Chapter 6: The Contract
- "This is the contract you signed five years ago Marie," he said.
- I was scared. Yes, I signed it. But why did he bring that up again?
- "Wh
- ... Why did you bring it?" I asked him.
- "It has your signatures and you're obliged to follow it
- ," he said.
- "
- So... You're here to threaten me right? Adrian maybe this contract was signed by me but remember this that the Marie you married is dead for the world" I said.
- "But she's not dead for me because you're standing in front of me. And I'm not here to threaten you either. See the contact last page" he said.
- I slowly opened the contract and the last page.
- "Contract Termination" the heading read. One page was attached too.
- "Divorce agreement
- ," it said.
- "What's this?" I asked him.
- "I want you to terminate this contract
- ," he said.
- "Adrian for everyone in this world, the Marie that married you is dead. They don't know that I'm the one. Now
- , who are you gonna divorce with? A dead person?" I asked with tears in my eyes.
- "You're not dead Marie
- ," he said.
- "I don't want to terminate it
- ," I said clearly.
- "Why?" he asked.
- "If you get divorced with a dead person then everyone will know the truth and you think that the deal you gave me will not be critici
- zed? I don't want the future to be destroyed once again, Adrian"
- "But I can't see you sad. I can't see you tied with a person you hate" he said.
- "That's what our parents wanted, Adrian
- ," I said.
- "
- So..did you ever like me? Or those two years were a fake?" he asked. I could see tears in his eyes.
- "Adrian you know I loved you at that time
- ," I said.
- "You did
- ... But we've been separated for more time than we were together. I don't want to tie you with me when we've spent three years without each other" he said.
- "I know
- ... Let it be the way it is. I don't want to break this relationship after... After my parents are dead... It was their last wish.."
- "Do you
- ... Like anyone?" he asked like he was hurt. So hurt. But he knows I don't like anyone. I can never love anyone after what happened.
- "Adrian, I don't like anyone. I also don't want anyone to know about us. So please take this contract" I said.
- "Marie..." he said. I looked at him.
- "Can you give me another chance?" he asked looking down.
- "Adrian.. Don't make it difficult for me
- ," I said.
- "It's ok
- ... I'm leaving. think about this ok?" he said and without waiting for my answer he left.
- Why Adrian. I don't know why but my heart says that I should not break this contract of marriage with you. And I reasoned it with my parent's wish but I think you still have a place in my heart.
- I left for home early. The night celebration was to start at 9. I went home and told Maya that I'll reach the venue on time. I started thinking about him.
- Was he really innocent in all this? Then why? Why was he carrying that girl? Why didn't he speak for himself? Why did he not stop me when I left him?
- It was 9. I reached the venue. The party was great. I enjoyed. I remembered that Adrian and I also had a party when we started loving each other. But it all ended three years ago. The day I saw him carrying that girl
- ... The day he had nothing to say.
- But I enjoyed the party and reached home. There was a notification
- on my phone.
- Adrian: There is an official meeting of all the officials of my company and you and your PA with me. I hope you will come
- to the mentioned venue at 2 pm.
- "I will" I replied back. I'm sure he was shocked
- by this because I haven't replied to any of his messages for three years. He messaged I saw and ignored.
- I told my PA about the meeting and we got ready for it. Maya is more like my friend. But she still doesn't know about me and Adrian. I went out first, she was checking that everything was ok.
- I went out of the office and I saw Adrian standing there.
- Why was he here? He was supposed to be at the venue. Don't tell me he's here to pick me!!
- "Come with me!" he said and dragged me somewhere we were alone. It was
- ... I guess a parking lot.
