Chapter 5 Fake princess

  • Mirabelle's POV
  • “We are ready to serve you, ma'am. Is there anything you would want?” Three maids said in unison, like a recited speech or maybe they have been too used to saying them.
  • “No… thanks. I'll retire for the night.” I tried my best to make a fake smile but it came in an awkward grimace. It was a long journey getting here and my buttocks hurt from sitting for too long but it has gotten better from the herbal bath they performed on my sore muscles a few minutes ago. I feel much better.
  • “If you need anything princess we are at your service.” One of the girls with Chesnut hair, an oval face, and a pert nose says. She looked young, the youngest amongst the three girls. It took me back to when I started serving the Chief.
  • “What’s your name?”
  • “I mean you with Chesnut hair.” I corrected.
  • “I'm called Ruby.” Her small voice whispers inaudible to hear herself but I caught it.
  • “Thank you, Ruby. You prepared a luxury bath and got me into a nightie dress with your other maids. For that, I say a big thank you to all of you.”
  • “Ma’am it's our job.”
  • “Can I hug you? I've been a big fan. I heard you're a good warrior princess and you won…” she halts in her speech wide-eyed, stopping herself from saying any further.
  • I engulfed her in a hug and heard gasps from the others. I didn't need to get into their heads to find out what they might be wondering about.
  • ‘Why would a princess hug a commoner?’ and it wasn't their fault. They don't know the truth about my status.
  • I slowly pushed her aside gently and with a smile. “You have a hug, what else?”
  • “No princess…” she was shaking and next ran out sobbing uncontrollably, the others followed suit and the door slammed shut.
  • I jolted and glanced around the humongous bed, the mirrors, the exotic and lavish bedroom which had me biting on my inner cheek.
  • My feet gravitated towards the mirror and a tear rolled down my cheek. This was a mirage. My hair was now hazel, my eyes blue, and a major part of my skin olive-tanned like Princess Annabelle.
  • Alpha Dean made sure of it and now I was on a mission to take the Alpha down.
  • Why was I getting worked up? I always wanted to live in luxury, far from the struggles of my normal daily life as a slave but now I got an opportunity and these stupid feelings are ruining it for me. I facepalmed and slowly coiled up on the floor curling up my toes as tears streamed down my cheek.
  • Lying, false identity, and with the aim to kill an Alpha wasn't me. I've never lied nor killed anyone in my life but I had no option.
  • Nina and her poor farmer family will be in danger if I fail to complete my mission and I can't watch them die because of my misfortune. I'm filled with bad luck and It didn't come as a surprise why Alpha Dean would put me in place of his daughter so if anything goes wrong I'll take her death.
  • Sad but true. Princess Anabelle was going to take the glory of defeating the villainous Alpha while the truth fades into the back.
  • I had two months to kill him.
  • ~
  • (MORNING)
  • “Mother! Please don't kill me... Papa…” I groaned in my sleep wrestling at nothing when a knock came at the door. My eyes fluttered open and the strange environment had my lips open in bewilderment before I realised and remembered all that had happened.
  • I found myself on the floor. I must have fallen asleep here and with that realization I hurried to my feet with a weak voice.
  • “Come in.” I whispered-yelled.
  • The door knob was twisted and a smallish figure walked in. It was the servant girl Ruby and she stood at the mouth of the door and fell on her knees with a bow. “Good morning princess.”
  • I bit my inner cheek and rolled my eyes mentally. If there was a way to scream out my lungs and tell her not to bow or treat me differently I would have done so. The lies and deceit were eating at my conscience and I lacked peace since I stepped foot here. I was no princess but a lowly slave girl, I didn't deserve people bowing or ready to lick my feet.
  • “Morning… get off the floor please.” she nods offering her thanks while I sent her a puzzled look, she took cue and opened her mouth to speak.
  • “Your bathe princess. I'm here to prepare your bath and the Alpha has sent messages that the princesses are to make it to breakfast.”
  • How did I forget? Being a princess my bathing, food, and entire well-being will be carried out by servants. I used to think it was fun but now I've experienced how to be one, even though it was fake it felt like a prison.
  • “I can fix my bath. Why don't you get me something to meet the Alpha's taste?”
  • “The Alpha instructed us, maids, to run a bath and secondly we barely know what the King likes but I would say you shouldn't look too glamorous. Keep things simple… I'm sorry my princess. Who am I to advise?”
  • “It's okay Ruby. I didn't want anything looking serious. A simple blue gown will do.”
  • “Really... I mean thanks princess for listening to my words. I'm honored.”
  • “Why don't you run me a bath? I have sore muscles and I need your magic hands.” A genuine grin spreads on my face.
  • A few minutes later my hair was neatly washed as the ayurvedic properties she added to the water began to relax my hurting back and arm. Sleeping curled up was terrible. We didn't utter a word through the entire bath, just light giggles, and whimpers.
  • There and then I crossed my heart.
  • This was my new life now, It was my fate and I'm in all these already I will keep to it till the very end.
  • After having a relaxing and soothing bath. Ruby got me into a simple blue but pretty gown. It wasn't as simple as I thought but the least you'll think a Head princess wore.
  • “You’re ready my princess.” She announced fixing a crown to the base of my head.
  • ************
  • A guard led me to where the royal dining room was situated. I used to think working in the Chief's Head house was big and luxurious. Well, I just realised it didn't hold a candle to the Wolf's Heart Castle. It was extremely Big and with numerous doors, hallways, and confusing angles. Trying to get acquainted with the Castle will take a full score year or more.
  • How did the maids and servants survive in such a maze-like Castle? Only on the walk to the dining room did my eyes begin to turn and my legs began to hurt.
  • “It's here princess.” The guard stopped at a long door and pushed it open and with outstretched hands gestured I walk in. With slow strides I walked in with the steps princess Anabelle will murder with royal perfection.
  • The dining room was the most spacious I've ever seen with a long table far into the room. Servants were dishing out portions of the food into plates and there I saw the other six princesses dressed lavishly and looking extremely beautiful. I felt like the odd one but in reality, it wasn't far from the truth. I stood rooted to the spot in awe of the room, I'd never seen so much food at once in my entire life, and seeing something as enormous as this had tears pooling at my tear duct.
  • Nervous energy popped in my blood and I began to grow cold feet.
  • “Why are you standing there?” I turned to face where the eerie voice came from and locked my gaze with the Alpha. Alpha Dargan! His features looked tense as his eyes flared ruggedly, and his veins popped on his forehead like he was constipated with his strong biceps flexed under the thin fabric material he wore. My head exploded in shock and the next thing I knew I was slipping to the floor waiting to hit the ground.
