Chapter 31

• Celeste's vision was blurring, and she had stopped panicking. Smoke filled the mausoleum she was locked inside, and even though she had backed all the way into the corner, the flames were licking at her. Her breathing was shallow, and her eyelids felt so heavy. She heard Kane screaming for her to just hold on, to hold on for him. The sound of her stepbrother beating on the door wasn't enough to keep her eyes from fluttering shut. She heard muffled voices, and despite the fact that she couldn't seem to open her eyes, panic filled her chest once again. She didn't know who grabbed her and threw her in there, and she was so afraid that they'd come back for Kane.
• "Get out of my fucking way!" Kane bellowed.
