Chapter 2 Don't Ever Think About Winning My Attention

  • An hour later, Wanda emerged from the Civil Affairs Bureau, clutching her new marriage certificate, following Eddie.
  • A peculiar, indescribable feeling churned inside her. Had she really just tied the knot like that?
  • But the satisfaction of thwarting Luther's nearly decade-long scheme overcame her doubts.
  • "Take this to the hospital," Eddie instructed as he walked ahead, handing the certificate to Justin.
  • Justin looked surprised; he hadn't expected Mr. Young to act so swiftly, delivering the certificate in mere moments. Absolutely efficient!
  • With a hesitant tone, Justin said, "Mr. Young, Ms. Copper is already on her way..."
  • Upon hearing this, Eddie shot him a sharp look. Justin immediately fell silent, swiftly moving to carry out some task.
  • Matilda Copper, the top-tier A-list celebrity?
  • Standing nearby, Wanda eavesdropped and realized that Eddie was quite a coveted hunk. He seemed to captivate even female celebrities!
  • After a brief reflection, Wanda couldn't resist silently congratulating herself.
  • Thank goodness she had acted swiftly! Eddie was now her man!
  • Eddie abruptly swiveled around while Wanda's mind buzzed with pride and satisfaction.
  • His towering figure instantly loomed over Wanda, and his gaze dropped to the corners of her smiling lips.
  • His voice, calm and impassive, sliced through the air. "You look quite pleased."
  • The sudden change in tone left Wanda's smile frozen.
  • "Of course, marrying someone like you, wealthy and good-looking, is every woman's dream..."
  • Wanda tried to compliment him, but Eddie's cold words interjected.
  • "Ms. Kirk, I married you because I needed a wife."
  • "To me, you're like an item on a store shelf. We can discuss terms, but don't try to win my attention or affection."
  • "Otherwise, I'll make sure you regret getting on my nerves today."
  • His intimidating gaze sent a chill down Wanda's spine.
  • This guy showed no gratitude for her help; instead, he treated her like a product.
  • Regret had started to creep in...
  • "Got it," but there was no going back once the dice was cast.
  • After all, Wanda hadn't married Eddie due to romantic feelings.
  • After a brief pause, Wanda added, "Rest assured, I'll be your convenient team player."
  • She knew it was a mutually beneficial arrangement and nothing more than that.
  • Seeing Wanda's compliance, Eddie's expression softened, and he prepared to return to the company.
  • "Hold on a moment..." Wanda quickly caught up, "Mr. Young, are you not taking me with you?"
  • "I'll text you the address, and you can catch a cab there," Eddie turned and looked her way.
  • Wanda didn't let go of the door handle. She gave him a pleading look and said, "Mind if I come along with you? It's a place where I don't know anyone, and I'm worried they might show me the door."
  • Wanda wasn't trying to hitch a ride in Eddie's car; in fact, she had been secretly holed up in a hotel for a few days since she uncovered all the shady stuff happening at home. Plus, she'd shelled out some matchmaking fees, and her pocket money was now down to less than a hundred.
  • It dawned on Wanda that people like Eddie dwelled in those swanky villa communities far from the city center. In contrast, she couldn't even afford a taxi with her little money.
  • So, in the end, Wanda was declined from getting into Eddie's car.
  • However, right after Eddie drove off, she received his text message instructing her to head to West Suburb Memories, Building 8.
  • It was quite a hike from the city center, and when she checked her meager change, it fell short of a taxi. Consequently, she had to search for a suitable bus route.
  • To her amazement, she stumbled upon a bus line that stopped just three kilometers from Eddie's place.
  • Talk about luck!
  • "Wanda!"
  • Just as she was about to exit, a voice called out behind her. It sounded like Barry.
  • Wanda turned around, confirming it was indeed Barry, who had Bethany alongside him, and they looked like a couple.
  • Wanda shot them a disdainful look before striding away without another thought.
  • "Wanda!" Seeing her leaving, Barry left Bethany standing there and hurried to catch up, reaching out to grasp Wanda's arm.
