Chapter 77

• “Baby,” I said softly, gently shaking Juliana awake. The nurse was here to change my dressings. It was a different nurse from earlier, this one much younger. I wasn’t too keen on her touching me, especially with Juliana still being so vulnerable, but it was her job, unfortunately.
• Juliana groaned and slowly opened her eyes, blinking up at me. I smiled at her, running my fingertips down her cheek. “I need you to get up, baby girl. The nurse is here to change my bandages.”
• Juliana sat up, looking at the nurse. Something dark flashed in Juliana’s eyes that I couldn’t catch before she slipped off the bed. I slowly pushed myself into a sitting position, groaning in pain when every fucking movement I made hurt.
