Chapter 5

• I saw her walking down the stairs to have breakfast. Her face looked pale this morning. I didn't see her when I came back from work yesterday. I just went to sleep because I was tired.
• She greeted me but I didn't reply. I was almost done eating when she suddenly stood up and vomited outside. What is going on? Wait, is she pregnant?
• She looked So pale and the only conclusion I could arrive at was she was pregnant judging how she blushed when Rose asked about her crush. Kids are not to be trusted these days. There is no way I'm fathering a bastard! This was their plan all along? Without thinking I walked up to her and asked her to get into the car, to my surprise, she ignored me and tried to leave. The second time I raised my voice, she yielded. I could see my workers looking at the drama happening and Sheila was trying to stop me, so I threatened to fire her. She's making me lose my cool in front of my staff. This is the first time I'm showing this side to them.
• The thoughts of another person's child in my wife's belly was what was on my mind. The more I think about it, the more it makes me furious. I muttered something to myself and didn't care if she heard or not.
• I called Ben to tell him I was coming. He told me he was busy and I told him it was an emergency. Ben and I are friends and he's in charge of treating me whenever I'm sick. He's the Williams Family doctor.
• I drove to his hospital and quickly rushed down to get her out of the car. I opened the door for her because she really looked weak. Ben was already waiting for us when we entered. He didn't ask questions and just asked Sophie to follow him to run some tests. I waited for a few minutes before they came out. He asked us to wait for a few minutes in his office before he came back. We both sat down on the chair available in his office. I could see she was really in pain, she held her stomach and rested her head on the table. I didn't care whether she was in pain or not. I just wanted to know whether she was pregnant or not. Ben came back a few minutes later and properly greeted us this time. I was so impatient that I asked him to go straight to the point.
• " Hi Sophie, how are you feeling"
• "Good," she replied amidst the pain.
• Ben asked me whether she was the one. I said yes, because he knew about my marriage though he didn't attend.
• He smiled and looked at her again, "how long have you been having this pain?"
• "Since yesterday" she replied
• "I assume it's not your first time, it has also been like this every month right?"
• "Yes," she replied.
• I was confused about what was going on and suddenly asked what I really wanted to know.
• "She's pregnant right? How many months? I'm not going to father a bastard! " I asked impatiently
• Ben looked surprised and shocked at my questions. He knew from my face, I wasn't asking because I'm the father even though it was true, but I'm trying to know from another angle which he understood better.
• Sophie suddenly stood up and asked for the bathroom, Ben directed her to his own personal bathroom in his office. I could see a light red blood stain at the back of her dress. I wanted to call her attention to it but Ben told me to keep quiet.
• After she left, Ben faced me and called me a fool.
• " You're a fool, man. She isn't pregnant!. It's menstrual cramps. Why would you throw accusations like that? I knew what you were implying earlier, even if she was pregnant, she's your wife and you'd be the father!" He said
• I became speechless. I couldn't say anything. "Menstrual cramps?" What have I done? This was what Sheila was trying to explain earlier……
• I was still thinking about what I had done before Ben realized something…..
• "Wait, don't tell me you've not touched her since you married" he asked with curiosity.
• "No. Why would I touch her, she's young and she isn't my type.
• I've never seen her as a woman talkless MY WOMAN" I replied
• "But, she is your wife" he said
• "So what? She's only carrying Mrs Williams, and this happened out of respect for grandma. She can never be my woman" I said
• Ben was shocked at my reply and I saw him look somewhere else, it was then I saw her pale face staring at me. She heard everything? It's better, she'd know her place and act accordingly.
• I looked away and faced Ben. He gave me medicine for her to take Everytime she experiences something like that.
• As we were about to leave he whispered something to me
• " Give her your Jacket, her dress is stained"
• I removed my jacket and tried to put it on her, but she gave me a cold look and tried to leave. I held her back and her reaction shocked me.
• "Don't touch me! We both agreed on not touching each other!" She said with every strength left in her body.
• She was about to leave when Ben told her about the stain on her dress before she realized. She saw Ben's coat where he hung it and requested for it with a promise to return it back.
• The look I gave Ben, he politely said no and asked her to use mine. I don't know what changed her mind that minute, she agreed to even help put it on for her. We both left the hospital together. I drove her back home, we both didn't say anything all through the journey. When we arrived home, I saw Sheila waiting for us. Sophie came down from the car and went inside immediately. I only called Sheila to inform her on her health and how she's going to take her medicine. I informed her about the light food the doctor said she could eat without vomiting them. After I gave her the instructions, I left for work immediately.
