Chapter 4 Lack of Self-Love

  • As Zachary realized what was happening, Blair also clearly noticed the situation.
  • She raised her hand to slap him.
  • Zachary caught her arm mid-swing and gave a light push, sending her falling back onto the bed.
  • Her collar was pulled open, revealing the red marks on her white skin. It was like a bucket of ice water poured over Zachary's head.
  • Damn it, how dare this woman do such a thing before the wedding, so devoid of self-love. How filthy.
  • "Pretending to be pure on the outside, when in reality, you're just shameless."
  • The thought of this woman being in another man's bed the previous night disgusted Zachary.
  • "Crazy woman." He looked at her with disdain and turned toward the bathroom.
  • "Clean up the mess on the floor before I'm done. If not, I won't hesitate to return you to the Piersons." His voice was icy cold.
  • Blair's movements halted abruptly.
  • She didn't want to return to the Piersons. A 100 thousand was better than nothing. She could work hard and earn more money herself.
  • After the confrontation, the two of them spent the night in uneasy peace.
  • When Blair woke up, Zachary was already gone.
  • On the nightstand was the signed agreement, with the amount changed to one million.
  • Her mood lifted. Zachary doesn't seem so bad at all.
  • Downstairs, Miss Cox had already prepared breakfast.
  • Susan took Blair's hand. "How was your sleep last night?"
  • Blair wondered if it was just her imagination, but she couldn't shake the feeling that Susan's gaze held a hint of ambiguity.
  • Her cheeks flushed slightly, remembering her interaction with Zachary the previous night. "I slept well, Grandma."
  • "That's good! I knew that you newlyweds must be getting along splendidly. Zachary is in the study. Bring him a cup of coffee."
  • Susan winked at her, clearly trying to encourage her.
  • Blair couldn't refuse her kind intentions, so she reluctantly took the coffee.
  • If she could, she would prefer to distance herself from Zachary altogether
  • He was too cold, exuding a dangerous aura. Being near him reminded her of the assault on the plane, making her very uncomfortable.
  • In the study, Zachary was on the phone with Jacob.
  • "You useless thing. How many days has it been? You've still got no news about the woman from the plane?"
  • Jacob was speechless.
  • Just as Blair was about to knock, she frowned. Plane?
  • He pushed the door open, curiosity overriding her. "Zachary, I heard you mentioned something about a plane. What were you talking about?"
  • "It's none of your business. Who let you in?" His face was full of coldness and displeasure.
  • She just realized she had been too hasty and had forgotten to knock on the door.
  • She quickly explained, "Grandma asked me to bring you coffee."
  • "Put it down and get out." His tone was frigid, not even sparing her a glance.
  • Blair didn't want to push her luck either, so she set down the coffee and left the study.
  • However, her mind was racing with the word 'plane'. Is it a coincidence, or did I mishear?
  • A ringing phone interrupted her thoughts.
  • "Blair, Dad found out I helped you escape. He wants me to bring your husband home for dinner. Or else, he'll ground me and not let me go to school."
  • Tammy was on the verge of tears. "I have a competition the day after tomorrow that I can't miss. Please help me, Blair."
  • She knew that Tammy wouldn’t call unless it was serious. It seemed Isaac valued profit over everything, even his daughter.
  • Blair couldn't simply ignore Tammy. Tammy was the only person among the Piersons who genuinely cared for her, and she was being punished because of Blair. She had no choice but to return to the Piersons.
  • Blair glanced at the study. Despite her reluctance, she steeled herself and knocked on the door again.
  • "What is it?"
