Chapter 4 Transformation
- SIX YEARS LATER
- On a huge island, in the middle of the ocean, stands a majestic building. Of course, this building belongs to none other than me, Yvonne.
- I sat on the couch in my garden, taking in the fresh morning breeze and sipping some liquor from the glass of wine I was holding with my legs crossed.
- I recalled how I got to the level I am now, and a smile crept onto my lips. At the same time, I felt sad about the sad memories, both the ones I experienced in Moonstone Pack and what I went through fending for myself and my babies while studying at a college. I would go to lectures during the day and use the night to work in a restaurant where I served as a waitress.
- It was not easy for me because I was depriving myself of sleep. I worked till midnight, when there would be no customers, before leaving for my apartment. My boss provided me with an apartment that was beside the restaurant, so I could easily walk home after work without the need to board a cab or trek at midnight.
- It was after I was banished from the pack that I discovered I was pregnant. I recalled the incident that occurred the last day I trained—the dizziness.
- Of course, Conan was responsible for the pregnancy, but he never knew I was pregnant and banished me to be with Sophia. Even I was not aware until my Tommy began swelling up. It was then that I went for a test, and the shocking news was revealed.
- Nonetheless, I was not even pregnant with a baby, but with triplets. However, I had no option but to keep them because I detest abortion and talk more of aborting the first fruits of my womb after several attempts to get pregnant.
- The news, which was supposed to be a joyous thing, turned into a sad one at the moment because I wasn't in a good state to have a baby talk more of babies. This was because I have no good job to take care of them, nor do I have a supporter.
- "Grateful I made it finally," I mumbled inwardly, a smile creeping onto my lips.
- "Mummy!"
- "Mummy!"
- "Mummy!"
- I jolted and glanced back, only to see my three babies running towards me.
- "Gosh, I thought you all were sleeping," I muttered.
- "Mommy I thought we would go shopping today; you promised to take us out this week," Kiara, the first one, remarked.
- "Yes, Mommy, you promised," Liam, the boy among them, uttered. He was a carbon copy of his father.
- "And you promised to buy me ice cream, Mom," Amelia, the last one, added.
- "Yes, I said so, but this week isn't over yet, sweethearts. Mommy keeps her promises, doesn't she?"
- Just as we were discussing, my phone began ringing; however, upon glancing at the screen to know the caller ID, I sighed upon noticing it was the managing director of the hospital I work with.
- "Another medical case. I thought I was off from work this week; what's this call about?" I wondered because Mr. Thomas had never called me during my off days at work.
- I picked up the call and placed the phone on my ear.
- "Hello, good morning," he said from the other end of the call.
- "Good morning, Director," I responded, waiting for him to spill out his request.
- "Doctor Yvonne, please, I'm sorry I'm requesting this from you, but you need to do it for us," he stated.
- "Sir, name the request, and I'll help if I'm able to," I responded.
- "There is a medical case we received just now, and after several thoughts about who could handle it well among the doctors, you came to my mind; your skills are amazing," he stated.
- I gulped down upon hearing that. "I know it would be this," I monologued.
- "Are you there with me?" he questioned as I was silent over his phrase.
- "Of course, sir. I'm still on the line," I replied.
- "Good. So the patient is from Moonstone Pack, and his condition is so critical that he demands he be treated in his palace," he explained.
- My eyebrows arched upon hearing the last word, "Palace". At first, he mentioned the patient was from Moonstone Pack, and now he mentioned he wants to be treated in his palace.
- "I hope it's not what I'm thinking," I mumbled inwardly, letting out a smirk.
- "Alright, sir, I've heard you, but could you tell me the name of the patient?" I requested, trying to make sure he was not who I was thinking, because if it was him, then I was not taking the offer.
- "Actually, his name is Conan, the Alpha of the pack; any problem?" he questioned.
- "Um, sir, I'm sorry, but I don't think I can help in this case," I responded.
- This was the man I had sworn never to encounter in my life any longer because of what he made me go through. Although I know Conan's decision to banish me from the pack was because of Sophia's accusation, but he was the one who gave Sophia space in his life that led to all these.
- "Why, what happened, Doctor Yvonne?" Mr. Thomas questioned. "You were willing to handle this case, then suddenly you changed your mind. What is the problem? Is it about money? Of course, there is a big cash prize waiting for you; the Alpha promised that he's ready to divide his wealth, and whoever could help him out of the condition would take the greater percentage, he's a prominent man and wealthy, don't worry he'll keep to his promise," he explained.
- I giggled slightly. Only if wealth was still my problem now; had it been years ago when I was struggling that I got the offer, I might have taken it without giving it a second thought, but now money means nothing to me anymore; I have enough money.
- "Yvonne, please don't turn this offer down; we need to strike this deal because it would make us go global," Mr. Thomas explained. "If not for anything, do it for me, please," he pleaded.
- I sighed helplessly upon hearing his pleas. I wanted to reject it immediately, but a flashback of how I knew Mr. Thomas flashed through my mind. He was the one behind my growth; Mr. Thomas was the one who helped me secure this job as a doctor in this hospital at the point I had lost hope because of the demands it takes to be a mere cleaner or security personnel of Queens Hospital, talk less of a doctor. You must be from a well-known family to get a job here.
- "Well, sir, I'll accept it," I responded, clenching my lips. I could not turn him down when he needed me the most, moreover, this was the first time he had asked for a favor from me.
- "Thank you very much, Yvonne, I'm...
- "Um, sir. Not to disrespect you, but I'll do the job on one condition," I remarked.
- "Please name what you want," he responded instantly.
- "The Alpha needs to sign an agreement that I and my kids will not encounter any harm or similar issues, and I won't stay in the palace till I'm done with him," I stated, my voice bold enough to let Mr. Thomas know I wasn't joking about it.
