Chapter 5 Organizing A Birthday Party

  • "Mr. Holt, please escort her out," commanded Wanda, realizing her mistake. She obediently followed Mr. Holt and left.
  • Suddenly, Marlin, who had been lying by Eddie's side, barked and caught everyone off guard as it quickly ran towards Wanda.
  • Marlin chewed on the corner of Wanda's shirt, refusing to let her leave.
  • Wanda was taken aback. "What is happening?" she wondered.
  • Eddie's face turned stormy when he saw this unexpected behavior from Marlin.
  • He never expected Marlin to switch sides so easily after playing with the woman for a while.
  • In a cold tone, he called out, "Marlin, come here!"
  • Marlin was dumbfounded, ignoring Eddie's command.
  • This was the first time Marlin had disobeyed Eddie, and it left Eddie with an awfully stormy expression.
  • The atmosphere around them became tense and grave.
  • "Mr. Eddie, it's almost time," Justin courageously spoke up from the side.
  • Upon hearing this, Eddie remembered that he needed to retrieve an important document and meet a European business partner later.
  • Eddie glared at Wanda, his sharp gaze sending a chill down her spine.
  • "I will deal with you when I return," he warned Marlin.
  • "Phew, that was a close call," Wanda thought, feeling relieved as the pressure dissipated once Eddie left.
  • She let out a sigh of relief and turned to pat Marlin's head. She felt touched by Marlin's loyalty and refusal to abandon her.
  • "You're named Marlin, aren't you?" she said, finding the name quaint.
  • 'Woof, woof!' Marlin responded, confirming its name.
  • From that moment on, a friendship between the woman and the dog was established.
  • Afterward, Mr. Holt led Wanda around the villa to help her familiarize herself with the surroundings. They eventually stopped in front of the guest room on the second floor.
  • "Mrs. Young, this will be your room from now on. Please feel free to ask me if you need anything," Mr. Holt informed her.
  • "Mr. Eddie's room is next to yours. His study room is at the other end of the corridor. Please do not enter his study room without his permission."
  • Wanda silently looked at the study room with its tightly shut door at the end of the corridor. She nodded and replied, "Alright, I understand."
  • Although Wanda was staying in a guest room, it was incredibly spacious. It had a bathroom and even a closet. The room was decorated in a gray-and-white color scheme, which suited her taste.
  • She opened the wardrobe and found it filled with women's clothes of various styles, including dresses, pants, undergarments, socks, and more. The clothes still had tags on them, indicating that they were recently purchased all at once.
  • Every item she randomly looked at was branded and worth tens of thousands.
  • "Who prepared all of this for me?" Wanda wondered, furrowing her brows. However, she quickly dismissed the thought, assuming that they belonged to Eddie's ex-fiancée.
  • She had left, and Wanda was left with the leftovers.
  • Wanda had nothing and couldn't be picky. She chose an outfit that suited her style and entered the bathroom.
  • The hot water washed away the exhaustion of the day. After showering, Wanda received a call from Luther.
  • Without thinking, she rejected the call. However, her phone rang again shortly after, but this time, it was a call from her stepmother, Rachel Diaz, who had betrayed her.
  • Wanda furrowed her brows and pondered before answering the call. Rachel's voice immediately filled her ears, speaking in a friendly yet pretentious tone.
  • "Wan, where are you now?" Rachel asked.
  • Wanda responded coldly, "I'm outside."
  • "What's going on?"
  • "Silly child. Your dad and I have been worried about you since you left in a fit of rage a few days ago. Your twenty-fifth birthday is in two days, and your dad has organized a grand birthday party for you. You must come!"
  • After beating around the bush, Rachel finally revealed her true intention.
