• "I want a black wedding dress," I declared to the designer, firm in my decision. The room fell into a brief silence, and both Lake and Scarlett wore expressions of surprise.
• "You're kidding, right?" Scarlett questioned in disbelief.
• "No," I replied with a seriousness that echoed the frustration lingering from their conversation. It seemed like a game to them, with Lake playing the part of a loving partner, and Scarlett pretending to be my friend.
