Chapter 6 Provocation

  • If Loraine and Lilia dared to utter another word, Darcy couldn't guarantee that she wouldn't lose her temper.
  • At that moment, Tyler finished eating and quietly began to clean up his tableware.
  • “Put them down. Is this your job? Go back to your room and do your homework.” Loraine could never bear to let her son do such chores. It was always Darcy who was tasked with the household duties.
  • Every day, Darcy worked herself to the bone, her large appetite a testament to her exertions.
  • Ignoring Loraine, Tyler went to wash the dishes.
  • Lilia frowned, slightly annoyed yet too indifferent to reprimand her brooding younger brother. She got up and retreated to her own room, oblivious to the storm she had narrowly escaped.
  • Loraine glared at Darcy before heading to the kitchen to usher her son back to his room. Then, she took it upon herself to wash the dishes.
  • Having slept for an entire day, Darcy felt somewhat rejuvenated, both physically and mentally. She ventured out to the courtyard to inspect the place where this family lived.
  • The old house was situated on the outskirts of the pack. It was a place that others in the pack had discarded, deemed unfit for living. Despite its worn-out condition, it was spacious enough, complete with a courtyard, a fence, and a separate kitchen.
  • An olive tree was planted in the courtyard.
  • Several houses were initially inhabited by a large family. Later, as Sherman's brothers worked hard and elevated their status within the pack, they moved to reside in a more central location, leaving only them behind.
  • Tyler emerged from the kitchen, casting a glance toward Darcy in the courtyard. Their eyes met for a moment before he limped back to his room on one foot.
  • Darcy looked at his retreating figure, then followed him.
  • With a furrowed brow, Tyler sat at his desk, pondering over the challenging math problem he had copied from the internet the day before.
  • Suddenly, he sensed something and looked up. There, without him knowing when she had arrived, was Darcy. She was leaning against the doorframe of his room, her arms folded across her chest.
  • Her hefty figure completely blocked the doorway to his room.
  • This was the first time Darcy had entered his room. In the past, regardless of day or night, she would have retreated to her own room as soon as she returned from school, only emerging to do household chores.
  • Tyler noticed that his sister was a bit different that day.
  • Darcy walked over, glancing down at Tyler's notebook. Raising an eyebrow, she asked, “You don't know?”
  • Tyler looked at her, speechless.
  • Darcy took the pen from his hand, and without needing a moment to think, she began to write swiftly in his notebook.
  • By the time Tyler reacted, the notebook was already filled with a plethora of notes, and the exceedingly difficult problem had been solved flawlessly.
  • The steps were clear and precise.
  • Upon reading it, Tyler had a sudden moment of enlightenment as if a fog had lifted from his mind. He was so thrilled that his face turned a little red.
  • After the surprise, he looked at Darcy with disbelief in his eyes. “How do you know the solution?”
  • This was the first thing her younger brother ever said to her.
  • “Isn't this a no-brainer as long as you have hands?” Darcy responded sincerely.
  • Tyler said, “I copied this university question from the internet.”
  • This year, Tyler was in his second year of high school, a grade below Darcy and Lilia.
  • “And?”
  • Tyler stared suspiciously at Darcy, who was behaving unusually. “Usually, you can't even pass your exams. You often turn in blank papers for your math tests. You can't even correctly answer all the questions from a middle school math test.”
  • Given his sister's intelligence, there was no way she could have pulled it off.
  • Having inherited the original host's memories, Bloodshade was acutely aware of just how foolish the original host had been.
  • Without a second thought, Darcy scoffed, “Me sitting in the exam hall was merely a courtesy to them. These kinds of questions are nothing more than a complete waste of time and ink.”
  • In disbelief, Tyler asked, “Have you been pretending all along?”
  • Darcy neither confirmed nor denied it.
  • “Solve this question too.” Unconvinced, Tyler presented Darcy with yet another challenging question to tackle.
  • Upon scanning the question, Darcy fell silent and remained unmoving.
  • Tyler couldn't help but smirk, wondering if she had somehow seen his notebook and then looked up the answer online.
  • She really has nothing better to do.
  • But it's surprising that she could remember such a complex series of problem-solving steps.
  • Just as Tyler was about to suggest she return to her own room because he needed to do his homework, he heard Darcy speak up. “The equation for the given surface area is z equals x squared plus y squared.”
  • “What?”
  • “The answer.”
  • Tyler was taken aback for a couple of seconds. He then skeptically searched for the answer online. When he saw the answer was identical to what Darcy had said, he was stunned. After looking at the problem-solving steps that filled two and a half pages, Tyler looked at his eldest sister, who had been called a fool by his mother and second sister for over a decade, as if he were looking at a monster.
  • I can't believe she solved the question in her mind...
  • What kind of genius-level intelligence is this? With such talent, she's bound to evolve into a Beta in the future, right?
