Chapter 6 Zhao Qichen Returns

  • Qiao Xing nodded at Deng Yujiao and turned to Cheng Cheng without waiting for a response. "Dr. Cheng, I'll come to pick you up after work this afternoon."
  • Cheng Cheng understood immediately.
  • It was highly likely that Zhao Qichen had returned.
  • She nodded in agreement, and Qiao Xing left.
  • During the following hours, Cheng Cheng attended meetings, examined patients, reviewed medical histories, and prepared for surgery.
  • After the surgery, she pulled back the light blue curtains in her office and glanced outside. The moon was bright, and the stars were scattered. Downstairs, a discreet Porsche Cayenne was silently parked, its window perfectly aligned with her consultation room window.
  • Cheng Cheng couldn't help but chuckle softly.
  • Then, she packed up her things, put on a light windbreaker, and left work.
  • Deng Yujiao was on duty that day, and when she saw Cheng Cheng about to leave, she quickly caught up and asked, "Do you know where I've been assigned tonight?"
  • "Where?" Cheng Cheng's soft-soled shoes made no sound as she walked, her steps light.
  • Deng Yujiao frowned and said, "The ward for patients obsessed with their appearance!"
  • The patients obsessed with their appearance...
  • Upon hearing this exaggerated description, Cheng Cheng burst into laughter. "Jiang Gu doesn't even come close to being that scary."
  • "That guy is messed up. I heard he has an extreme personality. When he was dating, his girlfriend..."
  • "Dr. Cheng."
  • Deng Yujiao's voice was interrupted by Qiao Xing's call, and she looked at Qiao Xing in confusion.
  • Qiao Xing, upholding the qualities of a professional assistant, politely greeted Deng Yujiao and informed Cheng Cheng, "I've been waiting for you for a while."
  • Cheng Cheng lowered her eyes and smiled without any joy. "Sorry for keeping you waiting."
  • After saying that, she bid farewell to Deng Yujiao with a "see you tomorrow" and then left with Qiao Xing.
  • Deng Yujiao watched Cheng Cheng walk out of the hospital gate with a breeze, blinked her eyes, and for some reason, she always felt that Qiao Xing was like a haunting spirit, constantly clinging to Cheng Cheng and appearing unexpectedly, which was quite creepy.
  • Cheng Cheng left the hospital gate with Qiao Xing. Although Qiao Xing was good-looking, when Zhao Qichen lowered the car window and lazily revealed half of his face to look at them, Cheng Cheng still managed to capture all of his attention.
  • No matter how attractive Qiao Xing was, he couldn't get any attention from Zhao Qichen.
  • Qiao Xing politely opened the back seat door for her.
  • Zhao Qichen rolled down the car window and loosened his tie.
  • Cheng Cheng put down her Chanel bag and went forward to help him loosen his tie.
  • Her hand touched his collar, but Zhao Qichen's gaze remained fixed on her face.
  • In no time, the tie was undone and, in the next second, unexpectedly wrapped around Cheng Cheng's delicate and pale hands.
  • Qiao Xing, who was driving in front, turned the car onto the elegant path leading to Zhao Qichen's luxurious apartment.
  • In the back seat, the sound of heavy breathing grew louder.
  • Occasionally, Cheng Cheng's low sobbing could be heard, as if she was about to cry.
  • When passing by a tourist spot, Zhao Qichen's jacket covered Cheng Cheng's body.
  • By the time Qiao Xing parked the car in the garage, Cheng Cheng was already pulling at her clothes, feeling a bit disoriented.
  • "Did you miss me?"
  • After Zhao Qichen was satisfied, he rolled down the car window, lit a cigarette, and gently caressed her round shoulder while smoking.
  • Cheng Cheng was embraced by him, feeling exhausted and wanting to close her eyes.
  • But he blew smoke in her face, causing Cheng Cheng to frown and regain some clarity.
  • In the next second, Zhao Qichen extinguished the cigarette and threw it away, then pinched her chin and asked, "I'm asking you a question. Answer me."
  • Knowing that if she didn't answer, he wouldn't stop, Cheng Cheng simply hugged his neck and kissed his lips.
  • Finally, this made him laugh.
  • ...
  • At the hospital.
  • Deng Yujiao was so annoyed that she felt like she would go bald before dawn. She thought that if she couldn't hold on, she would be sent back to the operating room by the patient in bed 35.
  • "How is it?"
  • After Wen Jing was kicked out, Deng Yujiao sent Jieyu, a gentle and understanding nurse, to give sleep medication to Jiang Gu, who couldn't sleep.
  • As a result, when Jieyu came out, she looked like she wanted to become a nun.
  • She kept chanting, "Amitabha, Amitabha..."
  • Then she opened her phone and played a segment of the Great Compassion Mantra.
  • Wen Jing and Deng Yujiao fell into silence.
  • After a while, Wen Jing finally snapped out of the tense atmosphere and whispered, "Dr. Deng, should we give Dr. Cheng a call... I... I really can't handle him..."
  • Jieyu also spoke up, "Not only can you not handle him, even the most famous animal trainer from the circus couldn't handle him."
  • "I'll give it a try..."
  • Deng Yujiao called Cheng Cheng.
  • Cheng Cheng was sleeping soundly in Zhao Qichen's guest room at the moment.
  • Zhao Qichen was engrossed in looking at the Weibo updates Cheng Cheng had posted in the past few days on his phone.
  • Suddenly, he received a phone call and couldn't help but furrow his brow.
  • Cheng Cheng could sense that her doctor's nature was about to wake her up, transitioning from deep sleep to a state of readiness for work.
  • Zhao Qichen pressed the answer button.
  • On the other end, Deng Yujiao immediately spoke, "Cheng Cheng, something happened at the hospital..."
  • "She's asleep."
  • Zhao Qichen's voice sounded cold and indifferent.
  • Deng Yujiao was taken aback.
  • Zhao Qichen continued, "If it's not necessary, find another doctor."
  • Without waiting for Deng Yujiao's response, Zhao Qichen hung up the phone.
  • As if hearing him speak, Cheng Cheng, half asleep, asked, "Who..."
  • "It's nothing, go back to sleep."
  • Zhao Qichen put her phone in the drawer, pulled back the covers, and lay down.
  • The next morning.
  • Cheng Cheng woke up to find that Zhao Qichen was already gone.
  • His assistant, Qiao Xing, had prepared breakfast in the kitchen. When she saw Cheng Cheng wake up, she greeted her with a smile, "Miss Cheng."
  • "Good morning, Assistant Qiao."
  • Cheng Cheng greeted her.
  • Qiao Xing saw her sit down to eat and took out a contract from her briefcase.
  • Cheng Cheng was reading the morning news on her phone when she saw what Qiao Xing placed on the table and furrowed her brow. "What is this?"
  • Qiao Xing informed Cheng Cheng, "Mr. Zhao wishes to assist you in finding a new job. If you agree to sign these documents, I will handle all matters related to the job change on your behalf."
  • "Change jobs?"
  • Cheng Cheng found this rather amusing. "I haven't considered switching jobs. I am highly content with my current position, and the work environment is harmonious."
  • "Mr. Zhao is not pleased with that."
  • Qiao Xing dutifully carried out Zhao Qichen's instructions, without considering whether Cheng Cheng found them reasonable or cared about her opinion.
  • "Just sign these."
  • Qiao Xing even provided her with a pen and a fresh red inkpad.
  • Observing Cheng Cheng's determination, she set aside the spoon she was using to eat porridge, took hold of the contract, and, to Qiao Xing's surprise, tore it in half with a crisp sound.
