Chapter 12 Don't Call Me Madam
- "Nonsense! How can that be possible? I miss you a lot too, but I have to work to earn money to buy you toys. That's why I haven't been visiting," he explained to her, but he was pretty unnatural and rigid, with his face blushing. After all, this was the first time he spoke to children from a fatherly perspective.
- "Toys! What did you get me, Daddy? Mommy said you will get me lots of toys when you return." She immediately became excited at the mention of toys.
- "Er…" He looked at the BMW woman with a stunned expression on his face.
- "About that, Annie… Daddy rushed back because he heard you are ill, so…" she quickly continued.
- "Of course, Daddy bought toys for you. You're my favorite, Annie. I wouldn't come back empty-handed, of course! I left the toys in the car downstairs. I'll bring them up now and give them to you. How about that?" He interrupted the woman's excuse when he saw Annie's expectant eyes.
- "Yay! You're the best, Daddy!" With that, she suddenly got up, hugged him, and kissed his cheeks.
- It was a simple kiss, but he felt his heart had melted. To kids, there were no lies and schemes. Everything was pure and straightforward. If they love someone, they show their love without pretenses.
- When the BMW woman saw that, tears welled up in her eyes, unable to help herself anymore, she turned around and wiped them away.
- "Give me a moment. I'll get them for you now." After placing Annie back on the bed, he turned around and ran out of the room.
- "Where are you going?" The woman ran after him.
- "To buy toys." Without even turning around, he ran into the elevator.
- "Mommy, Daddy is the best. I love him!" Annie told her mother animatedly as soon as she reentered the ward.
- "I know. Daddy also loves you the most." She hugged her daughter tightly, with tears streaming down her face.
- After reaching the ground floor, he searched along the streets for a toy store. Finally, he found a store ten minutes later and bought a lot of huge toys that girls would like. As expected, they cost a bomb – it was way out of his financial comfort zone, but he still bought them without hesitation, as though he was a father buying presents for his child for the first time.
- When he returned to the ward with the huge toys in his hands, he was sweating profusely. After passing it to Annie, she was over the moon and opened it excitedly with the caretaker next to her.
- Ben walked out of the ward and started smoking in the corridor, sweat still trailing down his skin.
- At this moment, the BMW woman walked out of the ward with a glass of water.
- "Thank you," she said as she passed it to him.
- He gulped it down thirstily.
- "You're welcome. I should do this now that she sees me as her daddy."
- "How much does it cost? I'll pay you back." With that, she took out her purse.
- "I don't need it."
- She was startled by his refusal, but she kept her purse and said, "I'll minus the amount from your debt then."
- "No, it's fine. It's a present from me. You don't have to pay for it." He shook his head.
- "H-How could this do? It's one thing to help me out, but another thing to buy her presents. We have to be clear on money. I can't take advantage of you."
- "She kissed me, so I want to buy her some presents. You're not taking advantage of me because it's my own decision. I like her." He shook his head as he explained to her.
- She looked at him with a conflicted expression.
- He continued to smoke until the nurse came. Then, he stubbed it out hastily and looked at his watch. "Madam, it's getting late now. I have to go back to prepare for business later. I'll let her know that I'm heading to work soon, and I'll revisit her tomorrow."
- "Okay. By the way, my name is Vincy Shaw. Stop calling me madam; I'm not that old."
- "Oh, okay. Bye, then. I'm sorry about the diamond ring. I didn't mean it, and I have no intention of reselling it for money. I'll slowly repay you the money for the ring, and I'll look after Annie whenever I have some free time. Take good care of her, will you? She… is a very likable child. I like her a lot."
- With that, he turned around and left, showing her his back that was dampened with sweat.
- Meanwhile, at the same hospital in an ICU ward, a young, beautiful girl just woke up from her coma. The fancy ward showed that her family was very well-off. After she woke up, the group of specialists and doctors who quickly checked her revealed that she was someone special.
- After they made sure that she was fine, her parents finally felt relieved.
- "Tilly, you almost scared us to death! What on earth are we going to do if something goes wrong?" The middle-aged wealthy lady sobbed.
- "Mom, look at me – I'm fine! Even the doctor said everything was normal. I can be discharged in another two days," Tilly Glamshaw said.
- "Look at you! I can't help getting angry as soon as I see you. You treat everything lightly and always think we will ruin your life. I asked you to study business management, yet you insisted on learning to dance. Sure, we relented. We let you study abroad, but you came back only after a year. Even after coming to my company to work, you refused to learn how to manage the company and insisted on finding a job on your own. I would have no complaints if you found a proper job, but you became a dance teacher instead. I can't believe that my daughter is a dance teacher! Oh, how I'm going to be mocked by everyone! Putting that aside, you even left our comfortable home and rented a place alone, saying that you wanted to be independent. You are our only daughter, you know. Find a better place, at least! Look at the shabby place you rented! A fire even broke out, and you were almost killed! If it weren't for a kind person who saved your life, you would have been burned alive!" Her father, Michael Glamshaw, flared up immediately.
