Chapter 8 You Will Encounter A Tragedy
- "Cole, I was unaware of your presence during the earlier conflict. I suppose I no longer require this private room, and you may proceed with your meal. Then, I'll drink this as my penance and my apology to you!" Following that, Mr. Welsh poured himself a glass of wine, raised his glass to everyone, and downed the wine in one gulp. Afterward, he patted Cole's shoulders. "Cole, come over next door later for a drink with the mayor. He's been looking forward to meeting you in person."
- "Sure. I'll drop by later!" Cole nodded, and since Mr. Welsh was pulling strings in his favor, he should accept the offer.
- After Mr. Welsh had left the room, everyone inside the room stared at Cole with varying expressions.
- Is Cole personally acquainted with Mr. Canfield? This brat has a lot of tricks up his sleeve! Lila Thomas was pleasantly surprised when she heard that. Despite feeling oppressed throughout the meal earlier, she was finally able to eat with her head held high.
- "Cole, why didn't you tell us you knew Mr. Canfield?" Henderey Jordan's attitude toward Cole changed for the better, and he walked up to Cole and flattered him while holding his glass of wine. "Tell us how you met him!"
- "When Mr. Canfield's father was in the hospital, he slipped and fell, and I was the one who helped him get back up on his feet!" Nonetheless, Cole decided not to disclose that he was the one who cured Old Mr. Canfield's illness because he believed that the matter was better left unsaid.
- After his explanation, everyone understood how he was connected to the mayor. "It turns out he has aided the mayor's father."
- "I guess fortune does favor fools! If the one who fell wasn't Mr. Canfield's father, he might have been blackmailed with a large sum of money!"
- Then, Lila glared at Cole and spat, "You won't luck out every single time, Cole. The next time you encounter someone falling, don't try to help them. The money Anna earns isn't enough for you to pay the scammers!"
- He nodded and replied, "Got it."
- …
- After the meal, Cole was led by the waiter to Tyler Canfield's private room. As soon as he walked in, he saw Tyler talking to a large man in a suit.
- "Hey, Dr. Stuart. I'm so glad that you took the time to stop by. Please take a seat," Tyler greeted Cole with a smile as soon as he walked into the room.
- Even the waiter who brought Cole into the room was taken aback to see the mighty mayor of Elliswall nodding and bowing to an ordinary man. The waiter would not have believed it if he had not personally witnessed it.
- "Mr. Firby, this is the miracle doctor I told you about. My dad would not be alive today if it weren't for him!" Tyler said to the large man. Then, he turned to Cole and introduced him, saying, "Dr. Stuart, this is my best friend, Eddie Firby. You may address him as Mr. Firby!"
- Cole nodded in acknowledgment and greeted him, "Nice to meet you, Mr. Firby!"
- "Isn't this lad quite young?" Eddie chuckled and nodded at Cole, but he couldn't help but feel disappointed. Despite Tyler's claims that he would introduce me to a miracle doctor who has made significant contributions to traditional medicine, the doctor turns out to be a young man.
- "Mr. Firby, you shouldn't judge him based on his age. In fact, he is extremely talented." Tyler was trying his best to convince Eddie to give Cole a shot.
- "Tyler, you must be getting old. How could you believe a scammer like him? He could heal Old Mr. Canfield because your father is fortunate!" Eddie chuckled and refused to believe that Cole possessed natural talents and practical skills.
- However, Cole didn't seem annoyed as he examined the jade talisman around Eddie's neck. Then, he calmly advised, "Mr. Firby, you should stop wearing that jade talisman around your neck, or you will meet with misfortune in three days!"
- What?! A misfortune?! Eddie's complexion immediately darkened as he countered, "I spent millions on an auction to obtain this jade talisman. How can you claim that it'll bring me misfortune? Your audacity to say that is simply shameful!"
- Moreover, he was even more convinced that Cole was a scammer. "I don't care what kind of method you used to deceive Tyler, you brat, but don't even expect to deceive me as well. Tyler, I'm full. So, I'll get going now," Eddie snorted coldly and prepared to leave. Nevertheless, he would not stick around and give a con artist like Cole the time of day.
- "Mr. Firby, I advise you to discard the jade amulet you are wearing." Cole reminded Eddie before he left.
- "Hmph! I don't need you to worry about me!" Eddie snorted loudly and made a beeline for the door.
- After he left, Tyler looked at Cole in embarrassment. "Look at what happened, Dr. Stuart."
- "Mr. Canfield, if you believe me, please pass this talisman to Mr. Firby. It can keep him safe." Following that, Cole wrote something on a napkin and passed it to Tyler.
- "Alright. I'll keep it for Mr. Firby's safekeeping."
- After exchanging customary greetings with Tyler, Cole returned to the hospital.
- At that moment, an elderly man stood in front of Anna's ward's entrance. It was the famous miracle doctor, Gabriel Howard.
- Then, Gabriel rushed over to greet Cole with a nod and a bow as soon as he spotted him. "You're here, Mr. Stuart!"
- The influential families of Elliswall would undoubtedly gasp if they witnessed that scene. Seeing as how the renowned miracle doctor Gabriel Howard would bow to a young man as if he were his disciple!
- "Please leave. I won't take you in as my disciple!" Cole was aware of the reason why Gabriel showed up at the hospital. Then, he waved his hand to dismiss him and walked toward the ward.
- "Mr. Stuart, I don't expect you to take me in as your disciple. I heard you are searching for the thousand-year-old ginseng, and I know where to find it!"
- Cole's eyes lit up with excitement when he heard that, and he asked hastily, "Where can I find it?"
