Chapter 5 Hold On Tight

  • Sebastian had initially thought that this woman was merely putting on a show. However, to his surprise, she actually started the car, and there was a subtle shift in her gaze.
  • Annabeth had one hand on the steering wheel, her gaze focused unwaveringly on the road ahead. Her eyes held a determination and seriousness that was far from ordinary. Sebastian had seen this look before. It was the same look he'd seen in the eyes of Xobrington's most elite snipers when they were zeroing in on their targets.
  • “Hold on tight,” Annabeth said all of a sudden.
  • Sebastian furrowed his brows, but instinctively tightened his grip on the handle on the car's ceiling.
  • Just as he got a firm grip, the car made a stunning drift right around the bend and slid past smoothly.
  • Sebastian nearly lost his footing, he dared not underestimate the peculiar woman beside him anymore. He firmly grasped the handle above, his gaze unwaveringly fixed on Annabeth, as if determined to discern something from her face.
  • “You're quite the driver,” he said, feigning calmness with a casual tone.
  • Annabeth was continuously maneuvering the steering wheel with one hand as she casually mentioned, “I used to deliver tofu to homes for a few years.”
  • “Like from that show about race cars?” Sebastian responded instinctively.
  • Annabeth gave Sebastian a cold glance, but chose not to engage further, focusing solely on what was in front of her.
  • Only then did Sebastian see that Annabeth's head, back, and body were covered in spots of dried blood. And now, that blood was seeping out again.
  • The pungent smell of blood instantly filled the entire car.
  • A cold glint flickered in Sebastian's eyes. “You...”
  • Thinking he was concerned about her not being able to keep up, Annabeth said, “Don't worry; I can make it to the final lap.”
  • Sebastian furrowed his brows, but didn't say anything.
  • During the third lap of the race, out of nowhere, a silver car surged forward with a speed akin to a gust of wind and a clap of thunder. In the blink of an eye, it overtook most of the vehicles and swiftly maneuvered its way to the front.
  • “No way! That's Mr. Sebastian's car!”
  • “How is it so fast?”
  • “I must be seeing things! Was that a drift? I've never seen anything like it!”
  • Up ahead, Yannick and Xavier had also spotted the silver-white car catching up from behind through their rearview mirror.
  • They were all astounded. “Did Sebastian go through some sort of secret training? How else could his driving skills have improved so quickly?”
  • At last, the competition had reached its most thrilling moment—the final lap.
  • Still leading the pack were Yannick and Xavier's cars, with a silver-white car closely following behind them.
  • Sebastian's gaze was fixed on Annabeth, the car now reeked of blood. Her face and lips were growing paler by the minute. If he wasn't aware of their deal, if he didn't know she was a human, he might have thought a ghost was driving his car.
  • Who is she, really? Why was she on this mountain? And why was she in such a terrible state? A flurry of questions raced through Sebastian's mind, yet he didn't voice a single one. Instead, he silently observed her every move.
  • In the moment he was distracted, the car suddenly accelerated, the speedometer was pushed to its limit, the needle nearly bursting out of its dial.
  • “Hold on tight,” Annabeth said.
  • Sebastian dared not to be overly confident. He knew that this woman was capable of anything.
  • Annabeth's eyes narrowed slightly as she increased the throttle, amplifying the horsepower. Suddenly, she gave the steering wheel a sharp turn.
  • The silver car shot forward, covering several hundred meters in the blink of an eye.
  • Everyone held their breath. “What is Mr. Sebastian doing?”
  • At that moment, Yannick and the others were freaking out. “F*ck! What is Sebastian up to?”
  • This is a mountain road, so driving at such high speeds could lead to a fatal accident! It's just streaking, isn't it? Why go to such extremes?
  • The silver car was seen charging through the narrow space between Yannick and Xavier's vehicles at the front.
  • “F*ck! Sebastian, what the f*ck are you thinking?”
  • “Don't get us killed along with you if you're going to die!”
  • The two were hurling abuse as they attempted to move their cars, but it was already too late.
  • Sebastian removed the earpiece from his ear, tossing it aside. It was just too noisy for him.
  • Watching the composed young girl beside him, he actually believed her. It was unbelievable, yet, his hands faithfully clung to the handles on either side.
  • Just when everyone thought the car would crash, it suddenly flipped and miraculously slid through the gap between the two vehicles.
  • As they brushed past each other, they all saw the fleeting spark that passed between them.
  • After the silver car whisked by, it landed smoothly on the ground. Due to inertia, it shuddered and swayed a bit, making half a circle before its rear end swung around, gliding past the mountain's bend.
  • By the time everyone finally caught on and turned the corner, that car had already reached the finish line.
  • Everyone was taken aback. What's going on?
  • Right now, Yannick felt an overwhelming urge to hurl abuse as he stared at the car parked at the finish line. This is downright crazy! I genuinely thought the three of us were done for!
  • Sebastian was still a bit dazed at the moment. He even wanted to savor everything that had just occurred.
