Chapter 8

  • LUKA’S POV
  • All I had towards Crystina were good intentions, I didn’t plan on making her cry or sad but when I saw her holding that bottle, something shifted in me that I didn’t like. I tried to control it until we were in a closed space and I could smell that boy all over her. That drove me insane. Why was he giving her a bottle of medicine anyways? She wasn’t even sick. That boy must be trying so hard to make me look bad and I hate that.
  • When I drove out of the school, I had only planned to pick her up and take her home but when I saw her waiting outside of the school gate and checking her wristwatch, I knew something was up. I didn’t plan on killing her friend, Paige by the way, the incident was a mistake.
  • “You should take a shower once you get home to get rid of that stupid scent,” I ordered as I drove us home. I know she was mad at me as she wasn’t even giving me a second glance. She just turned to the window and said nothing the entire ride home.
  • She turned to look at me and my heart broke at the sight of her swollen, tear-filled eyes, reddened nose, and pouting lips.
  • She smelled her cloth and gave me a second questionably look before she looked away out of the window again.
  • “I’m serious, Crystina,” I repeated, I don’t want to get home and still smell that boy all over my house. I would go rabid if that happened.
  • “Okay,” She gently replied without turning to me this time. Every time I opened my mouth to talk to her, I wish I can say something nice, not something that’ll hurt her.
  • “I want you to come to my room after you take that shower. Don’t make me wait for you,” I instructed, stopping the car in front of the driveway so she could get down from the car while I park it in the garage.
  • She was not moving, she was sitting still, her fingers clasped together while her head bowed as if she was reading something on her lap.
  • “Crystina,” I called out, grabbing her attention. Her head whipped up to stare at me and that was when I realized the tears falling down her eyes. At that moment, it was as if a cold bucket of water was thrown at me. My anger dissipated for a minute and I just want to pull her closer and kiss her tears away but I had to use everything inside of me to stop myself from doing that.
  • “Should I get you a carriage for you to get down from my car? We’re home!” I spat. That was when she looked away from me, examined her location, and got down from the car. I also noticed how she fidgeted before getting down from the car. Sometimes, I believe she isn’t scared of me but she’s scared of what I would do.
  • I parked the car in the garage and got down to see my Beta, Baba, waiting for me. Baba was much older than I was, he was in his late thirties. He had been working closely with my father before he died and I appreciated the fact that he fought to take the position of being my Beta because he thought it was the only way he could help me with the task.
  • “What’s going on, Baba?” I asked, strolling towards him in my khaki trouser and leather boots.
  • “Nothing much, Alpha. Just came here to ask if there’s anything I can help with around here,”
  • I shook my head. “Nah, there’s nothing. I’m good. Mary and Rolf kept the place intact for those years. Did you just arrive here?”
  • “No, I actually dropped some files at your office. Just one or two things for you to look into,” He answered reluctantly.
  • I raised an eyebrow, not believing him. “Well, maybe four or five,” He confessed, laughing and I groaned, not ready for another set of paper works.
  • “They aren’t urgent matters, are they?” I asked, hoping that wouldn’t affect the plans I have with Crystina later.
  • ‘No, Alpha. Take your time. If you need me, please let me know, I’ll be glad to be of help,” He said as he began walking away.
  • “Tell your mate I said hi,” He waved without turning to me and I also walked into the house.
  • Thinking that Crystina would already be in my room, I walked into my study first to check the documents that Baba had dropped and true to his words, they were five but hefty documents that needed my attention. When I left the pack, I hadn’t thought about how hard it would be for Baba to manage on his own but now that I’m here and I can see it, I wish I’d never left.
  • I picked up a file and left for my room so as not to keep my mate waiting but much to my disappointment when I got to my room, I realized she wasn’t there. Instead of waiting or going to her, I decided to work on the file that I took from my study room.
  • I was engrossed in work that I didn’t know I’d spent the entire day working and when I finally checked the time, it was almost midnight. I decided to retire for the night and as I was about to get into bed, I remembered that a particular person that I told to see me actually didn’t. Angrily, I barged out of the room, only for me to collide with Crystina at the door. I held her by her arm before she could fall and walked back into the room, still holding her.
  • Trying to not make her hate me more than she has already, I rubbed her arm lightly till she looked up at me, and suddenly without thinking twice, I wrapped my arms around her, hugging her tightly. I buried my nose in the crook of her neck and inhaled her scent. She had taken a shower as I told her to and she smelled so good.
  • She didn’t smell like that stupid kid anymore. I couldn’t bring myself to separate from her because of how good she smelled. I suddenly found myself kissing a particular spot on her neck and seconds later, I’m biting down, kissing, and suddenly yearning for more.
  • She wasn’t fighting it as I heard her soft whimpers in my ears.
  • ‘MARK HER’ Maxim growled, charging to the surface, surprising me. My fangs were already visible, grazing against the skin of her exposed neck.
  • Quickly, I moved away from her, pushing her away as well in the process.
  • “GET OUT!” I yelled. That was the only way I could stop myself from going too far with her.
  • “What?” She asked quietly.
  • “I SAID GET THE HELL OUT OF MY ROOM,”
