• There is no moon tonight. The rain is like a haze over the earth.
• As Kral carried me out of the ballroom, I saw the crowd's surprised eyes. The faces of my father and Bernice blurred in my vision. I lay in Kral's arms. His strong arms wrapped around me, and the smell of liquor around me made me hold my breath a little to keep my head from spinning. I could see his broad chin and high nose bridge. His golden eyes were not looking at me. Instead, he held me tightly with his hands, and I realized that I was shivering slightly in his arms.
