Chapter 6 Preparing For The Party

  • CHAPTER 6
  • Preparing For The Party
  • Narrated by Alyson
  • Emptiness occupies a large space
  • I wake up and see the first rays of sunlight appearing outside.
  • I try to situate myself trying to figure out where I am, until everything that happened yesterday comes to mind.
  • I sigh disappointedly, at my fucking luck.
  • I'm sure I fell asleep on the floor yesterday, so I don't understand why I'm lying in bed.
  • I look around me, but I see no trace of him or anyone else.
  • I get up, grab a dress and my underwear, go into the bathroom and lock the door, just in case someone has absurd ideas.
  • I take a long shower, I really needed one.
  • I get dressed and leave the bathroom, I'm so distracted looking at my feet that I don't even see him and I bump into him.
  • I look at him and he looks at me seriously.
  • - Good morning and sorry, I was distracted. - I apologize quickly, embarrassed and clumsy.
  • - Good morning Alyson, how did you spend your evening? - he asks walking to the closet, reaches over and pulls out a green colored tie.
  • - Fine, I guess. - I remember that I fell asleep on the floor and woke up in bed and decide to ask - Did you put me to bed?
  • He just turns his face to me as he knots his tie.
  • - I believe you were going to wake up today with body aches, the floor was not made for sleeping, Alyson. - And another thing, stop being so formal to me, we are going to live together for a year, I prefer you to call me you, is that okay?
  • - Yes, that's fine. - I speak only in a half voice.
  • - Will you have breakfast with me? - he asks.
  • - Of course I will.
  • We go downstairs, and the breakfast table is already set, with everything you're entitled to.
  • - Are we just going to eat? - I ask, sitting down and amazed at such abundance for only two people.
  • - Yes, just us. - he says, sitting down too, stretching a linen napkin on his lap.
  • We start to eat.
  • - Um, that's right, today I have a business dinner and I want you to join me, ask Soledad to show you the closet of dresses for these occasions.
  • - That's fine.
  • I have no desire to go anywhere, but what can I do? He practically owns me, he bought me, I have to obey him, and I also only have a one-year term.
  • What a sad life I lead.
  • He leaves, saying goodbye with a "see you later" and I'm left at the table alone.
  • Well, it could be worse, so far no one has treated me badly, he hasn't forced me to do anything and I can walk freely around the house.
  • Yeah, I'm not bad.
  • I was much worse off at my arrogant father's house.
  • I get up from the chair and start to gather the dishes from the table.
  • - Miss, what are you doing? - Soledad asks as she rushes into the breakfast room.
  • I immediately stop what I am doing.
  • - I'm sorry, I just wanted to help. - I apologize immediately, I don't want to upset anyone.
  • She stops near me, puts her hands on her waist and says playfully.
  • - Here at home you don't have to do anything, we have enough maids who know what they have to do, even I don't lift the table. - she laughs, as she says this - Come on, Rosita already takes care of that, it's her job, to set and clear the tables for meals. Now let's go, I think we have a dress to choose from. - she winks at me.
  • Soledad is a lady already close to 50 years old, she tells me that she has worked for the Macwire family for many years and has known the boy Kevin, as she calls him, since forever, but she doesn't elaborate much more.
  • I don't ask either, I realize she is instructed not to tell too much, there must be some kind of frill in the family.
  • But I don't care either, I am not and never will be family anyway.
  • I'm just passing through.
  • The room where Soledad takes me is right after mine, well, it's not exactly a room, it's a huge closet where there are only party clothes, shoes, sandals, handbags, there's also a complete bathroom and a space with a mirror and lights, with a table and everything a woman needs to put on makeup and get ready.
  • Soledad shows me that under the table there are three drawers, where the jewelry is.
  • There are necklaces, chokers, rings, bracelets, in short, a real treat for anyone who likes jewelry.
  • I just hope nothing is here that was bought from my odious father.
  • - Soledad, who did all this belong to? - I ask curiously.
  • - This was all bought and delivered yesterday evening.
  • I am amazed.
  • - This was all bought for me?
  • - Yes Miss Alyson, that's what the boy Kevin said.
  • - But all this? What's all this for?
  • - The boy usually goes to a lot of charity dinners, parties of all kinds, dinner parties, possibly that's why. - she pauses - But you already know that, don't you? She's his girlfriend.
  • She turns to her shoes.
  • I get a blank face, whatever a blank face is!
  • Girlfriend?
  • What did he say about me anyway? About the two of us?
  • With my thoughts very confused, I end up choosing a salmon-colored dress, with a slit up my left leg to a little above the knee, from the waist up all embroidered with sparkles with an exquisite boat neckline.
  • I have on shoes the same color as the dress, but a little darker to make it stand out, high heels, and the purse matches the shoes.
  • Soledad admires me with a smile on her face.
  • - You are going to be even more beautiful than you already are.
  • She compliments me happily.
  • I smile at her.
  • The rest of the day was spent without much emotion, and so the night came quickly.
  • He enters the huge closet, which I nicknamed "Closet of Shine" kkk, that's what it looks like, it's very wonderful and exquisite, and stops at the door with his gaze fixed on me.
  • Through the reflection of the mirror I ask.
  • - Am I well dressed for the occasion?
  • He shakes his head slightly seeming to come out of a trance.
  • - You look beautiful, Alyson. - he speaks in a slightly husky voice.
  • It makes my insides shudder, the look in his eyes and his voice.
  • What the fuck is wrong with me?
  • I try to disguise my nervousness, I think successfully, because he seems nervous too.
  • He walks in, picks out his suit, his shoes, and all his accessories.
  • - I'll leave you to get ready at ease, go to the bedroom and get ready there.
  • And he leaves, without even giving me time to say anything.
