Chapter 14 Notice for Critical Condition
- I did not like him humiliating me like this.
- I did not like him touching me after he had touched someone else.
- It had been more than half a month since Song Meiqian moved in. I did not believe that nothing happened between them.
- His movements suddenly came to a stop. The heavy breaths that were falling on my neck gradually calmed down.
- In a flash, his gaze dimmed. He then got off the car and left without saying a word.
- As I watched his tall figure through windshields, I could not help but feel down.
- It had never crossed my mind that we would come to this plight.
- I was in a daze in the car for a long time. It was only after the dazzling headlight flashed from the opposite direction that snapped out of my daze and got off the car to return home.
- I bumped into Song Meiqian when I was going up the stairs. Her line of sight fell unabashedly on my collarbones. "Vixen!"
- I looked down to take a glimpse and realized it was the hickeys from Cheng Jinghao. I said nonchalantly, “Between my own husband and I... this is our own kink—how would the mistress understand?"
- "Ning Jing, you!"
- She pointed furiously at me with a resentful gaze and stomped her feet in anger, unable to say a word.
- Before she could speak, I went directly to the doorstep of the master bedroom. I took a deep breath and opened the door, only to realise that Cheng Jinghao was not inside.
- Mrs. He happened to pass by, I tried to pretend as if I was just casually asking, and was informed that Cheng Jinghao went straight to his study upon returning home.
- I felt a bit relieved. As long as he was not in Song Meiqian's room, anything else was fine by me.
- ——
- The next day when I was at work, Meng Kai called me to his office. He earnestly apologized to me for the matter last night.
- Nevertheless, after he confirmed that I was determined to resign, he did not force me to stay.
- The HR department managed to secure a replacement for me very quickly. In less than two weeks, I was done with the handing over.
- But when I left the workplace that I had been for five years, I couldn’t help but felt a trace of reluctance.
- I returned home feeling depressed. I closed the door to my room, wanting to calm down a little. I also had to think about to do next.
- I removed my makeup and laid down on the bed. My eyelids felt heavier by the second.
- "AH—"
- An ear-piercing shriek rang out from the playroom next door. It sounded a bit like Bao.
- My heart jumped. I immediately got down from bed and put on my slippers to run towards the voice.
- I walked into the playroom hurriedly and stood frozen on the spot for a second. Bao was lying motionlessly at the playing area. Blood was spreading on the ground.
- I ran frantically, wanting to go back to my room for my cell phone to call the emergency number. However, when I reached the door, I ran head-on into Song Meiqian and Mrs. He.
- Upon having a clear look at the scene inside the room, Song Meiqian questioned me like she had gone crazy, "Why?! Why did you have to hurt my child?!”
- I hastily denied, "I didn't. I just heard..."
- “Slap!”
- She swung her palm and a slap landed on my face, shouting at the top of her lungs, "You're a malicious woman! I know you don't like Bao, but he's still a child—how could you be so ruthless..."
- "Song Meiqian, please calm down a little!" I said while putting off the taste of blood inside my mouth, "Mrs. He, quick, call an ambulance."
- Mrs. He was also terrified. It was only now that she took out her cell phone and called an ambulance.
- Song Meiqian gave me a hard push. She glared at me fiercely and said, "You don't need to pretend to be kind! If something happens to Bao, I would not let this matter slide!"
- The ambulance came very quickly. Bao's blood formed a huge stain on the floor; even Mrs. He's eyes were suffused with suspicion when she looked at me.
- Right when Bao was sent into the emergency room, my mother-in-law and Cheng Jinghao also arrived.
- Cheng Jinghao strode over. His whole body was emitting a bone-chilling vibe. His voice was heavy and cold, "What's going on?"
- Song Meiqian threw herself into Cheng Jinghao's embrace, stuttering between her sobs, "Jinghao, I'm scared..."
- I was in a bit of a daze. I sensed something wrong with the matter, but I could not explain it clearly.
- My mother-in-law said sternly, "Mrs. He, what happened."
- Mrs. He took a glance at me and said, "At first, Miss Song and I were keeping Bao company as he was playing. Bao wanted to have some fruit juice, so I went downstairs to get some for him. Before long, Miss Song was also down for some water. Less than two minutes later, we heard Bao screaming.
- We ran upstairs and saw young madam nervously coming out of the playroom..."
- The more I listened to her, the more I sensed something wrong. Mrs. He's last sentence... was directing the blame at me.
- The implication was that I was the one who caused Bao to be injured.
- Cheng Jinghao frowned and looked at me. His deep gaze emitting shards of ice. It was summer but I felt cold to the bones.
- I shook my head. "It really wasn't me!"
- Fuming with rage, my mother-in-law raised her hand. A tight slap landed fiercely on my cheek. It threw me into a dumbfounded state.
- "Ning Jing, you've really disappointed me!"
- My mother-in-law who was in a towering rage said vehemently to Cheng Jinghao, "Divorce! You have to divorce her now! The Chengs will not condone a malicious woman like her!"
- I felt like I had fallen into a meticulously woven net and which I was powerless to put up a struggle.
- Feeling utterly helpless, I stared at Cheng Jinghao in a daze, waiting for his final verdict.
- His dark eyes were filled with menace. He said gloomily, "You should go first."
- I was frantic. Tears welled up in my eyes as I grabbed his wrist and rigorously explained, "Jinghao, it really wasn't me. I only heard Bao screaming, so I ran over to take a look..."
- He freed his wrist from my grip and took a condescending glance at me. However, this one glance was like a sharp blade that made me give up on all of my hopes and feelings.
- My hands hung stiffly in midair. I could not hold back my tears. They streamed down my face. "You still don't believe me. You're unwilling to place even a tiny bit of trust in me."
- Last time when Cheng Xi had an accident, he was like this.
- And again, he’s being like this.
- I loved him till I was exhausted both mentally and physically, but I still could not see any trace of hope.
- After Bao was pushed out of the emergency room, I left in a distracted state—I did not even know how I made it out of the hospital. By the time I regained my senses, I was already standing at the doorstep of our house.
- I entered the password in a daze, opened the door and changed into my indoor slippers.
- I stood at the bottom of the stairs, looking towards the direction of the playroom still dumbfounded, as if a walking corpse.
- This matter was out of the blue. Even till this moment, I could not get my head around it.
- From Bao screaming, to me running over and bumping into Song Meiqian and Mrs. He...
- This series of occurrences seemed to be nothing peculiar, but I kept on thinking that something was strange.
- Where exactly did the problem lie?
- My chest felt so stuffy I could hardly breathe. Being accused wrongly like this felt even more unbearable than an immediate divorce.
- I consoled myself. Bao just got into an accident. My mother-in-law and Jinghao were in a fit of anger—that was why they weren’t listening to my explanation.
- After a few days for their anger to subside, I would explain the matter again properly.
- However, I completely did not expect another fatal blow would arrive before their anger could subside.
- "Ning Jing, your mother had overdosed on sleeping pills. She was just sent to the emergency room. The doctor had issued a notice for critical condition…"
- I had been waiting at home for only two days, and I had to receive such news from the hospital.
- Overdosed on sleeping pills… A notice for critical condition…
- These remarks frightened me immensely. Even my legs were trembling as I stepped on the accelerator. I could lose anything in exchange for my mother to be well.
