Chapter 4 A False Alarm
- Wanda heard a loud ringing in her ears.
- Wanda could never have imagined this. Never mind that she married a man she didn't love, she also became a stepmother!
- It was difficult for her to express her current emotions.
- What should I do?
- As she followed the servant inside, Wanda tried to put on a friendly smile like a caring mother.
- I hope Marlin won't chase me away because I'm his new stepmother.
- 'Woof, woof!'
- A deep and loud bark echoed in her ears. A large German shepherd with pure black fur lay ahead.
- Its cold eyes stared at them icily, and its bark warned Wanda not to enter its territory.
- Both the servant and Wanda immediately stopped.
- She still didn't understand what was going on. She only heard the servant say, "Dr. Guille, please come and take a look."
- "If Mr. Holt returns and finds out that Marlin hasn't eaten, we'll be in trouble."
- Wanda was shocked.
- What the heck!
- Eddie's son is a dog?!
- So it was a false alarm?
- Wanda had seen Eddie's cold-hearted expression. She thought he was capable of taking out his anger on someone innocent because of his dog.
- She didn't expose the servant's mistake. Wanda nodded and said, "Alright, I'll give it a try."
- She had participated in a stray dog rescue event in college and had experience in calming dogs.
- "Hello, good boy. Hello." Wanda approached slowly, wearing a non-threatening smile.
- As she approached, the dog suddenly stood on its hind legs, towering at three feet tall. It bared its teeth and growled softly. It startled the servant behind Wanda, causing her to retreat slightly. She spoke with concern, "Dr. Guille…"
- "Good boy. Are you in a bad mood?" To the servant's surprise, Wanda didn't back away. Instead, she approached, leaned down, gently touched the dog's head, and caressed it lovingly.
- The initially irritable dog lowered its head and meekly enjoyed Wanda's gentle touch.
- There was a significant change in the dog's behavior, and the servant was amazed. It was the first time she had seen the dog act so meekly with someone other than Eddie.
- Wanda stroked the dog's fur twice and confirmed that it wasn't in pain before turning to look at the servant. "Where's the garden? I want to play with it for a while."
- The servant led Wanda to a garden the size of a football field.
- Wanda held a frisbee in her hands and started playing with the dog.
- Wanda and the dog played happily.
- Her laughter sounded as pleasant as the tinkling of a bell, filling the garden.
- At that moment, a black Bentley stopped at the entrance of the villa. Eddie's long, slender legs stepped out of the vehicle before his cold face was revealed.
- His brows furrowed tightly, and he quickly walked into the house. Justin followed behind him with a serious expression.
- A blurred figure caught Eddie's attention as they walked past the garden. He stopped in his tracks and looked to the side.
- His eyes narrowed as he saw the person in the garden and the scene unfolding. His eyes narrowed slightly, and he muttered under his breath, "Marlin."
- The dog was about to pick up the frisbee that Wanda had thrown when its ears twitched. It changed direction and ran towards Eddie.
- Surprised, Wanda turned and saw the tall and lean Eddie standing under the flower porch.
- But from his expression, the man seemed slightly unhappy.
- Wanda pursed her lips and walked over, politely saying, "You're back, Mr. Eddie."
- "Who told you to play with it?" Anger appeared on Eddie's face as he looked at Wanda.
- "No one. I wanted to play with it." Wanda was taken aback. "It seemed a little unhappy, so I wanted to play with it to help it relax."
- Eddie furrowed his brows. "Didn't anyone tell you that it just had surgery and can't exercise?"
- Wanda's heart sank. No one had informed her.
- She immediately felt guilty and said, "I'm sorry."
- Eddie sneered disdainfully at her apology. "Do you think your apology means anything?"
- "I…" Wanda was stunned. She never expected Eddie to make such a mean comment. She hadn't done it on purpose.
- If Eddie had spent more time with his dog, it wouldn't be unhappy and refuse to eat.
- At that moment, Mr. Holt, the butler of Young Residence, led the actual veterinarian, Dr. Guille, in. After the examination, the vet said, "Mr. Eddie, Marlin is recovering well. The exercise just now didn't have much of an impact. It can engage in appropriate exercise in the future, which will aid in its recovery."
- Upon hearing this, Wanda breathed a sigh of relief.
- That being said, Eddie's expression didn't soften. "Wanda, don't be so audacious in this house. Also, I don't want you to take initiative again. Otherwise, I'll kick you out."
