Chapter 4 Foolish Woman

  • Without giving it a second thought, Theo signed his name and immediately tossed the phone to Nikita. He instructed her to sign a prenuptial agreement. Then he strode toward the courthouse doors.
  • A gust of cold wind blew past, and Nikita instinctively shivered. Only then did she realize that the man had been blocking the wind for her all along.
  • She looked down at the loan receipt in her hand, which had 'Theo Morris' written in bold letters. Gripping her phone tightly, she hurried after him.
  • The process went smoothly without any further issues.
  • In just a few minutes, they were officially married.
  • As they left the service window and entered the hallway, Theo suddenly stopped and blocked Nikita behind him.
  • Nikita was still in a daze, not quite grasping how she had just gotten married in such a blur. There was no warning; she walked straight into his back, her nose colliding with his back. The intense pain caused her eyes to fill with tears.
  • She quickly stepped back, rubbing her nose, and apologized.
  • Her enchanting eyes were shimmering with unshed tears. They had a bewitching charm that seemed captivating.
  • Theo felt his throat inexplicably dry. It was a foreign sensation that made him frown.
  • He scolded, "Don't be so careless!"
  • After that, he pulled out a bank card and a set of keys from his pocket, which he handed to Nikita.
  • "Kingsbury's Golden Residence, Building 20, Unit 2, Apartment 608. Here's the key. You can move in anytime you want.
  • "This bank card will have 50,000 dollars a month for living expenses. How you use it is up to you.
  • "Grandma isn't well and she won't live with us, but you'll have to visit the estate once a week to see her. I'm leaving on a business trip tonight. I don't know when I'll be back, so do as you please."
  • He rattled off everything all at once and was about to leave when he suddenly paused as if remembering something.
  • "The money you need will be transferred to your account this afternoon."
  • Nikita's mind was overwhelmed with all the information. By the time she gathered her thoughts, Theo had already disappeared.
  • She looked down at the bank card and keys in her hand, feeling as if she were in a dream.
  • Nikita had just married someone she had known for less than ten minutes.
  • Theo walked out of the courthouse, where the driver was already waiting at the entrance.
  • As he got into the car, Dorothy eagerly asked, "How did it go? Isn't the wife I picked for you something special?"
  • Special?
  • Theo thought back to the absurd electronic loan document and couldn't help but smirk.
  • Perhaps especially foolish?
  • The agreement was full of loopholes; any competent lawyer could easily make sure she walked away with nothing.
  • He shoved the marriage certificate into Dorothy's hand.
  • "I had gotten married. We cannot delay your surgery any further. The specialist team is arriving tonight, and I'll have Aunt Jill stay with you."
  • Dorothy looked at the marriage certificate, her face glowing with satisfaction.
  • The old woman said, "Even if I die on the operating table, I can finally rest in peace. When I see your grandfather and your parents in the afterlife, I'll be able to answer to them."
  • "Grandma, you'll only have a heart bypass. The success rate is over 90 percent."
  • Theo frowned, his voice betraying a trace of helplessness, though his icy eyes softened.
  • In Rivendell, he could be ruthless and decisive with anyone, except for the grandmother who had raised him.
  • Dorothy rolled her eyes and stuffed the marriage certificate into her pocket.
  • "There's still a ten percent chance I could die! I expect to see your child born within three years. If not, I'll have your aunt publish a magazine article accusing you, the heir of the Morrises, of lacking proper male function!"
  • Theo was speechless.
  • The loan repayment period for that foolish woman is precisely three years.
  • He had anticipated this. With Dorothy's personality, there was no way she would give that foolish woman a promise like 'Pay back the money and you can get divorced' so easily.
  • He didn't bother responding but motioned to the driver to start the car.
  • As the vehicle began to move, Dorothy suddenly gripped the door and exclaimed in panic, "Nikita—your wife—she hasn't gotten in yet!"
  • "Grandma I'll only marry once in my life. So, shouldn't I put my wife through a test?"
  • With a single sentence, Theo cut off Dorothy's next scheme to protest.
  • A test? What exactly does Theo have in mind?
