- The car ride was excruciatingly silent, the kind of silence that weighs heavily and fills every corner with a suffocating tension. I sat in the back seat while my parents were in the front, their argument simmering just below the surface. I stared out the window, the passing scenery a blur, wishing I could escape the confined space and the unspoken hostility that hung between us.
- My car had refused to start this morning, and though I’d wanted to book a ride, my mother insisted I join them since we were all going to the event center. Now, I am regretting it. My father was driving painfully slow, adding to my frustration.
