Chapter 5 Angel In White

  • “We've won.” Annabeth was also reaching her limit in terms of energy and strength.
  • Suddenly, Sebastian heard a series of prolonged horn sounds as he shifted his gaze toward her.
  • Annabeth had passed out, her head hitting the steering wheel.
  • He immediately unbuckled his seatbelt and opened the car door.
  • The person waiting at the finish line was about to go up and offer congratulations when he saw Sebastian emerge from the passenger seat.
  • Sebastian swiftly strode to the driver's seat and carried out a woman who was almost entirely covered in blood.
  • What on earth is going on? Did Mr. Sebastian run someone over while he was racing?
  • Looking at the grubby yet strikingly delicate face nestled in his arms, Sebastian felt a pang of heartache welling up inside him for the first time.
  • “Mr. Brooks.” Sven hurriedly approached.
  • “Get in touch with Yves right away, and tell him to rush to Iridium Gardens,” Sebastian ordered in a deep voice.
  • “Okay.” Sven glanced with puzzlement at the person in Sebastian's arms, then immediately dialed Yves Richardson's number.
  • At that moment, the fleet of racing vehicles from behind had also reached the finish line.
  • Yannick and Xavier got out of the car one after another, heading straight toward Sebastian.
  • Just as they were about to question Sebastian about his skills, which were simply on another level, they noticed he was holding a girl in his arms. The girl, still bleeding, was dressed in what appeared to be a school uniform.
  • Before they could even register what was happening, Sebastian had already swept the girl into his arms and settled into the car. Sven jumped into the driver's seat and stepped on the accelerator, and the car sped off.
  • “What's going on?” Yannick frowned, pulling someone aside to ask what had happened.
  • “Mr. Quigley, that woman was in Mr. Sebastian's car... She was the one driving when the car reached the finish line,” the young man quickly blurted out, intimidated by Yannick's formidable presence.
  • Upon hearing this, Yannick and Xavier were taken aback. She was the one driving?
  • Xavier casually slipped his hands into his pockets, a sly smile playing on his lips. “Pull up the surveillance from this mountain pass. I want to know where she came from.”
  • Annabeth's consciousness hadn't fully returned when she detected the strong scent of medicine.
  • Upon realizing that she was receiving treatment, she finally found peace of mind.
  • Thank goodness that man didn't go back on his word.
  • She was acutely aware of her injuries. Even though she had been given a second chance at life, she knew that if she didn't receive immediate treatment, her body would quickly deteriorate.
  • Gradually, her consciousness began to stir, but the current state of her body prevented her from opening her eyes or making any movements.
  • Aside from her, there were two other people breathing in the room. Indeed, as long as there was breath, she could tell if there were others around. This was a skill she had honed from an early age.
  • Yves, dressed in a white lab coat, plunged his hands into a basin of water. Instantly, the water was tainted, turning into a pool of crimson from the blood on his hands.
  • After wiping his hands clean with a cloth, he asked, “Where did you find her?”
  • He turned his head to glance at Sebastian, who was lounging lazily on a chair nearby. Despite his laid-back demeanor, his eyes were fixated on the young girl sleeping peacefully on the bed.
  • “With an injury like this, she should have been dead by now. It's unbelievable that you managed to bring her back, and she's still hanging on,” Yves incredulously stated as he put his surgical tools back into his toolbox.
  • “How did this happen?” Sebastian narrowed his eyes dangerously as he looked at the young girl on the bed who was wrapped in bandages almost all over her body.
  • “Would you believe me if I said she fell off a building?” Yves found his own question amusing. His gentle and refined face showed a hint of confusion. “She has severe brain damage, multiple fractures, extensive soft tissue injuries all over the body, and a massive amount of brain bleeding. Apart from falling off a building, I really don't know how else she could have died. I just ran some tests on her, and aside from the injuries, her brain function and all her nervous systems seem to be fine...”
  • Yves shook his head, toying with the scalpel in his hand that he hadn't yet put away. “I really wish I could open up her brain and study what's truly going on in there.”
  • Before he could even finish his sentence, he was met with a chilling gaze from the man beside him.
  • He immediately pocketed the scalpel and chuckled nervously. “I was just kidding.” He gathered his belongings, ready to leave.
  • He had barely taken two steps when he remembered something. He turned back with an unusually serious and earnest expression and said, “Mr. Brooks, I am a special-grade military doctor.” He emphasized the words “special grade.” “I'd appreciate it if you showed some respect for this angel in white!”
  • Sebastian gave Yves a once-over, his lips curling into a smirk. “Angel in white?”
  • Yves found these three words to be quite useful.
  • “Get lost!” Sebastian uttered in disgust.
  • “All right.” Yves looked visibly disheartened, letting out a deep sigh.
  • He finally understood the existence of disposable characters in novels—doctors summoned at a moment's notice. If they cured, they received no reward; if they failed, they became cannon fodder.
  • He felt like that very character.
