Chapter 5 Flipping the Dining Table in Anger!
- "Who do you think you are!" Ethan yelled, trying to shake off Mike's grip, but it was like trying to move a brick wall.
- In Mike's eyes, Ethan saw that look as if Mike owned the whole world.
- That realisation sent a chill down his spine, making him aware that this guy was no ordinary man.
- "I'm Luna's husband. Your son's been bullying and harassing her, even pushing her to the edge of jumping off a building. What's the dirt he's got on her? Spit it out, or you'll end up like him!"
- Mike demanded, his tone fierce.
- Luna's heart pounded, worried sick about what dirt Mike might uncover.
- How could I face him if he found out?
- She was filled with worry, fear, and dread ...
- Ethan confessed nervously, "My son's got some tax evasion stuff against your wife. That's why she's been so scared of him."
- He's too chicken to tell the truth, so he just made up some crap.
- I have this gut feeling that this guy might be the Nation's Protector himself. If I blabbered it out, my whole family could be toast!
- Phew!
- Luna let out a sigh of relief.
- Mike loosened his grip on Ethan.
- Hannah scoffed, "Thought it'd be something juicy, turns out it's just meh. Not interesting at all."
- Tony snapped, "Beat it! If you even think about spilling this, I'll make sure you regret it!"
- Luna's Flighton Trading was Grandma's company on paper, and Luna was just holding the CEO title. Whatever she made, Tony's family gets a slice. So they wouldn't let Ethan expose it.
- If they get investigated, they could be slapped with hefty fines.
- "Yeah, that's right!"
- Ethan stuttered nervously before leaving.
- "Honey, let's go home. I'll cook you something delicious," said Mike.
- Luna nodded and left with Mike.
- Before leaving, Mike couldn't resist saying: "Anyone who dares to touch that engagement gift will have to face the consequences. Don't blame me if they end up losing everything."
- Tony spat, "What a jerk!"
- Then, he turned to Hannah with a fake smile. "You know I've always fancied the first daughter of the Everglory Group, but she thinks I'm too broke. Can you throw in ten million from the engagement gifts for a Lamborghini and a few gold bars and cash to sweeten the pot for her family?"
- "Um ... "
- Hannah felt a bit uneasy about Tony's hefty request, and her smile froze on her face.
- Seeing Hannah's reluctance, Gwen chuckled, "Hannah, the engagement gifts given to you by Nation's Protector is indeed impressive, but it belongs to your father and me. It's just a small sacrifice for your brother's future."
- "Mom, this one gold bar alone weighs at least five kilograms, worth around 405 thousand dollars. Ten gold bars add up to over three million dollars, plus a few hundreds of thousands in cash. We have less around 4.5 million," Hannah said, trying to bargain.
- Grandma beamed and said, "Listen, the chairman of Everglory Group, Mr. Peterson, he's worth over 300 million dollars. He won't care about your pocket change. What he's looking for is status.
- "Now that Nation's Protector wants to marry you, Tony becomes his big brother-in-law. With that, Mr. Peterson would practically have to offer his daughter to Tony.
- "But we still have to save our face. The more we give, the more we'll get back. So, here's the plan: we'll fork out 18 gold bars and 1.33 million in cash. Tomorrow morning, we're heading over to the Petersons' mansion for the engagement."
- Tony grinned. "You've got it all figured out, Grandma. We'll seal the deal, then bring the gift list to Mr. Peterson. Who knows, he might just start kissing up to me then."
- "Exactly!"
- Tony's parents were over the moon, snapping photos with their phones.
- On a whim, Lana took out her phone too, capturing shots of the engagement gifts, then asked Gwen for the gift list to photograph.
- Gwen asked, "Why are you taking pictures of this?"
- Lana awkwardly chuckled. "I just can't stand seeing Luna marrying that useless guy, Mike. But now that Hannah is making it big, about to become the Nation's Protector's wife, Luna will be the War God's sister-in-law. My son, Frank, will be the War God's brother-in-law. I've got to spread the word. There'll be loads of rich second-gen guys wanting to marry Luna and plenty of heiresses wanting to marry Frank."
- "Oh, come on." Gwen chuckled. "Your lot got no backbone, yet you're aiming to hitch onto Hannah's success and fly high? Dream on! Did I give the nod for that?"
- Lana and Gwen didn't see eye to eye, always jockeying for control over the Winters's wealth. Their rivalry had strained relations between the oldest son's family and the second son's family. Despite being a big family, they were like sworn enemies. Now that the family of the eldest son was in power, they wouldn't have any intention of propping up the second son's family.
- "Could you ask your eldest daughter-in-law to cut me some slack?" Lana begged Rose for help.
- Rose shot her a glare. "Who gave you the right to constantly undercut your eldest sister-in-law, to use Luna's achievements to put down Tony and Hannah, making your eldest sister-in-law look bad? Now you see how formidable she is, huh?
- "Success isn't just about grades, it's about skills. Hannah's got what it takes, even stronger than Luna. If you want a lift from your sister-in-law's influence to soar, beg her, not me. You dug your own grave by rubbing her the wrong way."
- Lana's face turned sour.
- Anton pleaded to Gwen, "Please help our family. I'm begging you, please?"
- "Buzz off!" Gwen shot back. "Your family's troubles ain't mine. I won't lift a finger to help. Forget it!"
- At this, Tony burst into laughter. "Uncle Anton, Aunt Lana, grab ten million in cash and bring it to my car's trunk. Tomorrow morning, come help haul the gold for the engagement. If you behave, maybe my mom will consider helping you."
- Lana and Anton clenched their teeth, ready to go all out for their kids.
- They helped Tony load up the cash into the trunk. When it was filled to the brim, Tony grinned. "Time to get that Lambo! Uncle Anton, Aunt Lana, don't forget to swing by tomorrow to help with the gold."
- With that, he revved up his BMW and sped off.
- Lana and Anton looked on with envy, feeling like their eyes could bleed …
- …
- After over an hour of bustling around, Mike had prepared a table full of delicious meals for dinner.
- As it was getting late and his father and mother-in-law hadn't returned yet, and seeing his wife looking thinner, he was worried she might go hungry. So, he served her a bowl of rice and urged her to eat first.
- Missing the taste of Mike's cooking, Luna sat down and started eating.
- "How's the cola chicken wings? Do you like them?" Mike asked with a smile from the side.
- Luna nodded, her mouth full of grease.
- "Here, have a piece of pork, try some chicken, and some sweet and sour ribs, eat some vegetables … "
- Mike kept serving Luna this and that, even peeling shrimp and crab meat for her.
- Luna felt happy and relaxed.
- She felt that this time, Mike seemed to be treating her even better than before.
- But as she thought about those bikini photos, she started feeling a bit uneasy. Unable to hold it in, she asked while they were eating, "Mike, if one day you found out I'm not as innocent as you thought, would you ... "
- Before she could finish her words, the table suddenly got overturned.
- Crash! Bang!
- All the delicious food went flying, making a huge mess on the floor!
