Chapter 6 Another Incident

  • Watching Isabelle cry tears of joy, Lily hurriedly wiped away her tears.
  • In a soft, slightly frightened voice, she said, "Mommy, I want this uncle to be my daddy. I want a daddy."
  • Isabelle cried even harder and nodded repeatedly. "Okay, I agree."
  • Instantly, Lily happily wrapped her arms around both Stephan and Isabelle's necks. "Yay! I am so happy!"
  • Stephan had never felt such peace in his heart, never in his entire life.
  • Standing behind them, William and Laura were both shedding tears as well. They loved their granddaughter deeply, but sometimes, certain things were beyond their control.
  • Suddenly, Lily’s stomach growled. She wrinkled her nose and rubbed her belly. "I'm hungry. I am craving 'basta'."
  • "What is that?" Stephan was puzzled for a moment before Isabelle wiped away her tears and smiled.
  • "She means pasta," said Isabelle
  • "How could daddy not know what 'basta' is? Grandma makes the best 'basta' ever!"
  • Thinking about the term "basta", Stephan suddenly burst into laughter.
  • Anyone from the battlefield would be shocked beyond words if they saw it. Who would have thought that Stephan, known as the "Wargod of Purgatory", would have such a day where he could smile like this?
  • "Alright, we’ll make 'basta.' How about I cook for you personally?"
  • After a moment of hesitation, Lily finally agreed.
  • Watching Stephan busily working in the kitchen, Isabelle felt content. She didn’t ask for wealth or luxury. Just being able to give their daughter a complete family was enough
  • "Daddy’s cooking is so delicious!" After just one bite, Lily was already praising Stephan’s cooking skills. For him, this was more nerve-wracking than any of the highest honors he had ever received—this was his daughter’s approval, after all.
  • After finishing the meal, Lily went back to her room. Stephan told a few bedtime stories, and by about eight o’clock, she was already fast asleep.
  • Coming downstairs, Stephan saw the whole family gathered in the living room. After sitting down, he asked, "Whose plan was it to auction off Lily?"
  • No one could answer this question. Isabelle waved her hand. "Let’s not dig into this anymore."
  • "You’re back now, and Lily’s identity no longer needs to be hidden. Everything's out in the open, and Grandpa probably won’t say anything more. That’s enough."
  • Stephan frowned. Lily had suffered so much, and for those involved, there was nothing that they could do to pay for it.
  • Seeing that he remained silent, Isabelle’s expression hardened.
  • "Listen, the smiles I gave you earlier, the kindness—they were all fake. From now on, in front of Lily, we’re a loving couple. Behind her back, we’ll talk about forgiveness when I’m ready."
  • "Don’t think that all the hardship that I had endured in the past four years can be erased so easily."
  • Stephan sighed. He knew he owed her. Unable to help himself, he reached out his hand, only for Isabelle to shove it away immediately.
  • "Don’t touch me without my permission," warned Isabelle angrily.
  • "Alright."
  • At that moment, William’s phone rang. He glanced at it, frowning, but answered it anyway.
  • "Hello—" He only managed to say one word before his expression started to change, shifting dramatically.
  • In less than a minute, he suddenly threw his phone onto the table and pointed at Stephan, cursing loudly, "Damn it! You came back and already brought disaster upon us!"
  • Isabelle quickly asked, "Dad! What happened?"
  • Looking at her, William grew even angrier. "Stephan slapped Matthew a few times? Why didn’t you tell me about this?"
  • "That incident?" Isabelle frowned. "Matthew said some really horrible things and he deserved to be slapped. What’s wrong with Stephan protecting me?"
  • "What’s wrong with that?" William laughed in anger.
  • "Do you know how much power your uncle holds in this family? Even though Matthew is adopted, he’s treated no differently than a biological son."
  • "You’ve offended your uncle now. Do you think we’ll have an easy life from here on out? Well, congratulations. your grandpa just called."
  • "Since Stephan is back, they’re dropping the matchmaking and Lily’s issue. But because he was bold enough to slap Matthew, we just lost the lucrative business we were about to take over. Instead, they gave us that worthless brick factory to run!"
