- Only then did Silas suddenly realize what he had said and waved his hands in denial. "No, that's not true. Our daughter couldn't possibly have been adopted. You must have misheard me. What I meant was when my wife gave birth to Isabelle, I never thought she might not like our daughter. I'm not very capable and always busy with work, so I had to work outside all the time and couldn't take care of Isabelle, causing her to suffer a lot when she was young."
- Silas denied it with a natural expression and showed no signs of panic or evasiveness, and his calm demeanor almost made Stefan doubt if he had heard things correctly. He awkwardly chuckled and refilled Silas' glass. "My hearing isn't what it used to be. I thought you said you found Isabelle and brought her home."
- "That's impossible. I must have misspoken. Drinking so early in the morning makes me less articulate, I guess." Silas chuckled, trying to steer the conversation away.
