Chapter 6 Six

  • \“I’m sorry, boss. I didn’t know you were my employer here,” I apologized as I applied an ice pack, almost bowing my head, unable to see what I was doing due to embarrassment.
  • “Weren’t you informed? My god, what’s inside your head?” His words stung a bit, but I just ignored them. It was my fault anyway, which is why he was angry now, with a big bruise on his face.
  • “I’m really sorry, I really didn’t know, no one told me,” I didn’t know how many times I had apologized.
  • “Whatever, what’s your name?” I breathed a sigh of relief at the change of topic, hoping he was done talking now.
  • “Samantha Zyle Feliciano, just Samantha for short,” I answered, taking the nearly empty ice pack from him. I got another one from the ice bucket and handed it to him. I sat on the sofa, and he sat on the chair opposite me.
  • His gaze softened a bit, no longer as harsh as before. “I’m Kalix Alcantra. I bet you knew about me?” I furrowed my brow, looking at him.
  • “Uh, no, sorry. I’m from the province, I don’t really know many people here in the city, sorry,”
  • He loosened his tie and leaned back in his seat, the lighting in the room dim, but the glass door was open, letting in the cool breeze and moonlight.
  • He seemed to come from the office, I could see the exhaustion and irritation in his eyes, maybe he just had a lot of work today, it was obvious, because he was rich.
  • I saw him roll his eyes and sigh, “What else don’t you know, huh? I certainly instructed the agency that—”
  • I woke up early the next day, it was just Tuesday, because I had cooked a lot yesterday. I took a small portion and put it in the microwave, grabbed a hotdog and an egg, then crushed the leftover rice to make fried rice.
  • I looked at the wall clock beside the glass door, it was already five seventeen in the morning. I didn’t know what time he woke up, but it’s better to be early than to be woken up by shouting. I couldn’t afford to lose my job so soon, I had just started.
  • I had been cooking for about thirty minutes when I heard the door open, so I quickly looked up. I saw my boss in his basketball shorts and topless, with airpods in his ears and a towel around his neck.
  • “Good morning, Boss! Have you eaten?” I greeted him, he seemed to have just finished exercising, his hair and body were drenched in sweat. “I’ve cooked,”
  • He slightly recoiled and looked at me, just as I finished scooping the fried rice. So, I put it on the table.
  • “Coffee,” I heard him say now, I just noticed that his voice was deep, which suited his tall and handsome body—wait, what am I thinking? That’s inappropriate, Samantha.
  • I obeyed and immediately made him coffee. I tried to be familiar with things in his house, so I wouldn’t need to ask, in case he might retort with, ‘Aren’t you the maid? Why are you asking me?’ line.
  • “Did you cook this?” I looked at him and pointed to the adobo in a nice plate.
  • “Ah, yes Boss, is it not good?” I asked hesitantly, because maybe he didn’t like the taste, and I would change it.
  • “It just tastes weird, what is this called?” he furrowed his brow and tasted the sauce again.
  • “Adobo, Boss,” he nodded and ate. When he finished his food, he stood up.
  • “Make sure to clean the house, and don’t go anywhere, don’t you dare enter my room, it’s locked anyway,” I nodded and continued what I was doing.
  • I didn’t have much to clean because there didn’t seem to be any mess. I was just wondering, he’s so rich, why does he live in a condo instead of a mansion? He can afford it.
  • I heard my phone ring, so I ran to my room and answered it immediately, “Hello?”
  • “Hey, idiot, how’s it going there?” I furrowed my brow and looked at the small screen of my phone to see who was calling, but it was an unregistered number.
  • “Who’s this?” I asked.
  • “Stupid, this is Charlotte, you just started working in the city, and you don’t even remember me,” she said, followed by laughter.
  • “Ah, sorry, your number isn’t saved,”
  • “This is my new number, save it. If you have any problems with your boss, and you feel like he’s going to kill you, call me, okay!”
  • I didn’t get a chance to respond as she hung up. I started cleaning my room, then moved to the workout room, and passed by Sir Kalix’s room, and the last one I went to was the library.
  • I was excited to enter, I didn’t finish my studies because I needed to support my family, as my parents lost their jobs, and they both don’t want to work anymore, saying that I can support them now.
  • There were many books here, mostly fiction, romance, and business-related ones. It seemed to be my boss’s leisure room, aside from his workout room. I looked at some of them, wondering if I could borrow a book, as I didn’t have much to do after I finished my tasks at his house.
  • I was about to finish cleaning when I heard a series of knocks. I quickly took off my gloves and ran to the front door. When I opened it, I saw a young woman, I almost gave her a blanket because her red dress was too short, but I didn’t, as I noticed her sky-high stilettos.
  • She looked at me and raised an eyebrow, “Who are you, bitch? Where’s Kal, baby?”
  • Kal? Was she referring to Sir Kalix? “Ah, he’s not here, he’s at work, he went to work this morning, who are you?”
  • “What?! And how dare you ask who I am? My god, and who are you, huh? Do I need to repeat myself? Really?”
  • “Ah, sorry, I’m a new maid here,” I apologized, feeling a bit annoyed by her presence.
  • “Get out,” she suddenly said, so I looked at her, and she sneered, “What, do you think I’m stupid enough to be fooled? I know you’re not a maid here, Kalix never hired a maid, are you his woman? Get out of here!”
  • My eyes widened, “Huh? No, I’m really a maid here, I’m from the province, I’ve only been here for a few days,” I tried to explain my side, but it seemed like she wasn’t listening and just continued to press buttons on her phone.
  • Damn, I can’t leave, where will I go? I don’t have money, I don’t know how to go home.
  • I was about to collapse when she suddenly slammed the door of my room, “I’ll drag you out, or will you leave on your own?”
  • I quickly put my cellphone in my pocket, grabbed my jacket, and left my room, she looked very angry, and I felt like she might slap me at any moment, “Ma’am, wait, can we talk about this?”
  • “No, there is nothing to talk about, I won’t let Kalix fool me again! Once is enough! Get out, you slut!”
  • I couldn’t do anything but comply as she forcibly pushed me from the front of my room, all the way out of the condo, and then slammed the door shut. I couldn’t help but cry, where would I go? I had no money, I didn’t know how to go home.
  • Fuck, what kind of fucking bullshit life is this?
