Chapter 2 I'm Back!

  • Mike, who usually faced gunfire without flinching, now felt his heart pounding in his throat.
  • Falling from over a hundred meters up, even with a safety net below, the danger was real, especially if someone landed headfirst.
  • And Luna was falling headfirst!
  • "Hold on tight! Grab onto the net!"
  • The firefighters below shouted in urgency.
  • Fifty metres!
  • Twenty metres!
  • Ten metres!
  • As Luna was about to fall headfirst onto the safety net, everyone held their breath.
  • If she landed smoothly on the net, there might be hope.
  • But with her head downwards …
  • No one dared to guarantee her survival.
  • Just then, Mike rushed to the edge of the safety net.
  • "Ah!"
  • He yelled, his warrior spirit surging, creating a powerful force that pushed against Luna. It shifted her position, lessening the impact of her fall from the sky.
  • In the blink of an eye,
  • Luna landed on the safety net with her face up.
  • "Quick, bring her down and check her condition!"
  • The fire brigade captain called out.
  • In no time, they lowered Luna to the ground.
  • She lay on the safety net, her eyes blinking weakly.
  • Phew!
  • Seeing her like that, everyone breathed a sigh of relief.
  • At that moment, Mike sat beside Luna, gently cradling her in his arms. He tenderly caressed her bruised cheeks, tears shimmering in his eyes.
  • "Honey, are you okay?"
  • All the way here, he'd been terrified of not making it in time, scared of losing his sweet, silly wife forever.
  • Now, holding her close, the weight that had been pressing on his heart finally lifted.
  • "Mike, you're back?"
  • Luna's eyes turned red, her lips trembling.
  • "Yeah, I'm back."
  • Mike nodded. The tough guy who didn't shed a tear even during bullet-removing surgery now had tears welling up in his eyes.
  • Slap!
  • Luna lifted her slender fingers and slapped his face.
  • "I know you've been feeling down in this house, and I feel for you. But I've been feeling even worse. I've been enduring it all. Why couldn't you handle it? You left without a word and didn't answer any calls or reply to messages. Do you know how I've struggled through these three months?"
  • She yelled, tears streaming down her face like a dam bursting.
  • When she married Mike at twenty-two, she felt like she was in her life's prime. But being forced into marriage with a construction worker just to please her grandfather made her feel utterly miserable. She blamed Mike for ruining her life.
  • However, after tying the knot, she realised Mike was thrifty, hardworking, and treated her well. No matter how much she yelled at him, he never lost his temper and couldn't stand seeing her upset.
  • If she had to go out and ended up drinking too much, just one call and Mike would drop everything to come to her.
  • If she got too busy to do laundry, all she had to do was ask, and Mike would take care of washing her socks and underwear without hesitation.
  • When she was hungry, he cooked for her.
  • She used to think she'd be just fine without him.
  • But when he left, she realised she couldn't go on without him. Days without him felt like she'd lost her soul—she couldn't eat, sleep, or focus.
  • Even losing a pet you've had for three years would leave you worried, let alone a man who's been nothing but good to you.
  • "Sorry, honey. I'm never leaving you again!"
  • Mike held Luna tight.
  • She sobbed in his arms, letting out all the pent-up anguish of the past three months as tears.
  • "Luna, are you alright?"
  • Lana and Anton rushed over.
  • "Dad, Mom, Luna's okay."
  • Mike reassured them.
  • The couple let out a sigh of relief.
  • But soon, Lana pointed her finger at Mike and started yelling, "Why did you come back if you didn't die out there? If it weren't for you, my daughter would have married into a wealthy family and lived a good life as a young madam. She wouldn't have been harmed like this by that beast, Jason.
  • "Get lost! I won't let you near my daughter!"
  • With that, she yanked Luna away from Mike's arms.
  • "Who's this Jason guy? Where is he? Tell me!"
  • Mike's chest felt like it was ready to explode.
  • "He's the heir to Skyhill Media, loaded with tens of millions. His family has connections all over Aetherfield. You're nothing in front of him. Even if I tell you, what's the point? You're like an ant trying to take on an elephant," Lana said, her emotions boiling over.
  • Mike spoke firmly, "He might be the son of Aetherfield's big shot, but I can still take him down!"
  • Crack!
  • He clenched his fists, the sound echoing in the room.
  • "Honey, you head home first with Mom and Dad. I'll go deal with Jason and get your peaceful life back," he said.
  • Then, he turned away in frustration.
  • "Hmph!"
  • Watching Mike leave, Lana scoffed. "What a joke. Talking about crushing Jason, he's the one about to get crushed!"
  • "Uh-oh!"
  • Luna suddenly remembered something.
  • "Frank seems to be heading to find Jason. I have to go with Mike!"
  • With determination, she pulled away from her mom's grip and hurried after Mike.
  • Soon, Mike was behind the wheel of Luna's Audi, with Luna by his side, driving straight towards Skyhill Media.
  • Meanwhile, at Skyhill Media.
  • In a fancy office.
  • A group of young folks were chilling around a tea table, sipping tea and chatting.
  • "Mr. Gray, how did you drive Luna to such desperation?" one of the young men asked.
  • Sitting at the main table, Jason took a drag of his cigarette and smirked. "When I came back from abroad and found out her useless husband hadn't shown up for over two months, I suggested she divorce him and marry me. When she refused, I pulled some strings to make her company's finances collapse.
  • "She couldn't get any loans, so I showed her a way out. And she fell right into my trap. Now I've got some dirt on her.
  • "Then I used the dirt to threaten her, forcing her to marry me or else I'd spill it. She got desperate and I hit her a few times, and then she thought about ending it all."
  • Everyone burst into laughter.
  • "Mr. Gray, what's this dirt you've got on her? Show us," one of the young men asked curiously.
  • Jason grinned wickedly and pulled out his phone.
  • Suddenly, someone barged in.
  • It was Frank, urgently shouting, "Hurry! Jason, my sister's about to jump off a building! Go talk her out of it, quick!"
  • "Is this how you ask for a favour?" Jason narrowed his eyes.
  • Thud!
  • Frank desperately begged, "Mr. Gray, please, spare my sister, give her a chance. I'll do anything!"
  • Jason remained cold, saying indifferently, "If your sister marries me, everything will be fine. If she doesn't, it's not my problem whether she lives or dies."
  • Frank felt his rage boiling over. He stood up abruptly and yelled, "Son of b*tch, I'm going to take you on!"
  • He charged forward recklessly.
  • "You're asking for it!"
  • Jason slammed his hand on the table and ordered, "Get him!"
  • Several guys rushed in.
  • With a few punches and kicks, they brought Frank down, blood gushing from his head.
  • "Where do you think you get the guts to challenge me like this?" Jason asked.
  • He looked down at Frank coldly.
  • "If my sister dies, I don't want to live either. Even in death, I'll drag you down to hell with me!"
  • He grabbed Jason's leg and sank his teeth into it.
  • "Ahh!" Jason screamed.
  • He grabbed the ashtray from the tea table and wanted to smash it onto Frank's head.
  • Suddenly!
  • A large hand reached out and grabbed Jason's wrist.
  • "Who's there?"
  • Jason looked over.
  • He saw a man in camouflage clothing, his face stern, staring at him like the Grim Reaper.
