Chapter 3 An Impressive Engagement Gifts!
- "Mike?"
- Frank looked surprised, quickly standing up and angrily shouting at Mike, "Why are you here? Go save my sister!"
- "Your sister is fine, she'll be here soon," Mike said coldly.
- Then he turned to Jason and asked, "So you're the one who drove my wife to the point of jumping off a building while I was away?"
- "Oh, it turns out you're Luna's pathetic delivery boy husband." Jason sneered, looking disdainful. "What 'while you were away'? Even if you were here the whole time, so what? I messed with your wife, what are you gonna do about it?
- "I advise you to take your filthy hands off me, or else I … "
- Before he could finish his sentence, Mike's fist slammed viciously into his face.
- Bang!
- Blood and teeth scattered.
- "Ah!"
- Jason let out a miserable cry and his face contorted in pain.
- "We've been married for three years, and I've never dared to lay a finger on my wife. You've beaten her, leaving bruises all over her face, and pushed her to the brink of jumping off a building. If I don't take you down today, I'm not worthy to be her husband!"
- Mike gritted his teeth, pressing Jason against the table and raining down blows on his face.
- Bang! Bang! Bang!
- Blood splattered everywhere.
- Frank and Jason's friends were shocked!
- But soon, a young man grabbed a chair and tried to hit Mike.
- "Watch out, Mike!"
- Frank yelled to alarm him.
- With a swift motion, Mike sent Jason flying, knocking down the young man in the process.
- Then, he grabbed the chair and started smashing it onto Jason.
- "I'm warning you, my dad knows a lot of people. If you dare to hit me again, I'll make your whole family pay!" Jason yelled angrily, hands covering his head defensively.
- "Even if your dad knows everyone, I'll still beat you to death today!"
- Mike kept on pounding.
- "Whoa, has my brother-in-law lost it? He's going all out!"
- Frank's jaw hit the floor.
- Gulp!
- Jason's pals were all visibly shaken by Mike's rage, none of them daring to intervene.
- Just then, a figure rushed in frantically.
- "Goodness!"
- When she saw Jason's bloodied face, Luna gasped in horror, covering her mouth, her eyes wide with shock and fear.
- "You're here!"
- Frank's eyes lit up as he ran over and embraced his sister, tears of relief streaming down his face. "I was so scared. I thought I was gonna lose you. I even thought about going all out against Jason."
- Luna gently patted his back, and choked up, "I'm sorry, Frank. I shouldn't have scared you like that."
- She didn't have time to speak more before rushing to Mike's side, grabbing the chair, and earnestly pleading, "Mike, we can't keep this up. Someone could end up dead. The Grays are loaded, they could make us disappear in a heartbeat. We can't take them on. Let's go, now."
- Mike spoke gently to her, "Honey, even if he's worth billions, I'm still gonna beat him to death today, to make you feel better."
- "I'm already feeling better. Let's go! Come on!"
- Luna was frightened, pulling Mike away.
- In the car, Frank burst out angrily, "Mike, do you even see my sister as your wife?
- "All you do is work on construction sites and delivery, you're just a regular guy. My whole family looks down on you, despises you, and hopes my sister will divorce you.
- "She's dealing with so much pressure, turning down all those rich guys just to stay married to you. How could you just leave her and run away? Have you completely lost your conscience?"
- Luna's cheeks flushed with anger as she looked out the car window, recalling the three months without Mike. Tears welled up in her eyes.
- "I'm sorry, I let your sister down. From now on, I'll make it up to her," Mike said sincerely as he drove.
- Before, he had given up his power and returned to the city to moderate his hot temper in the lower ranks of society, unable to provide a wealthy life for Luna.
- Now, with one hand holding significant power and the other holding considerable wealth, he could provide her with anything she needed as long as she asked.
- Half an hour later, Frank got his forehead patched up in the hospital and Luna accompanied him.
- Meanwhile, Mike stepped into the corridor and called his subordinate Cole.
- "Use your connections to bring down Skyhill Media, and get a generous engagement gift ready to send to the Winters. Tell them it's a gift from Nation's Protector. Pick a day for a wedding. I want to surprise my wife and make up for the past three years."
- "I'll get right on it!"
- Shortly after, Luna and her brother came out of the medical room.
- Just then, Luna's phone rang.
- After she answered, her expression turned panicked. "Grandma is furious and wants us to come over. She probably found out about you beating up Jason."
- Mike smiled reassuringly. "It's okay. Let's go. If anything happens, I'll take the heat for you."
- Luna nodded.
- Suddenly, she noticed that Mike seemed to have undergone some significant changes this time he returned.
- The Winters, based in Aetherfield, were only considered a third-tier household, involved in the steel trade with assets of less than 15 million dollars.
- As soon as they entered the Winters residence, they were met with the sight of Rose Connolly, the Old Mrs. Winters, along with the eldest uncle and his wife, the youngest uncle and his wife, Luna's parents, and her cousins, all wearing grim expressions.
- Upon seeing Luna and Mike, Rose slammed her hand on the table and angrily pointed at Mike, scolding, "You worthless scoundrel! How dare you go and beat up Jason? You knocked his teeth out, broke his nose, and left his face in a horrible state. Because of this, Ethan Gray is furious and wants to ruin our family's business."
- "I want you to divorce Mike right away and get out of my Winters!" Rose fumed.
- Luna quickly protested, "Grandma, I won't divorce Mike."
- Rose, frustrated, snapped back, "What's so special about this guy? He's broke, powerless, and has no status. He's not even worth a dog. Marrying into a wealthy family and getting fat engagement gifts is better. What can he give you?"
- Luna shook her head. "I don't want to marry into a wealthy family, Grandma. Please don't force me, okay?"
- Smack!
- Rose slapped Luna across the face.
- "You insist on being with this loser? Are you only happy when you drag the Winters down?"
- Luna held her face, tears streaming down.
- Mike glared at Rose. "My wife is meant to be cherished, not to be hit. Lay a hand on her again, and you'll see what happens!
- "And just so you know, Skyhill Media has already collapsed. It can't threaten the Winters anymore. And as for me, I'll give Luna a hefty engagement gifts, ensuring her utmost honour!"
- "Haha!"
- All members of the Winters couldn't help but burst into laughter.
- Luna's cousin, Tony, stepped forward with a smirk. "How much are you planning to give Luna for the engagement gifts ?"
- "Over 15 million dollars."
- "Pfft!"
- Tony burst into laughter. "I believe you'll be giving 15 million tadpoles before I believe in 15 million engagement gifts! You, dressed like a peasant worker in camouflage, where do you think you'll get that money?"
- Hannah, Luna's cousin, sneered. "He's probably waiting for Luna to jump off the building again so he can light up 15 thousand white candles for her engagement gifts."
- Lana rushed over in a frenzy, yelling at Mike, "All talk and no action! What's the use of a worthless son-in-law like you?"
- But just then, there was a commotion outside.
- Everyone turned to look.
- They saw a military officer with two four-star epaulettes on his shoulders, striding proudly. Behind him was a group of guards, carrying over a dozen large boxes.
- "Who are these military officers here to give engagement gifts to?"
- Everyone was curious.
- Soon, the heavy boxes were placed on the ground.
- Cole unfolded the gift list and read it out loud in a booming voice.
- "One ton of gold.
- "Fifteen million dollars in cash.
- "A villa in the Regal Residence.
- "A pair of Dragon and Phoenix Jade bracelets.
- "A set of White Jade Pillows with Mandarin Ducks playing in the water.
- "A statue of fairy carved from longevity mountain stone."
- ….
