Chapter 19 : A New Perspective

  • A good night's sleep.
  • Early in the morning, Ye Fengwan finished grooming herself and headed to Ye Xiang's study with Qinghe.
  • The sun was shining brightly, and the flowers in the courtyard were blooming vibrantly. A contented smile appeared on Ye Fengwan's lips.
  • However, Qinghe, who followed behind her, couldn't muster a smile. The one hundred repetitions of the Diamond Sutra still hadn't been completed, and it was already approaching noon!
  • One of the servants attending to Ye Xiang noticed Ye Fengwan approaching and hurriedly stepped forward, saying, "Miss, Master Xiang is practicing swordsmanship in the garden. You can find him there."
  • "Alright!" Ye Fengwan replied with a faint smile, leaving the servant dumbfounded. He had never seen such a radiant smile before. Was this really the same Miss who used to hide from people?
  • Before Ye Fengwan even entered deep into the garden, she caught sight of Ye Xiang's figure from afar.
  • To be precise, it was a black silhouette.
  • He was practicing his martial arts, and Ye Fengwan continued to approach gracefully. She could hear the sound of a sword tearing through the air, indicating that Ye Xiang was practicing swordsmanship.
  • No wonder there was occasionally a flash of silver amidst the black silhouette. It must be the sword in his hand.
  • Ye Fengwan couldn't help but curl her lips, crossing one arm over her chest and resting the other on her chin, enjoying the sight of the silhouette.
  • She never expected that her father would be such a martial arts expert.
  • He was almost fifty years old this year, but who would have thought that he could practice swordsmanship so smoothly and gracefully, like flowing clouds and running water? Truly, he was getting stronger with age.
  • As if sensing her presence, the movements of the black silhouette gradually slowed down. Then, Ye Xiang's clear face and figure were exposed to her eyes.
  • Once again, she was slightly surprised.
  • Is that...muscle?
  • The black clothes clung to his body due to sweating from the practice, subtly highlighting Ye Xiang's muscular physique.
  • Observing the faint curves, Ye Fengwan could easily guess that her father had a strong physique.
  • She couldn't help but sigh inwardly.
  • She had no idea that her own father was so impressive!
  • Perhaps it was because the original owner of her memories was too timid and inconspicuous, never daring to look people in the eye, nor being looked at directly by others.
  • It made her, the one inheriting her memories, miss out on many things!
  • "Dad!" Ye Fengwan sweetly called out to Ye Xiang.
  • Ye Xiang held a long sword in his hand, sweat dripping from his forehead. However, he didn't bother to wipe it off. He just stared at the bright little girl in front of him. The morning light shone on her fair and translucent face, making her even more dazzling. He couldn't help but feel guilty. For the first time, he was truly looking at his daughter.
  • "Dad? What's wrong with you?" Ye Fengwan walked up to him and affectionately held his arm, tilting her face up to ask.
  • "Why did you come out so early? Aren't you afraid of catching a cold? Where is your cloak? How did Qinghe take care of you?" Ye Xiang shifted his gaze to Qinghe standing beside them.
  • "Dad! Don't blame her! It's not her fault. I just didn't want to wear it! I'm not afraid of catching a cold!" Ye Fengwan wrinkled her cute nose and said.
  • "Then, do you have something to tell Dad?" Ye Xiang looked at her indulgently.
  • "Yeah, I want to have breakfast with Dad!" Ye Fengwan said with a smile.
  • "Alright!" Ye Xiang agreed with a smile.
  • Naturally, Ye Fengwan affectionately linked her arm with Ye Xiang's and walked towards the direction of the study. As they walked, she curiously asked Ye Xiang about the sword techniques he had just practiced. Ye Xiang patiently explained them to her.
  • The servants in the mansion who witnessed this scene were almost dumbfounded. In this mansion, Ye Fengxue had always been the most favored one, and Ye Xiang's gaze had always been gentle and doting only when directed at her. But today, it seemed that the wind was changing!
  • Some people felt that this legitimate young miss, Ye Fengwan, was about to turn her fortunes around!
  • Ye Fengwan was thinking about copying the Diamond Sutra one hundred times and naturally didn't notice the thoughts of the servants. The two of them were already in the courtyard while conversing!
  • Steward Quan walked up quickly and handed a towel to Ye Xiang.
  • Ye Xiang wiped the sweat off his forehead and instructed, "Go to the small kitchen and tell them to bring the food to the study. Also, prepare two servings. The young miss will eat with me. And remember to add a snow pear with rock sugar. I remember that Wanwan likes it, right?"
  • Ye Fengwan's eyes welled up with tears, and her throat felt sour. She couldn't help but curse the original owner for lacking backbone. It was normal for a father to remember his daughter's preferences. Why was she so moved by this?
  • "Yes, I like it!" Ye Fengwan obediently nodded.
  • "Alright, I'll make a note of it! I'll go to the small kitchen to prepare!" Steward Quan said and turned to leave.
  • "Wanwan, you go to the study and wait. I'll go bathe and change my clothes!" Ye Xiang looked at her tenderly.
  • "Okay!" Ye Fengwan replied and entered the study with Qinghe.
  • This was the first time Ye Fengwan had entered the study of the Ye Mansion. The interior was meticulously arranged, with pear wood bookshelves filled with thick books. In the center, there was a large redwood desk covered with rice paper, and valuable stationery was placed beside it.
  • Qinghe finally seized the opportunity when no one was around and anxiously said to Ye Fengwan, "Miss, it's almost noon. The time to hand in the Diamond Sutra is getting closer and closer! Have you figured out a solution?"
  • "Why are you in such a hurry? Qinghe, it's not even noon yet, right?" Ye Fengwan reached out and took a military book from the bookshelf, reading it with great interest.
  • "Miss! What if Madam punishes you again? I'm worried that she will resort to corporal punishment! This is not a trivial matter; it concerns filial piety!" Qinghe's face turned pale with worry.
  • "What does it have to do with filial piety?" A calm and solemn voice suddenly sounded, startling Qinghe, who quickly closed her mouth.
  • "Dad? You're back?" Ye Fengwan saw that Ye Xiang had changed out of his training clothes and was now wearing a casual silk robe as he walked in.
  • "Are you reading a book?" Ye Xiang looked at the thick military book in her hand, his eyes filled with surprise. He should remember correctly that this little girl couldn't read. It wasn't something he deliberately remembered; it was just that Madam always complained in front of him that this child wasn't making progress, which often made him furious. Over time, he became lazy to care about her!
  • "Yes!" Ye Fengwan nodded cutely.
  • "Can you understand it?" Ye Xiang chuckled, deliberately not mentioning her illiteracy to save her face.
  • "Yes, this is the Military Records of Training Soldiers. It was written by Qi Jiguang during his military training in Jizhen. It teaches soldiers how to select and train, as well as the cultivation of generals!" Ye Fengwan confidently explained.
  • Ye Xiang's eyes widened instantly, and a hint of astonishment flashed in the depths of his eyes. He suddenly laughed and said, "Wanwan, you really make me see you in a new light!"
