Chapter 5 I Will Settle This Score

  • As Darcy opened her eyes, she saw Lilia Quivers standing at the foot of the bed, glaring at her with a look of disgust and disdain.
  • “What are you staring at? If you're awake, hurry up and eat. Do you really need someone to call you for a meal? Even a disabled person is more useful than you.” After finishing her words, Lilia turned and left, unwilling to stay another second in her room.
  • In both appearance and temperament, she was truly a carbon copy of Loraine.
  • Darcy sat up, feeling that this entire family was somewhat peculiar, especially her so-called younger sister, Lilia.
  • Darcy, who inherited the original host's memories, was well aware of how much the original host had been bullied by this beloved sister.
  • Despite her young age, she had quite a wicked heart. Truly, she was in dire need of a lesson.
  • Darcy emerged from the room.
  • “Darcy, come and eat,” Sherman called out as he prepared her tableware.
  • The living room, completely visible at a glance, was starkly bare, not a single valuable item in sight. A dusty light bulb emitted a faint glow.
  • In a family of five, she was relegated to a corner spot at their small, worm-eaten square table.
  • Tyler was quietly eating, his head bowed. When Darcy arrived, he silently shifted his chair to the side, making more room for the plump Darcy. He then seated himself at the edge of the table.
  • “Feeling better after some sleep, aren't you? Eat up,” Sherman said as he added some meat to her plate, his voice tinged with embarrassment. “We're not well-off. We can't afford to keep you in the hospital for a few more days. Rest well at home, then you can go back to school. I'll buy you some beef to eat tomorrow.”
  • “With her abysmal grades, it doesn't make a difference whether she goes to school or not. I bet the teachers would prefer if she didn't even show up,” Lilia sneered.
  • “Lilia! Darcy is your elder sister. How could you speak like that?” Sherman reprimanded her.
  • “Why are you so angry? Did Lilia say something wrong? I really don't know what goes on in her head. She can somehow manage to score five or ten points on her tests. It's utterly embarrassing.” Loraine grew increasingly frustrated as she spoke.
  • Having scolded Darcy wasn't enough, she then turned her fury toward Sherman. “Do you have any idea how your relatives ridicule me? How could I have ended up with a mate as useless as you? Back in the day, your brothers were just ordinary wolves, but now they've all found their place in the pack, contributing and earning the Alpha's recognition! And you, you can't even provide the basics without relying on your brothers' leftovers. If you had put in a bit more effort, your son wouldn't be limping. I should've rejected you as a mate from the beginning to save myself from suffering with you now!”
  • Faced with his wife's complaints, Sherman kept his head down in silence, merely clutching his wine glass. His face, which had aged significantly more than his peers due to overwork, flushed with embarrassment.
  • As Tyler calmly continued eating, he seemed unfazed by the current situation as if he had long become numb to it. However, upon hearing about the limping, he involuntarily tightened his grip on his fork.
  • “You're really something else, you know that? Our parents are arguing because of you and all you care about is watching TV. You're utterly hopeless. How on earth did I end up with a sister like you?” Lilia glared at Darcy, fanning the flames without a care for the consequences.
  • As expected, her actions prompted Loraine to look daggers at Darcy.
  • However, Darcy simply shifted her gaze from the television with an expressionless face and then turned her attention to Lilia.
  • Her gaze was as cold as ice.
  • “What's with that look? Did I say something wrong?” Lilia felt that something was off with Darcy after she returned from the hospital. In the past, she would have kept her head down, her neck retracted, too scared to even eat. She wouldn't have dared to look back at her with such a gaze.
  • This gaze was as intense as that of a powerful wolf. Without even noticing, Lilia avoided this gaze.
  • “You little brat, how dare you glare at your sister like that? Hurry up, finish your meal, and wash the dishes. You're really getting on my nerves.” After scolding Darcy, Loraine began eating.
  • Darcy glanced over at Loraine, not intending to pick a fight with them at this moment.
  • She returned her attention back to the television.
  • The television was quite old, having been used for an unknown number of years. Its model was one that had long since been discontinued.
  • Just then, the news broadcast reported a massive explosion on an island in the Southern Ocean.
  • A glint of cold light flashed in Darcy's eyes.
  • Shadow Pack, I, Bloodshade, will settle this score sooner or later!
  • Darcy put down her fork, stood up, and prepared to return to her room.
  • “Hmm, you're eating so little today? Don't you usually have to have three servings to be satisfied?” Lilia glanced at Darcy's plate, teasing her.
  • “Wash the dishes before going back to your room,” Loraine ordered.
  • Sherman said gruffly, “Darcy took such a hard fall just yesterday. She can't possibly do the dishes. Lilia, Tyler, you guys do it.”
  • Lilia muttered under her breath, “I don't know how. She fell and hit her head, not her hand. She usually does the dishes.”
  • “Just let her do the dishes! She's so plump. Maybe moving around a bit could help her slim down and become healthier!” Loraine said, clearly annoyed.
  • Darcy stood at the entrance of the living room, glancing back at Loraine, her eyes slightly narrowed as if she was holding something back.
  • These ordinary wolves have no idea about the repercussions of provoking a bloodthirsty warrior!
