Chapter 5

  • I quickly walked away and my chest churned with pain, this pain was no ordinary pain It was pain from something I couldn't tell. Maybe it was called love.
  • I did not go back to the movie hall again, I went out straight out and ordered a ride back home.
  • While inside the Uber, I tried to hold back the tears from coming out of my eyes. I blinked over a million times, I wished the speed of the vehicle was like the speed of light, and in the blink of an eye, I would be home.
  • But no!! The ride took an eternity.
  • Finally, I got home after a long ride. I got into the house to see my mom preparing my favorite meal, sushi rolls and soy sauce.
  • The aroma of the food filled everywhere, almost blocking my nostrils.
  • "Hey, Becky you home?" My mom asked when she raised her head to see me open the door.
  • I replied, "Yes ma'am". My voice could be barely heard.
  • "How'd your day go?" She continued to spark up a conversation but my soul was too troubled and angry to speak.
  • I was angry, anger is an understatement. I was even.
  • More like, I was angry at myself and not my best friend who betrayed me and my useless boyfriend Xavier.
  • " My day went well, I guess"
  • " How did yours go?" I managed to ask and stood with her for a while before going to my room.
  • "It went pretty well, you know? After work today I went to Jamila's place. And right now I'm tired."
  • "Sorry Mom" I replied walking away.
  • ***
  • Weeks had passed by since my mom started dating the Irish man named Aidan.
  • My mom called me one morning to inform me about Aidan's arrival by noon for dinner and that did not trouble me, what troubled me was how happy she was while saying it.
  • As I waited to meet the man who made my mother's heart shiver.
  • Soon, the doorbell rang, giving a sign of his arrival. I took a deep breath and opened the door, trying to hide my anger to see him with a forced smile which I extinguished immediately.
  • Standing before me was a tall, handsome man with striking green eyes and a warm smile. His aura oozed confidence and something else I did not like.
  • "Hello, Becky," Aidan greeted me with a smile, extending his hand for a handshake.
  • "It's wonderful to finally meet you." He said and brought out his hand for a handshake.
  • I shook his hand, offering a smile in return. "Nice to meet you too, Aidan."
  • He stepped inside, carrying a bouquet of flowers.
  • "These are for you," he said, handing me the colorful arrangement of flowers.
  • "A small token to show my appreciation for welcoming me into your home." He said to me but I don't think he should be giving me flowers for any reason.
  • I'd burn them afterward.
  • Well, I let go of the thought and I accepted the flowers saying " Thank you"
  • As we made our way to the living room, I observed how Aidan interacted with my mom.
  • They shared gentle touches, exchanged glances filled with affection, and laughed together as if they were the only two people in the world.
  • Throughout the evening, Aidan made an effort to engage me in conversation.
  • He asked about my interests, and my dreams, and listened attentively to my responses.
  • He seemed curious about getting to know me and maybe a positive impression from me.
  • Aidan also spoke about his own life, recounting tales of his Irish upbringing and his love for adventure. He painted vivid pictures with his words, allowing me to escape into his stories and momentarily forget the grief that had consumed me for the whole.
  • As the night drew to a close, Aidan turned to me with a solemn kind of sad facial expression which I don't like.
  • "Becky, I want you to know that your happiness and well-being are important to me.
  • I understand that losing your father was a tremendous loss, and I am here to support you and your mom in any way I can." He said while grabbing my mother's hands tightly on the table and not mine.
  • His words touched me deeply and resonated with the pain, longing, and anger that I had been carrying since my dad's passing.
  • "Shut the fuck up you bloody asshole. You can't replace my dad" I became mad immediately and ran to my room.
  • Mo...mmm chased me as I slammed the door behind me, I knew she was coming to talk to me about it and about me being rude too.
  • "I'm sorry Aidan, you know she is still a child." I heard her apologize to her new motherfucking lover.
  • I am not a child... I know I might have been rude but I do not give a damn about it. "Becky does not give a damn". BDNGAD is my acronym.
  • Becky!!!!" My mom yelled from the living room.
  • "Becky!!!" She called me again but I did not answer her. I quickly locked the door and lay down on my bed.
  • Hot tears rolled down my eyes. I could not still believe that my mom was dating. It would be funny to me if they broke up later but I miss my dad. I could still hear her calling my name.
  • Footsteps came closer to my door and I knew it was my mom's coming. The person started knocking at first slowly, I thought it was my mom who was knocking but the voice that called me was a good piercing masculine calm voice that could soothe some part of my soul.
  • " Hey, Becky," He said after knocking but I did not reply thinking he would go away.
  • " Becky?" He still began again.
  • " Hey look nigga, Sir, I don't care who who are and who gave you the right to come up to my room door. You are breaking and intruding in my space and privacy. You are also messing with my mental health".
