Chapter 7 I'm the Outsider
- Most of the people present were startled by what I said.
- What seemed like a classic “wife versus mistress” suddenly turned into a incest drama of incestry.
- It was indeed on purpose. I could endure his humiliation because I loved him.
- But I could not endure Song Meiqian strutting about before my eyes, pretending to be a woman of innocence and purity, because I hated her to the bones!
- "Ning Jing." Cheng Jinghao shot a gloomy glance of warning at me.
- I sneered, "What? She dared to do it, but I mustn't talk about it?"
- Song Meiqian's whole body trembled. Her gaze was full of fright. "Don't—I beg you, please don't say it!"
- I did not know what was frightening her, something felt wrong about this situation.
- Cheng Jinghao's icy cold gaze fell unwaveringly on me. It was as if he would choke me to death if I said one more word.
- He said coldly, "Ning Jing, this is the Chengs' house. Do you have an issue with me bringing two people in? Bao's my child—it is only right for him to stay here."
- Unable to agree, I mocked unyieldingly, "Your child? What is Song Meiqian not capable of doing? You believe in her just because she says so?"
- A woman who could even climb on to my father's bed, her morality had been long gone.
- Cheng Jinghao took Bao from Song Meiqian's embrace and gently wiped the tears off his face. He said with an emotionless yet powerful voice, "I am informing you, not asking for your permission. Do you understand?"
- A rush of intense grief swept me over. My tears were at the verge of falling. Even my clenched fists trembled.
- For the sake of protecting the woman who had betrayed him, the man I loved for years left me with not even a shred of dignity in front of our relatives.
- My mother in law could not bear to look at this scene anymore, she said sternly, "Enough! What Jing said makes sense—the Cheng family will never accept a child of dubious background."
- My mother in law succinctly regained a bit of dignity for me. The Chengs was a big family and also a family corporation. They had to be more cautious than everyone else in matters regarding bloodline.
- Song Meiqian took out a report from her bag and passed it to my mother-in-law, crying so pitifully, "Mrs. Cheng, it’s all my fault. I've let Jinghao's child suffered so much with me..."
- Suffered?
- I scorned to myself. What did she suffer? Though I’ve not went back to the Nings for the past few years, I more or less knew that she was faring very well.
- My mother-in-law's expression changed as she scanned that report, she turned to the housekeeper and whispered a few words.
- My heart was uneasy, and my nerves felt tensed.
- Less than five minutes later, the housekeeper came back and nodded to my mother-in-law.
- Traces of happiness lit up my mother-in-law's face. She passed the report to me, almost without hesitation she said, "Jing, it's been years and you haven't had a child—it’s not a bad thing that we have one now."
- Boom—
- The plot twist happened too suddenly. It felt like my mind was wrecked and bombarded, rendering me speechless for a long time.
- My fingers shook when I flipped open the report. A shiver went up my spine. They even had the paternity test report ready. While I, look like a complete fool.
- I almost couldn’t breathe. Tears filled the rims of my eyes and bursted out. "Mom..."
- My mother-in-law was suddenly stern, "You want there to be no descendants for Jinghao?"
- This question jabbed me right at my soft spot, I froze stiff and was completely incapable of refuting.
- Cheng Jinghao being the person in power for Dongchen Corporation's—it’s clear that it’s important to have an inheritor. Nevertheless, I wasn’t impregnated for the past four years, so it was inevitable that my mother-in-law wasn’t satisfied.
- I did not dare to tell her that I could do nothing since Cheng Jinghao did not want a child.
- But it seemed like I was wrong too. It was not that he was not willing to have a child; it’s just that he didn’t want to have a child with me.
- I took a glance at Cheng Jinghao, who still had an indifferent expression, I dropped my gaze and answered in despair, "It’s my mistake."
- It was my mistake to fall in love with a man who would never spare me a glance.
- Song Meiqian looked very reluctant. She said weakly, "Mrs. Cheng, I'm willing to give the child to Jing, but if I'm not by his side at night, he won't sleep."
- The implication was: she would stay with the child and live together with us.
- I took a deep breath, with anger so intense that my scalp felt numb. "Song Meiqian, you are so good with your schemes! Back then, you plotted against my mom. Now, you want to play the same old trick against me too, right?!"
- Even a fool would not yield in this situation. It was just that I never expected that my mother in law, who had always been astute, would actually speak for her.
- My mother in law pinched the child's pasty cheeks and let out a soft sigh, "Okay, you'll rest in the old residence tonight. Tomorrow, Bao will move into Jinghao and Jing's place—you should also go and accompany him for a while."
- I was in disbelief and subconsciously wanted to refute, but I was suddenly disheartened, feeling that I was the outsider.
- A sharp pain spread in my chest as if stabbed with a knife. My feelings for Cheng Jinghao seemed to be vanishing bit by bit in this indescribable pain.
- My mind was blank. I ran out of the Chengs' old residence in a miserable state and drove away without knowing where I could go.
- Everywhere was twinkling with neon lights, bustling with life. Yet there’s not a place that I belonged to.
- After a few moments of hesitation, I drove towards the hospital.
- My mother's surgery four years ago was not very successful. Even until now, her condition would recur from time to time. Under Cheng Jinghao's arrangement, she was moved to this private hospital, which was top-notch in every aspect.
- I repressed my feelings and chatted with her. It was only after she fell asleep that I burst out crying, as weak as a child, wishing I could let out all of my grievances.
- By the time I returned to the villa, it was already passed midnight.
- I initially thought Cheng Jinghao would spend the night in the old residence. Unexpectedly, the door was pushed open just after I returned to the room after my bath .
- Cheng Jinghao walked in. His whole body was emitting an icy aura as if he was holding in his anger with all his might. He said with a gloomy voice, "Why did you leave the old residence without saying anything?"
- Ah... He came in the middle of the night just to ask this.
- Those who did not know would think he worries about my safety.
- Enduring the piercing agony in my heart, I raised my head to look at him. "Could it be that I should stay to look at your family of three, just like an outsider?"
- He took his time to light up a cigarette. "Meiqian's just going to stay for a while. Once Bao settles in, she'll leave. Do you despise them that badly?"
- I was so angry I wanted to laugh. It was more than obvious that keeping Bao company was just Song Meiqian's excuse. Her real motive was the man in front of me.
- Back then, she looked down on Cheng Jinghao because he was just a boss of a small company and chose to climb on to my father's bed.
- A few years had gone by. I thought she had resigned to her fate, but apparently she still couldn’t come to reconciliation.
- I nodded without any hesitation at all and said indignantly, "Yes, I can't stand the sight of them! How stupid am I to disregard a habitual mistress and an illegitimate child..."
- At this point, he pinched my lower jaw hard, forcefully cutting off the rest of my sentence.
- His gaze was cold and aloof, and his voice chilling in the bones. He said, "In the matter between Meiqian and Ning Hairong, she was the victim—you are hating the wrong person."
- My eyes widened in disbelief. I looked at him as if I was looking at a stranger. "Cheng Jinghao, can't you tell right from wrong?"
- I always thought he was a calm and steady person who was able to distinguish right from wrong. Yet, he tried to tell me that the woman who had driven a wedge between my parents' marriage, was a victim—this was really the most ridiculous thing I had ever heard!
- He was indeed devoted to Song Meiqian. He could even tolerate her lack of basic morality.
- He tightened his grip. With an even gloomier voice, he said word by word, "Ning Jing, your father Ning Hairong raped her. These past few years, she's been leading a very difficult life, and she's humbled herself enough in front of you—don't go overboard."
- My father raped Song Meiqian? Her life had been difficult the past few years?
