Chapter 4 Good Luck

  • Corvin's eyes brimmed with tears as he hugged Melvin's body and cursed at Elliott, “You little jerk! What are you doing here? Get the hell out of here!”
  • Elliott was standing not too far away, leaning against the wall by the door. He chuckled. “Sure, I can leave. But if I go, Old Mr. Rudowski is done for.”
  • Traditional medicine emphasized the importance of observation. From the moment Elliott laid eyes on Melvin, he had already formed his own judgment.
  • This was a case of hypokalemia.
  • It was essentially a somewhat uncommon ailment in the elderly.
  • The persistent numbness and weakness in both legs would ultimately result in a loss of walking ability. This would subsequently be followed by signs of brain atrophy.
  • Melvin had been lying here for at least a month. The signs of his brain atrophy were evident.
  • If no action was taken, Melvin wouldn't last more than half a month.
  • At that moment, a middle-aged man in a white lab coat emerged from beside the bed, his face adorned with gold-rimmed glasses.
  • “Heh, kid, you sure talk big. What's your background? Which hospital are you from? Which department?”
  • This individual was a doctor invited by the Rudowski family. He was none other than Paul Collier, the head of the traditional medicine department at Hofcaster General Hospital.
  • A village doctor such as Elliott simply couldn't be compared to him.
  • The moment Paul appeared, the Rudowski family members turned toward him, offering him the highest form of respect.
  • There was a flicker in Corvin's eyes as he rushed toward Paul and cried out, “Dr. Collier, you must save my father!”
  • “Yes! Our family can't be without my father!” Gavin mimicked his elder brother's manner perfectly.
  • Wiping away her tears, Thalia pleaded, “Dr. Collier! Please!”
  • Devin stood off to the side, tears glistening in his eyes. “Dr. Collier, if you can save my father, the Rudowski family is willing to give everything we have!”
  • Paul was quite pleased with the attention he was getting. He waved his hand nonchalantly and reassured everyone, “Rest easy, as long as I'm here, nothing will happen to Old Mr. Rudowski.”
  • Paul, a scion of a prestigious lineage, held quite a reputation at Hofcaster General Hospital.
  • Otherwise, the Rudowski family wouldn't have gone to such great lengths to invite him over.
  • Paul extracted several silver needles from an acupuncture kit and began to gauge the area around Melvin's temples.
  • Elliott could instantly tell Paul's intentions.
  • He's trying to stimulate the acupoint to make Old Mr. Rudowski regain consciousness?
  • That's wrong!
  • It will only exacerbate Old Mr. Rudowski's condition.
  • Elliott had no intention of getting involved, but his heart softened when his eyes fell on Theresa, whose eyes were brimming with tears.
  • He cleared his throat, startling everyone present and drawing their gazes to him.
  • With a faint smile playing on his lips, he crossed his arms and said, “Dr. Collier, heed my advice. If you proceed with this, Old Mr. Rudowski's body might not be able to handle it. Can you shoulder this responsibility?”
  • Having been questioned by a youngster, Paul furrowed his brows and fixed an unsatisfied gaze on Elliott. “Who are you? What do you know, kid? I'm the head of the traditional medicine department! What do you possibly understand at your age? Don't disturb me from treating my patient! You can't bear the consequences of the time wasted!”
  • The Rudowski family members all trusted Paul. After all, he was a man of status.
  • Corvin rose to his feet, his expression icy. “Where's the butler? Throw this kid out!”
  • The butler at the door was about to escort Elliott away.
  • “Heh, you guys must have a death wish! Go ahead, let him insert the needle! It's not like it's my grandfather who's dying!”
  • Observing the attitude of this family, Elliott was extremely dissatisfied.
  • Even if it was for the sake of Theresa, he needed to know where to draw the line.
  • Right then, Theresa appeared with a gloomy expression and slapped Elliott.
  • “You! Stop your nonsense! Get out immediately! Our family doesn't need your medical help!”
  • D*mn it!
  • For a fleeting moment, Elliott felt that good deeds didn't always get rewarded.
  • They were the ones who had come to beg for his help, yet they did not show him any respect.
  • Forget it!
  • Elliott had his own sense of pride. He broke free from the bodyguards, straightened his clothes, and stepped out.
  • After he left, the door was closed, with only the Rudowski family members remaining inside.
  • Remembering the marriage arrangement mentioned by Albus, Elliott glanced at the main gate and chuckled. “Well, good luck!”
  • I shouldn't force myself if they wouldn't even let me!
  • How humiliating that would be!
  • Humming a tune, Elliott prepared to leave the Rudowski residence.
  • Inside the room, Paul was making preparations.
  • Corvin gave a cold snort, looking at Devin with dissatisfaction. “Devin, you've certainly raised a fine daughter.”
  • Of course, Devin understood the underlying meaning of his words.
  • Melvin's condition was of great severity, yet Theresa had the audacity to bring in some greenhorn, nearly jeopardizing his treatment.
  • Devin had lost his dignity. He turned to his daughter, who was standing by his side, and reprimanded, “Theresa, you will step down from your position as the general manager of Rudowski Group tonight!”
  • “What!” Theresa looked at Devin in disbelief.
  • Tears streamed down her face, not out of self-pity, but genuine concern for her grandfather. “All right, as long as Grandpa recovers.”
  • Thalia and Pedro exchanged a silent glance, each harboring their own thoughts.
  • A moment later, Melvin's head was covered with silver needles.
  • Sweat trickled down Paul's forehead. “The treatment is complete.”
  • Corvin quickly stepped forward, offering a respectful nod. “Thank you, Dr. Collier. How's my father now?”
  • “He will react soon. Once he does, just follow my prescription.”
  • With anticipation written all over his face, Paul looked at Melvin, eager to present his accomplishments.
  • In the next instant, Melvin abruptly sat up, his eyes wide open.
  • “Dad! Dad! Are you all right?”
  • Corvin quickly stepped forward, nudging Devin to the side.
  • Gavin also went up. “Dad! Dr. Collier is really amazing! He's so much better than the fraud Devin found!”
  • Suddenly, Melvin gripped onto Corvin, exclaiming, “It hurts, it hurts, it hurts! Ahh!”
  • A piercing cry of agony echoed from within the room.
  • The Rudowski brothers were all thrown into a state of panic.
  • “Dr. Collier, what's going on here!” Corvin wanted to shake off his father, but his grip was too strong.
  • Corvin also started to panic.
  • Paul was taken aback, clearly not expecting such a situation.
  • Nevertheless, as a doctor at Hofcaster General Hospital, he had seen and experienced a lot.
  • “Don't panic. This is a normal occurrence in acupuncture.”
  • With a thud, Melvin collapsed rigidly onto the bed. The surrounding medical equipment began to blare with chaotic noises, indicating a sharp decline in his vital signs.
  • “Dad!”
  • Once again, the Rudowski family was plunged into turmoil.
