Helena opened the box, however, the blue roses were no longer resting inside.
- All that was left was a dozen flower stalks that had no petals on them.
- “This is what you want to give me?” asked Helena with her brows raised.
- Ulric was taken aback.
- “What happened? It's supposed to be filled with blue roses! It means the purest love, and that is how I feel about you.”
- Helena did not know how to react. “Um, let's forget about that. Maybe the florist messed up. It's fine. I don't mind.”
- Ulric felt a little embarrassed after the ordeal, so he quickly took out the exquisite gift box.
- “Helena, this is our first date, and I refuse to let you misread the situation or think that I don't really care. I picked this gift myself, and I'm sure you'll love it.”
- Ulric was brimming with confidence when he handed Helena the box.
- Having no other choice, Helena feigned excitement once more and opened the box.
- Even though Helena was acting, she found herself unable to keep up the act any longer.
- Is this playboy messing with me, or is he actually dumb? How is this a gift?
- Ulric noticed the expression on Helena, so he quickly turned the box around.
- Inside, the purple crystal had turned into a pile of purple dust.
- Ulric froze on the spot.
- Not wanting to waste any more time, Helena took back the box and said, “This is a joke and your way of wishing me a regal life, right? I understand. Thank you. I love it.”
- Ulric regained his composure and quickly explained himself, “No, there has to be some mistake. Helena, this is not what I intend to give you!”
- Helena sighed. “Take a seat, Ulric. I have some questions for you.”
- The two gifts he had prepared had become nothing but a joke in front of the woman he was courting.
- Feeling downright ashamed, he sat back down obediently.
- “Someone must've set me up, Helena. I—”
- Helena wore a calm expression as she replied nonchalantly, “I understand, and it's the thought that counts, so it doesn't matter.”
- “Are you sure you're not angry?” asked Ulric skeptically.
- Helena smiled. “Of course. Besides, do you know why I agreed to have dinner with you tonight?”
- Ulric was stunned.
- “Isn't it because you thought things through and decided to be my girlfriend?”
- Helena couldn't help laughing. “I have a husband, and you've already met him. How could I still date you?”
- Ulric was a little lost.
- “Then why did you agree to have dinner with me? Also, is he really your husband?”
- Helena nodded. “We already have our marriage certificate and are legally married. As for the reason I agreed to have dinner with you... Well, I did so to give you some kind advice.”
- “Advice? What do you mean? Helena, I don't understand...”
- Helena flashed a mysterious smile. Her eyes shone with a strange glow as she stared directly into Ulric's eyes. “This advice may save your life!”
- A chill ran down Ulric's spine, and he instantly became nervous.
- “Helena, just say it and stop beating around the bush.”
- “All right then,” Helena said calmly. “You tried to court Luna Quaite and Carla Leeland earlier, right?”
- Ulric scrunched up his face.
- He hesitated for quite some time before he nodded his head.
- “Yes, I tried to court them, but Helena, you don't think that I am the killer, do you? I may be a little passionate when it comes to courting women, but I will never do something as crazy as murder!”
