Chapter 11 Maliciously Reported

  • Since word got out about them saving the young girl who was supposed to be sent to the ER department, the number of patients visiting the traditional medicine department increased steadily.
  • The traditional medicine department bustled with activity. Paul had gone on a business trip, leaving Elliott and Howard in charge.
  • Early in the morning, Howard was making his rounds in the ward when he saw a patient suffering from pathological diabetes.
  • “Dr. Andrade, this patient requires a blood sugar test, but the lead doctor has to conduct the examination personally due to the unique nature of the patient's condition. This is Dr. Elliott's patient, but he hasn't arrived yet.”
  • At the nurse's words, Howard's eyes flickered briefly. Setting down the medical record, he waved a hand dismissively. “Okay. I'll examine him first, then.”
  • “Is that really appropriate?” The nurse hesitated. “Should we inform Dr. Elliott first?”
  • Howard looked at her in dissatisfaction. “Is Dr. Elliott the only person who exists in your eyes? Can't I perform the checkup?”
  • Ever since Elliott came into the picture, his temperament had become increasingly eccentric.
  • The nurse muttered a few words before she left.
  • Howard glared at her retreating figure discontentedly.
  • “D*mn it! Everyone believes that b*stard, Elliott! I'm an honor student who graduated from a medical university! What exactly are that guy's qualifications? One of these days, I'll get to the bottom of it!”
  • He then went up to the patient. “I will be examining you today.”
  • When the patient saw that it was a doctor from the traditional medicine department, he didn't voice any objections and willingly cooperated.
  • No sooner had the nurse reached the nurse's station than Elliott appeared.
  • While he drove his wife to work that day, he got held up in traffic for a while.
  • However, he was overjoyed because her attitude toward him had changed recently, seemingly softening considerably.
  • When he entered the department, he was even humming.
  • “Seriously, I find Howard's mood so odd lately! He just snapped at me a moment ago! All I did was remind him it was Dr. Elliott's patient, and he glared at me!”
  • The nurse sat down in exasperation, seemingly feeling a bit aggrieved.
  • The nurse beside her chuckled. “You unaware of this yet, huh? Because of Dr. Elliott's arrival, Howard's position was usurped. If it were me, I'd also hate Dr. Elliott.”
  • “Ah, I see!”
  • Upon hearing their conversation, Elliott halted in his tracks. He changed directions and headed toward the nurse's station instead.
  • “What did you just say? Were you referring to the patient in Bed No. 37 who has pathological diabetes?”
  • His sudden appearance startled the two nurses. They jumped before nodding.
  • “Yes, that's right. Dr. Andrade is examining the patient.”
  • “D*mn it! It's that b*stard again!”
  • Elliott hastily made his way to the ward.
  • The patient in Bed No. 37 was a unique case. Each time he conducted a checkup, he proceeded with caution because the patient also had pathological platelet deficiency, lacking active coagulation function.
  • Once the patient suffers a minor wound, it would bleed continuously.
  • With that in mind, he quickened his pace.
  • But just as he stepped into the ward, he was greeted by the sight of Howard with panic written all over his face.
  • The man's white coat was stained with some blood, and he was panic-stricken as he watched the blood that continued to gush out.
  • “W-What's going on here? This has nothing to do with me!”
  • Elliott stepped forward and yanked him away. “Who gave you permission to touch my patient?”
  • “Why can't I do so when we are both doctors in the traditional medicine department?” Howard vented his anger on Elliott.
  • Elliott narrowed his eyes.
  • Is he an honor student for real? Someone who constantly vents his incompetence on others is the incompetent one instead, no?
  • He couldn't be bothered to engage in idle chatter with Howard, for if left untreated, the patient could potentially suffer from various complications due to excessive blood loss.
  • By the time he reached the patient's side, the patient had already fallen into unconsciousness, and the surrounding medical equipment was blaring away.
  • Perhaps sensing something amiss, the nurses rushed in.
  • “Dr. Elliott, do you need any help?”
  • “Yes. Get ready and draw the curtains. I want to treat the patient on the spot.”
  • With a swoosh, the curtains were drawn, forming an enclosed space.
  • Elliott lifted the patient's eyelids. Through observation, listening, and pulse-taking, he assessed the patient's condition.
  • Luckily, the situation wasn't critical.
  • He first used silver needles to stop the patient's bleeding. Then, he performed acupuncture to stabilize the patient's condition.
  • A short while later, the bleeding stopped.
  • Nonetheless, the patient remained in shock. Thus, he wrote a prescription and had the nurse fill it.
  • Only after administering the medication to the patient did Elliott finally left the ward.
  • By then, the culprit, Howard, had vanished. He seized the opportunity while Elliott was treating the patient to sneak into Paul's office to investigate the man's identity.
  • He had long since harbored suspicions about Elliott's identity as the latter didn't seem like a doctor who graduated from a reputable university in the least but had the demeanor of a country doctor instead.
  • Soon, he found Elliott's information.
  • Just as I suspected, he doesn't even have a medical qualification certificate!
  • He grinned triumphantly and put it away.
  • Subsequently, Howard went to Elliott's office with the photocopy, having delivered the original one to the director's office.
  • “Elliott, oh Elliott! You're done for today!”
  • That was the first thing he said upon stepping foot into Elliott's office.
  • Elliott's brows furrowed. “What nonsense are you talking about? Have you lost your mind?”
  • With a bam, Howard tossed the photocopy of Elliott's documents onto the table.
  • “Are you going leave by yourself or be kicked out after we report you? How audacious of you to treat patients without a medical qualification certificate. I wonder how they would feel if they were to learn about this!”
  • At that moment, he was particularly smug.
  • And here I thought it was something serious! A smirk curved Elliott's lips.
  • He was invited there by Paul, who was well aware he didn't have a medical qualification certificate. It was not like he insisted on coming to work on his own.
  • Therefore, he feared nothing.
  • “You've got nothing left to say, huh? The director, Dr. Sutton, will be here soon. I'd love to see how you're going to explain this!”
  • “So, you're the one who reported me?” Elliott raised an eyebrow. “Does Dr. Collier know about this?”
  • At that question, a look of guilt flashed across Howard's face.
  • That expression of his didn't escape Elliott's notice. “Oh, I know. You stole the documents?”
  • “What? I have no idea what you're talking about!”
  • In his guilt, Howard blew up.
  • “Elliott! Stop trying to change the topic here! I'm talking about your lack of a medical qualification certificate now!”
  • “What's the big deal about it. I'll just leave!”
  • Elliott removed his white coat and made to leave.
  • Huh? Shouldn't he fall on his knees with tears streaming down his face and beg not to expose him? Why is it different from what I anticipated?
  • Howard froze in place in surprise.
  • His only shred of sanity left compelled him to stop Elliott. “No! You can't leave!”
  • I haven't seen him get his comeuppance yet, so I can't just let him walk away like this!
  • In the next moment, the door to Elliott's office was pushed open.
  • An elderly man in a white coat walked in, his aura imposing. He was likely the director of the hospital.
  • Upon seeing him, Howard was visibly excited. He stepped forward and reported, “Dr. Sutton, this is Elliott Lozano! He's been acting as the lead doctor without a medical qualification certificate!”
  • Larry Sutton stepped forward and sized up Elliott from head to toe. Hmm, I seem to recall Paul telling me about this young man.
  • Besides, he had already heard about the incident with the girl from the ER department that happened a while back.
