• I sat down on the couch, watching him. His demeanor had shifted, his earlier intensity replaced by a chilling coldness. "Don't worry about your phone. I'll replace it as long as we get back to San Gabriel," he said, leaning back on the couch, his gaze fixed on his drink.
• I stood before him, my heart pounding. He had changed so quickly, his mood shifting like the tide. I felt as if I had somehow offended him, stepped on his ego.
• "You can sleep now. At five o'clock in the morning, the yacht will dock at San Bartolome. You still have time to rest," he said, glancing at his wristwatch.
