Chapter 5 No Buts
- TURSTIN'S (POV)
- “Has he gone?”
- “Yes Alpha, Turstin, Alan took him home.”
- I took a quick glance at Jerry because of what he said.
- “You mean he let Alan take him home?”
- “Exactly, Alpha. Seems your mate can't tell the difference between the four of you.”
- I wasn't supposed to feel annoyed by this, but I just couldn't help myself.
- I was mad at him for crossing the road. What a way to find my mate. Just when I had found my mate, he turned out to be a man, and not just that, my other brothers are also mated to him as well. This has never been heard of. Not in my pack, not in the packs beyond.
- “Do you not think Alan will take care of him?”
- “Far from that, Alan is in love and would do anything for him. What I'm worried about is how this naive mate of ours couldn't even tell us apart!” I said with so much anger.
- “Oh, now I understand your pain. I'm sure I would be mad as well. But I think this is for the better, if you ask me.”
- “Oh, why do you say so?”
- “Actually, to be honest, this is actually the first time I've seen you so concerned about a person,” Jerry said with a laugh.
- “Concerned about a person? I'm not concerned about him.”
- “Oh, maybe I would have believed you, owing to how stern your face looks, but you can't deceive me. I know you care about him. If you didn't, you wouldn't have sent Thale, Cole and Alan, all to his side.”
- I scoffed the minute he said the words.
- “Perhaps you're forgetting the fact that they are also his mates. I can't keep them away from him.”
- “Well, that's plausible, but I can tell that you care about Gael, Alpha. Don't deny it.”
- I didn't say a word to Jerry, it was useless. Aside from being the healer of my pack, Jerry is also my childhood friend. We grew up together, so there is no doubt as to why he could actually tell so much about me.
- “Jerry, I think I have to take my leave, since Gael is out of the hospital.”
- “Hmm, okay, I have some questions for you, though.”
- I paused and turned back around.
- “Go on,” I said.
- “I don't know if it's just my misunderstanding, but why does it seem, Gael doesn't know a thing about us?”
- “About us? What do you mean?”
- “Well, it was because I addressed him as the human he was, but he seemed to be confused. He asked me why I called him a human when I'm also a human. When he said that, I believed it was because he had no idea who we are, and I'm not certain that he knows about our existence.”
- “I think you're right about that.”
- “Isn't that going to be a problem? I mean, he's your mate, and there's no way you'll let him out of your sight, knowing this fact. But I think it might be a thing of shock to him if he ever was to find out about whom we truly are.”
- I gritted my teeth, anxiously. Jerry was right, and I've been thinking about this ever since the first day. It's just complicated for me. I still don't know about my sexuality in terms of being with a man. I'm used to being with a woman, and I have no idea what it means to be with a man.
- “Jerry, this is a little too complex to talk about now. Trust me, I'll find a way out of this.”
- “I trust me, Alpha. This has never happened in our pack before, but I believe everyone will come to understand and also realize that the ways of the moon goddess cannot be questioned. I believe she has a reason for giving Gael to you as a mate, though he's human to begin with.”
- “Thank you, Jerry, you've always been a good friend to me. I'll never forget your kindness.”
- *********
- Gael POV
- While in his car, I could hardly breathe. Not because there was no fresh air, but because I was actually nervous about the whole thing. I never expected that he'd actually want to take me home.
- At first, I tried dissuading him by telling him I had a roommate, which I truly had, but, Turstin wouldn't buy that. He rather moved the motion of taking me to my place personally, so he could get to meet who I stayed with and tell him to take hold of care of me.”
- “Uhm, Mr. Turstin, I think it'd be better if you stopped here. I mean, you can't possibly come into my home, knowing you're a celebrity.
- You want to avoid being on the news the next day, do you?”
- “Hmm, you're a journalist, right? I think it'd be better if you actually carried on my news to the public,” Turstin stated with a grin.
- This is strange, the Turstin I knew wasn't someone who would lie to me.
- Just what is his real identity?
- Knowing I couldn't stop him from taking me home, we finally stopped in front of my apartment.
- He looked at the building with so much interest, which only made me feel awkward.
- “So, this is where you live?”
- “Well, yea. Why? Does it look too humble in your eyes?”
- “No way, I don't mean that. Actually, it looks like a cool neighborhood,” Turstin stated.
- He was right about that. The neighborhood was actually peaceful and safe. One of the reasons why I opted to live here.
- “Uhm, Thank you so much, Mr. Turstin, I guess I'll have to leave now.” Suddenly, he cleared his throat.
- “Aren't you going to invite me in?”
- My heart skipped. What is this? Why does he want to come to my house?
- “Mr Turstin, honestly, I'm not prepared to entertain a visitor yet, so-”
- “You don't have to push me away because you probably don't want me in your home.” He interrupted.
- “That's not true, I-”
- “Hey, I was only kidding.”
- “Huh?” He suddenly chuckled, revealing a perfect set of pearly white teeth.
- I just couldn't help it. I blinked while staring at his smiling face. How can a man be this handsome?
- “Why are you staring at me, pretty boy? Would you like to give me a kiss?”
- Goodness? Since when did he become so naughty? I quickly turned away from him, so he wouldn't see just how red my face had become.
- “Anyway, I have something for you,” Turstin says, stretching an invitation card in my direction.
- “What is this?” I asked curiously, as I took the card from him.
- “I'm inviting you to my party. All the details are in there, so no more questions.
- “But-”
- “No buts,” he interrupted.
- “This is me giving you a chance to get an interview with me. “
