Chapter 5 Birthday Suit

  • "Do I have something on my face?" I asked, touching my face.
  • "No, you don't." He muttered and lowered his head. I decided not to read meaning into his actions.
  • It's been a week and I've not received any calls from the company, did I get my hopes up for nothing? Ruth has been busy lately so I haven't been able to get a hold of her.
  • Derick's POV
  • I've been watching Abby for the past week and I can tell that she is not happy, she has been staring at her phone waiting for their call but they haven't called her. She is probably in her room, thinking again.
  • I snapped at the direction of her phone when I heard it ringing, it was an unknown number. I picked it up and ran to her room, I knocked on the door but got no response, I knocked again and again but nothing.
  • 'she is surely sleeping.' I thought within me, the phone was still ringing, so I barged into her room but she wasn't in her room. About to leave, the bathroom door opens, and she comes out dressed in her birthday suit with water dripping down her body.
  • "What the fuck?!" She yelled.
  • I quickly turned my back on her, I know I should have done that long ago but my feet were glued to the floor. "I'm sorry, I didn't know you were in the bathroom, I knocked and nobody answered so I went in." I quickly explained.
  • I heard the bathroom door open and shut, I didn't dare to look, it opened and shut again. "You can look at me now." I heard her say.
  • I slowly turned to face her, she had worn a bathrobe. "What is it?" She asked.
  • "Your phone was ringing, I know you've been waiting for their call so I thought it was them, I mean the company so I rushed here to bring it to you because I didn't want you to miss it but they'd dropped the call." I handed the phone to her.
  • She called the number, I stayed and waited because I wanted to know who it was too. "Good morning," she muttered.
  • "Of course, why not, thank you so much." She dropped the call and stared at me, she ran to me and hugged me, her legs wrapped around my torso, I quickly held her under her butt so she doesn't fall.
  • "I got the job." She yelled.
  • "What? Really? Congratulations."
  • She stood on her feet, "I'm sorry, I was just too excited." She quickly apologized after she realized what she had done but personally, I don't mind it.
  • "It's okay, you were just happy. Uhm, it's almost time for me to leave for work, I should go get ready, you'll tell me everything they said later, okay?" I asked, she nodded like a ten-year-old.
  • I roughed her hair and left, I shut the door behind me and leaned on it. She doesn't know that she is driving me crazy, did she forget that she wasn't wearing anything under that robe? With a sigh, I went to my room to get ready for work.
  • When I arrived at the office, everyone greeted me, I could hear distinct chatter from my staff but I decided to ignore them, they weren't expecting to see me, and I didn't tell them when I'd be back to work.
  • "Good morning sir." My PA said standing up on her feet and leaving her office when she saw me.
  • "Hmmm." I hummed, and she quickly followed me into my office reading my schedule for the day.
  • "Okay, you can leave, I'll brew my coffee," I said to her.
  • "Huh?" She asked, she must be surprised that I told her I'd make my coffee myself because I've never made coffee for myself well never in this company.
  • "Did I stutter when I spoke?" I asked, frowning at her, she shook her head and left.
  • I went to the coffee machine and made coffee for myself, stood by the glass window, and stared outside while drinking my coffee. The scene from earlier played in my head on repeat, I wish I could tell her how I feel.
  • I received a text message from her, which read "Mom and Dad will be back this evening, Dad fell sick." This text brought me back to reality, we are siblings, she is my sister and I can't have any romantic feelings for her.
  • Reality hit me hard, the blow from reality was strong, and the coffee in my mug suddenly tasted like mud. I kept the mug and went back to my desk. I called my PA, "Get the staff ready for a meeting." I dropped the call.
  • I covered my face with my hands, "This is so hard." I muttered. I stood up and walked out of my office, my PA wasn't in her office, she was probably already in the conference room. When I entered the conference room, everyone suddenly stopped talking, I walked majestically to my seat and sat.
  • "Good morning everyone," I flashed them a smile that left as soon as it came.
  • "Good morning boss," they all chorused.
  • "I haven't been to work for the past week and some days, can you all tell me what you've been doing?" I asked.
  • The team leader of each team gave me a presentation of what they have done for the past few days I've not been to work, I was impressed, they weren't slacking.
  • "That'd be all," I said, nobody made an effort to leave, not until I left the conference room. I spent the entire day in my office, with a pile of paper and documents for me to look at, compliments for the days I've been off work.
  • When it was time to go home, I was tired as fuck. My PA was already standing in front of my door when I walked out, I ignored her and left. I just want to go home and hide in my room.
  • 'Maybe I should avoid seeing her, this migh
  • t help me.' I thought, I went back to my office, carried the unfinished work, and went home with it.
