Chapter 7 Keep Your Eyes On The Road

  • I tensed up when I heard what she said, 'Am I being obvious?' I asked myself but got no reply.
  • "But don't worry, we both know that you can never have feelings for me, after all, we are siblings." She disengaged from the hug and kissed my cheeks.
  • She pulled away and pointed at the coffee mug, "Don't drink too much coffee." She said and left.
  • I breathed out the air I didn't know I was holding, I sighed and returned to my seat, I picked up the coffee mug and had a taste of what she made. The coffee she brewed was strong and dark, I liked it.
  • Weeks passed by quickly, Abby was busy with her job, and I saw less for her at home, I know it's supposed to make me happy but it doesn't, my feelings for her are still the same. The little time I get to see her, she's always on her phone talking to that douchbag.
  • Abby's POV
  • I wasn't wrong when I gave Alex a second chance, he has been the best boyfriend ever, and he has always been so supportive of me. My job is tiring and demanding, I barely have time for myself and him but he never complains about it.
  • It's Saturday and I'm going over to Ruth's, although we work in the same company, we barely see each other. "Are you ready to go?" Derick asked.
  • "Yup."
  • Mom and Dad are out on vacation, apparently, they've decided to spend their entire life traveling to different places.
  • "I'll take you there." He said, he picked up his car keys and walked out, and I quietly followed him outside. While he sat in the driver's seat, I sat in the back seat, he looked at me as if trying to analyze something.
  • "What's going on? Why are we not moving?" I asked him.
  • "Do I look like an Uber to you?" He asked with furrowed brows. I shook my head, "So what are you doing behind there? Get your ass to the front seat." Although his words sounded serious he wasn't, his tone was playful.
  • I changed positions and went to the front seat as he demanded. But minutes after sitting he still didn't drive us to Ruth's. "What now?" I asked staring at me, he was staring right back at me.
  • He leaned in, his face was in front of mine, and I could feel his warm breath on my skin. Slowly he took hold of the seatbelt and buckled it for me, "Seatbelt first sweetheart." He said staring at me in the eyes, I gulped down my saliva.
  • 'What is this feeling? Why did I want him to kiss me? Why is my heart racing?" I leaned in, I wanted to have a taste of his lips but before my lips could touch his, he retreated.
  • "I feel like I need to take you everywhere you have to go because it seems like you can't respect simple road rules." He muttered and ignited the engines.
  • While he was talking, my eyes were focused on his lips, I just couldn't stop staring at them. "Abby, are you with me?" He asked snapping his fingers.
  • "Yes I am, keep your eyes on the road Derick." I faced my front and leaned into my seat, I don't know why I suddenly wanted to kiss my brother, this was insane.
  • "Uhm Derick, why don't you have a girlfriend?" I decided to ask.
  • "Because I can't have the person I want, it's impossible to have her." The sadness in his voice made me sad.
  • "Why can't you have her? Is she married or something?" He didn't respond to my question, he just continued with the ride. I felt sorry for him, he must be lonely. With the way he treats me, I'm sure he is going to be the best boyfriend ever.
  • "We are here." He announced I looked out the window and indeed we are here.
  • "Want to come in?" I asked staring at him in the eyes, he shook his head and just waved me off.
  • I waved him goodbye and left, I stood in front of Ruth's door and watched him drive out of the compound, I smiled, before finally knocking on Ruth's door.
  • "The door is open!" I heard her say, I entered her house. Ruth lives alone, her dad died when she was ten and her mom remarried and has paid more attention to her new family.
  • "You look flushed, what happened?" Ruth asked.
  • What does she mean by that? Don't tell me I've been sitting in the car with Derick like this, what is he going to think of me? How can I be flushed because of him, he is my brother and I am in a relationship. 'Does that make me a cheat?' I wondered within me.
  • "It's probably the heat, Derick refused to turn on the aircon." I lied and she nodded.
  • "Is he still bullying you?" She asked sounding worried.
  • "No, he is not, he has been the best big brother a girl could ask for, always supportive and encouraging, and above all, he is caring and very attentive." A smile crept on my lips while I was talking about him, this is crazy.
  • "Okay then. Abby, why did you come here instead of going to visit Alex? You know he is your boyfriend." She suddenly asked, what's up with her?
  • "Well because friends come before boyfriends. We've barely spent time with each other but if you don't want me here I'll leave." I turned to leave, and she quickly grabbed my hand.
  • "Come on, I was just asking. Come on, let's go. I've selected movies for us to watch the entire day and I've popped some corn." She laughed after saying that.
  • We sat on the floor and I placed my head on her shoulder while the Korean version of Miracle In Cell Number 7 was playing on the screen. I've never watched it before but she said there are four versions of the movie, one is the Philippine version, the turkey version, the Indonesian version, and finally the Korean version. I wonder why one movie has so many different versions, is it that good? Well, we are about to find out.
